  1. Of course, this thread may have the same effect of a minister whose sermon is strongly focussed on tithing, giving to missions and/or to the church building program. All that being said from the pulpit while many of his/her parishioners are squirming about in their pews! Anyone? What is the smallest Mean Green Club donor level as some on this message board have young families, bills (like we all have) and other finanicial obligations? I would think there is a donor level for any NT family's budget. Don't know about the rest of yall, but I am duly impress with our NO's Bowl opponent of 2 years ago (U of Memphis) closing in on $5 million for their own version of the Mean Green Club, ie, the Tiger Club or now what they call, the Tiger Scholarship Fund.
  2. Great find, Baby Arm... Thinking further outside the box, if you can include the use of such an indoor facility for the general students, then you have a facility the state of Texas can help fund (unless that has changed lately). "Multi-use" indoor facility are the 2 key words in all this to get state funding since students would use it part of the time, too. This facility can always be made available for the prime usage of the Mean Green football team for 2-a-days in August when there are no students on campus and its hotter than all hades and be scheduled for our football team's use when we have inclement weather in Denton. I don't think that facility in the link looks all that bad, either. I guess the soccer teams could use this as well as even volleyball teams? Who else colud use it and how much we talking about? Again, great find, Baby Arm.
  3. OK enough, now you are grasping for straws and showing your ignorance concerning our football team. La Tech is no Southern Miss and last November the #4 ranked Cal Bears almost had as much as they themselves could handle with the Golden Eagles because USM almost beat them on national TV. But our offensive line you are obviously no expert on it as well. FWIW, our Mean Green offensive line will "only" be anchored by recent Outland Trophy nominee Dylan Lineberry who is probably another NT player who will be playing on Sundays once he finishes his career at NT. I'm outta here on that one. You need to be posting more inciteful & researched material, because as you know, this is a college smack board that requires that all posts be inciteful.
  4. BTW, the year (2003) we clobbered Baylor at our campus stadium was the same year the Bears beat the Texas A & M Aggies. You think TAMU is headed to NCAA D1-AA, too? La Tech is a legend in their own minds. NT will beat them by 3 (maybe) 4 touchdowns this October because they will not have ever had a team visit Ruston with 2 RB's as good as what the University of North Texas Mean Green will be bringing to their J.A. Stadium AND their smarter (more realistic) posters on BB & B's know this. NOTE: One of those 2 NT running backs ran for about 260 yards against a Big 12 school ranked as the #4 ranked rushing defense before we played them. Now you think La Tech is going to answer NORTH TEXAS with as good a defense as Colorados? If so, I've got some ocean front property out here 15 miles west of Fort Worth I want to talk to you about.
  5. Sure, it's going to be NCAA I-AA for NT, that is why we are putting together a 200 acre olympic-style village called Mean Green Athletic Village with already $40 million worth of facilities complete. A 12-13 court varsity tennis complex that will probably rank in the NCAA's Top 25 on-campus facilities is now under construction at the MG Athletic Village, too. NT's campus fathers (and TxDOT who has decreed to NT that it needs some interstate frontage land next to our present football stadium) say they want to build a new football stadium at this Mean Green Athletic Village; a stadium that will probably seat around 35-40,000 just like you'd see at any NCAA D1-AA school. Yeppers! It's all the way to 1-AA for NT where all this construction and growth would be just the kind of criteria and action you'd expect to see at any 1-AA football school locale. NOT......................
  6. Anyone know what the different donor levels of the Mean Green Club are? ADDENDUM: The University of Memphis (a NO's Bowl foe of NT's 2 years ago) and their Tiger Scholarshp Fund (formerly the Tiger Club) is closing in on $5,000,000 raised for their school's athletic department. Wonder what Souther Miss is raising this year?
  7. Bill, you didn't see em' pulling me back in from off the top of the Press Box last year after Coach Howie' put one on us?!?!? And you didn't see SUMG up there saying: "LET HIM JUMP (his polls are killing me)!"{:>) When FAU beat UHawaii in Honolulu the week before they played us I then began to think we might have some problems with Howard Schnellenberger's team--even in Denton. I think we received some very nice credibility during the Brandon Kennedy/Cody Spencer era, but we do seem to be slipping and the rout at UT-Austin last year seemed to be the very thing that made us very prone to more media opinions and questions. I think the media-types may have thought that any team that had gone to 3 bowl games in a row should have played the Texas Longhorns a little closer--but that was yesterday and yesterday's gone. NT better get used to it, but more SBC'ers are wondering where are our Missouri wins and near-wins at LSU. I still prefer winning over schools that pull off those upsets as to get bowl-worthy, but our time has come to pull off at least one of the Big Boy OOC wins sometimes. BUT...........I don't think any of us want a Big Boy win at the expense of watching the rest on the season sink into oblivion such as La Tech has seen their seasons do most any year they had a Big Win. I mean why beat the Jolley Green Giant at the beginning of a football season if you fool around and let one of the Wizard of Oz's munschkins kick your arse later on? This upcoming NT football team intrigues many of us to say the least inasmuch as we don't really know what to expect, but (personally) I expect more positive than negative from this 2005 Mean Green football team. And whether Byerly makes his grades or not, I think we are still going to be just fine at QB. We have a coaching staff who can effectively work with young quarterbacks as to get them to function with the team around them no matter their experience and we all know who we can point to as a prime example of that. (How about a frosh' Mean Green QB who was at the helm for our school's first ever bowl win in the modern era of NCAA football)? I think we should all not forget in these discussions as to what we do have rather than what we don't.
