  1. And the stadium is somewhere between those two times from the campus.
  2. Fouts was only about 70 when it was torn down. It was built in 1952 and it would have taken a fortune to correct its wrongs. As 90 grad said the water table made the student side virtually impossible to fix. A good rain almost inundated the field one year against Mississippi State. The press box was too small for most high schools. With the shortage of parking, it's serving its best function.
  3. You're probably right, Jim. Two of my favorite players were Doak Walker and Dandy Don Meredith. I became a Methodist when I married Jessica 66 years ago and attended regularly until her stroke and my two broken hips. Several of my best friends are SMU graduates and I have a weekly breakfast with them. My oldest daughter will retire from SMU next year. She was a pharmacist. So I've had a lot of reasons to think kindly of SMU. Even the death penalty didn't disturb me terribly because I know A&M, Texas and others were just as guilty...they just didn't get caught (intentionally). SMU treated us half-way decent until the last few years. It used to be just the students but now I don't see their administration supporting us in any way. I just had to get some of it out of my system. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!
  4. San Diego is the 30th largest media market in the United States. They usually have quality teams. They want out of the Mountain West. I don't think so. SMU would report that as 35,000.
  5. By the way, I just recounted Cooke County Kid's total and I came up with 18, not 20. We have 14 teams now. SMU is leaving and let's say they are replaced by Air Force (OR Colorado State). That still leaves 14. Add Oregon State and Washington State=16. Then (or before) add Boise State and San Diego State and you have 18. Those additions would make five teams in the West Division. That means that us, UTSA, Rice and Tulsa would be in the West Division. Increases our travel cost but would likely increase the payout enough to more than pay for travel.
  6. Neither do I but they do have some teams that I would like in the AAC.
  7. It does look that way but I imagine that there will be variations in the formations and coverage to cover the runs. Just changing angles and maybe linebackers will do some rushing. They'll get away with a few but I believe that most runs will be covered. If it was vulnerable to the run often, it wouldn't have been successful for Iowa State.
  8. The band went to Ford the last time we played there and I'd imagine that they will again.
  9. Maybe, it's because their payout is half ours.
  10. I believe that only Mike Aresco can answer that with certainty. As I suggested above, all other sports but football could be played at closer locations and have tournaments and meets to determine conference champions. It could be structured to include basketball as well but that's a conference decision. My preference (which carries exactly no weight at all) would be to play every conference member, half at home, the other half away. Those with the worst record might be eliminated but the remainder would be seeded according to their record then play until the champion is determined.
  11. For now, I don't believe there is a penalty. The big $34M exit fee expires in 2024. No fee has yet been determined for 2025. I don't know this for certain but it seems that the three teams that we want most are SDSU, Boise State and Air Force. We would also want Oregon State and Washington State. Those, with the thirteen* existing members would give us an eighteen team conference. *SMU should be in the ACC soon. This should be ok for the major sports. For the minor sports, I'd suggest playing nearby college teams (including conference) and then having a conference tournament to determine the championship. I was trying to think if that would work and I believe that only football might have a problem with it. That was to be expected. Those would be the conference's problems. It would keep the name of the American Athletic Conference strong.
  12. The 6'8"player is not a walk-on. He is a scholarship player from Humble. The big 400 pounder committed after his senior year of high school when (I believe) he only had interest from one or two MAC teams. He really moves for a big man. They're hard to find so you snap them up when you can. He had enough confidence in himself that he believed that he would get a scholarship after a walk-on year. I believe that he will. He's that good. Another lineman that big and that good doesn't come along very often.
  13. You're right that stats do not always tell the real story but I think more often than not they do tell the story. It could be the coaching and when he gets to the next level they can eliminate bad habits. It could be that the receivers can't clear the defensive backs but in those situations he should intentionally overthrow or try to run the ball.
  14. He is nowhere near as disabled as the picture suggests. He did wear a boot for six months or so but he should have rehabbed long ago. That was when he was at Memphis. When he graduated from high school he was among the best in the history of Texas quarterbacks. I realize that a good quarterback coach wouldn't guarantee success but with good physical therapy and feet routine, he should have been much better. He didn't seem to have the same throwing motion as he had at Memphis; let alone Arizona. If he can now hit a dime, something improved him after he left here.
  15. Although he didn't have a quarterback coach to help him here I'm glad that he is improving at Sam Houston. I wish him nothing but success (since we don't play them this year).
  16. Mosley has said that he wants $20M before he starts construction. I assume that he has pledges totalling that amount and will start construction around the spring semester.
  17. We will only have 13 members when SMU leaves so we can have five and then be all in. I think that 18 is as far as you need to go in order to play everyone within a few years' time. I believe that I would go after those four and UNLV as the fifth. Las Vegas is a fun destination and a large market. Once that happens, have everyone sign a GOR. We might consider Oregon State and Wazzu instead of Air Force and Colorado State. Decisions. I'd leave that up to Mike Aresco. We'd need to act fast before the MWC has member sign a GOR. If I understand correctly, they could leave and lose $4M dollars for the rest of their contract but possibly pickup $8-10M from the AAC. They would still come out $4-6 million ahead. More, after the MWC contract expires. I don't really want to go to 20 teams but we could take all of the above (or try).
  18. There is a charge for printing tickets. I believe that it is $5 per seat. I had my three season tickets printed for a cost of $15. The parking pass is encoded and hold it where the parking attendant can scan it. Hang it on your rear view mirror first so that the cop can direct you to the proper parking lot. There is no charge for the six parking passes.
  19. Here's what I believe to be the deal. The Pac 12 received a large amount of money for the TV deal that they had last year which remains undistributed. The money came from last year's TV revenue. It has remained undistributed because so many teams have left the PAC12. The question is Who gets the revenue? It was paid to the conference and not to the individual teams. The four remaining teams are all that's left of the PAC12...the other eight have resigned. The 17.5 million could be Oregon State's legitimate share of 2022 TV revenue but there needs to be a decision on how the revenue is shared. They have no commissioner and only four members that have not resigned. I tend to believe that they will get the 17.5 million as their share because they are still a member of what's left of the PAC12. I believe that the total amount for the PAC12 was $280M but how was it to be distributed? It likely could be distributed to the remaining members because the check is made out to the conference; not to the individual members. The PAC needs to get this resolved right away. Note: This is my understanding and may or may not be correct. If you have any additions or corrections, please post.
  20. I totally agree with what you said. But...if Florida State leaves alone, I'm not sure that the Big 10 cares unless Clemson leaves with them.
  21. IF this is true, I have a couple of comments. My first comment is...Why are we paying the MWC exit fees? If the league doesn't start until 2025 there shouldn't be any exit fees. As I understand it, even if the MWC votes to have exit fees in 2025 it shouldn't apply to those who have given a one year's notice. My second is...who is going to pay us for the thousands spent advertising our new logo? Probably all of the five other new members have done the same. I think the PAC 4 can afford to reimburse us since they now receive millions because they kept the PAC name going. Also, the PAC members will receive a larger share amount while our share will be reduced. I'll believe this will happen when I actually see it. If it doesn't happen, I'd welcome Cal, Oregon State and Washington State to the American Conference and the MWC members as well.
  22. Stanford...YES! I'm still not sure about Cal. They're playing us, aren't they? If we could get Cal, Oregon State and Washington State in the American Conference and eventually add San Diego State and Boise State, we would have a much better conference than we have now. Oh yes, and Air Force as well. Maybe SMU would stay with those additions. If they won't; it's been nice. That might induce South Florida to stay as well. Yes, I know that most might say "Good Riddance" but having SMU in the conference does make the AAC stronger. We would be the next closest team for the west but if they don't want us in the same division, we could go east and have UTSA, Rice or Tulsa as the eighth and/or ninth member of the West Division. I doubt that SMU will get an offer from the ACC.