  8. So as an outsider I'd just say give him more time....Every school has its own unique problems. He probably didn't inherit much when he arrived in Jonesboro, just like Coach Dickey didn't at NT (to a great extent, especially in the football facilities department). Do yall have any more football-related facilities on the drawing boards such as new indoor practice facility, athletic centers, ASU Hall of Fame facilities, etc, etc, etc? Maybe yall already have some of the aforementioned. Can you link some photos of your football-related facilties?
  9. Emmitt, I might jump off the top of the Fouts Field press box right into running traffic on Interstate 35 if we lost to Tulsa and La Tech this Fall. Those 2 losses would set this program back tremendously until Coach Dickey and staff had another 7-8 Texas state top 100 recruiting classs with a few Fab 40 recruits from the state of Oklahoma. This Fall, I think NT is reloading with some good football players that will be suffice for our non BCS competition; don't know how they will stack up against Top 25 schools until we play a few. Until we get what will be the recruiting percs of a new football stadium, I still don't think we get competitive with the Top 25 group on a regular basis. Against Top 25 schools, I am talking about an NT football program (once in our new stadium) that just doesn't get the moral victories OR the occasional one hit wonder type upsets like La Tech and Troy U seem to get from time to time; athough that would be a nice gift to all of us every once in a while. Yet those 2 schools don't ever seem to capitalize on such Big Time victories the years they've had them because they later lose to schools they shouldn't lose to and in the case of La Tech, have even finished under .500 in the seasons they've had such wins. ** Tough question to answer except all I know is that I don't won't us to take no prisoners at MUTSville on September 10'th. I am not ready to concede anything to the Blue Raiders until they show what they can do on the football field. The "Rada's" and the SBC recruiting gurus (who obviously have never seen any Texas HS football) have beaten us just about every year on paper since the creation of the football portion of the 'Belt, now haven't they?
  10. Many of us here in the Metroplex (especially those who call themselves Horned Frogs) will not forget how he brought his NCAA 1-AA Northwestern St (La) and beat a pretty good TCU football team the year before he took the ASU job. So........... ............I don't know why some of that kind of coaching and recruiting didn't transfer (to some extent) to Jonesboro. It took Darrell Dickey 5 years to get our football program above .500 in wins, so isn't this Coach Roberts 5'th year at ASU?
  11. You got it--that's the place, HoustonEagle, AND good memories for you, too, eh? I had completely forgotten about each table having a mini-juke-box, though. Heck! I wonder if they had "Fraulein" as one of the selections? BTW, is Houston country station KICK-AM still in business? I wonder just what year Tom & Joe's Cafe did close? greenjoe, you have any idea? NOTE: Surprised that Ponder's famous Ranchmen Steak House has not received more keyboard strokes on this thread. I can just see Faye Dunaway getting on one of the Ranchmen's table tops with rose between her teeth doing a Mexican fast step or 2 to (probably) impress her acting collegue who was there also, ie, Mr. Warren Beatty (as that Texas eatery's late owner "Pete" told me and my then TWU girlfriend one afternoon we ate there). ******* For some of you newbies, those 2 Hollywood stars were in the Denton/Ponder area filming "Bonnie & Clyde" back in the mid 1960's & was the reason they were at the Ranchmen's Steak House. Many celebs and DFW area sports heros have been there since.
  12. Now wait just a gol' darned minute! Is your name, uh, Coach Charley Weatherbie or something? IMHO, we are an exceptional team when we win a NO's Bowl game and we did just that for our conference in only its 2'nd year of existence. Give us a some credit for doing that, OK? Dickey's teams do just what they have to do in SBC play. I think once we advance this program a light year or 2 with a new football stadium, then we take everything up a significant notch. I hope the SBC (and even Coach Howie' at FAU) will be able to keep up with that. (I know, that sounds just like the 6'th generation Texan that I am)!
  13. I KNOW, I POST WAY TOO MUCH, AM LONG-WINDED TO THE POINT OF AD NAUSEM, CORNY DAD JOKES AND I RAMBLE, RAMBLE, RAMBLE but.......if I only had one more post that I would be allowed to post and Harry then said, "this is your last one, Plumm," then this post and its message would be what I'd want to post as the last one. ................................................................................................................................................... To Emmitt or anyone wanting to make sure your MG Club donation and FB season tickets orders are just as you want, merely call NT Ticket Manager Gabe Kirkpatrick. He is very customer-service oriented and will take care of your personal business with NT. Since he's taken over the NT Ticket Dept, I've received my MG Club billing in due time and have "NEVER" received my season tickets late like many of us would back in the day. ** If any of you have any problems or foresee any, leave Mr. Kirkpatrick a voice mail and I'd guarantee you he will return your call. One of you posted this old saying a few weeks ago: "The journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step" and IMO before we build and move into our football palace at our Eagle Point Campus, lets take care of the smaller stuff that about 3,000 Mean Green Club members would more than do for this athletic program>>>>"our" athletic program. <>*<> It is my understanding from what I heard the last few days from another alum that building the Mean Green Club to a membership of 3,000 members is the goal of NT Athletics. I'll bet we all have some work to do to get there, eh? :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Harry Mier's message board, ie, www.GoMeanGreen.com is closing in on 1,700 registered members. Wouldn't it be quite a statement for our dear ol' alma mater if we from this board could deliver 1,000 new Mean Green Club members instead of just 1,000 different opinions on everything from A to Z or how things should be run in Denton? (If you were in the shoes of any paid employee at NT starting with someone as high as a position as NT president Dr. Norval Pohl, which would you prefer to have from GMG.com members)? :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Fellow Greenbackers, can we agree on this simple fact and one that I've pondered on very much of late, and that is how North Texas Athletics (moreso) really needs our monetary donations first, and, secondly, our butts in seats in record numbers; and that over all of our hot sports opinions and endless suggestions? WOULDN'T IT BE NICE if Harry's board, ie, GMG.com could deliver 1,000 Mean Green Club members at all donor levels? I think once we could possibly deliver that from many of our almost 1,700 registered on GMG.com, that all the other things we all want (mass marketing, advertising-in-your-face, non-stop billboards everywhere you drive in DFW, T-shirt projects for students, etc, etc, etc); anyway, I think all these would all just fall in place if we helped NT athletics take care of busine$$. GMG!
  14. Of course, keep in mind there will be some who are registered on this board from other schools who just might vote in the negative on this poll. Yes or No ( I left "maybe" out of this one). <>*<> To join the Mean Green Club, make a donation to the New Stadium Bldg. Fund OR purchase 2005 Mean Green football season tickets, call 1 (800)-UNT-2366 ****** You can make monthly payments toward your MG Club membership and Ms. Mandy McKinley or any associate of hers can easily help you set that up. NOTE: In fact, right now the NT Ticket Office can help you set up your MG Club membership because once they do that for you, then they will know what seats and section your donation level allows and ALL of that can be done with just one 1-800 phone call. Even a $250 annual donation ($25 billed to you per month) can get you some very nice seating at Fouts Field plus a parking pass.
  15. SE-66, having a 2005 Outland Trophy nominee to anchor this Fall's NORTH TEXAS offensive line gives me the warm fuzzies about much of the good that can happen starting in just about 7-8 weeks now.
  16. We have 2 Mean Green running backs that are capable of controlling any Sun Belt game with their ability to score from anywhere on a Sun Belt football field at anytime of a Sun Belt game. More sustained offensive drives this Fall might be more in order. SBC schools should be more concerned with what one of those running backs did to a Big 12 school that had the #4 ranked rushing defense in NCAA D1-A before he and his MG teammates took to the field in Boulder, Colorado. I feel confident with who Darrell Dickey is reloading to take over from those who have graduated. Hasn't the recruitment of Texas HS talent (and some in Oklahoma) been enough in the SBC thus far (even though NT doesn't win the SBC recruiting guru beauty contest hardly ever)? I know which contest the Mean Green Nation prefers we win each Fall and it ain't on paper.
  17. What I am going to say is by no means pointed at anyone today and I cannot be anymore sincere in saying that, but thru the decades most alums I've seen (and admired considering who they were up against) try to do business-related things concerning our alma mater usually went away pissed and disappointed. On the other side of the coin, I've most always purchased items thru the decades from those who worked outside of NT in doing such projects. SUMG might back me up on that because he and I knew 2 specifically in the 70's who tried to do some things of a sports gear nature with NT, got burn't and subsequently got so pissed at NT they quit supporting the school, but they finally came back to the fold. Perhaps this a good rule of thumb concerning NT as far as alums go? NORTH TEXAS: The toy department of each of ours department store of life? Just my .02 on this subject....
  18. FWIW, most any marketing and promotion plans for this Fall that you could expect to be truly effective would have been put to bed weeks ago. Now I know that won't stop any of us from speculating on what we should be doing, but for promotins that will get large groups of fans out to Fouts Field well............for next Fall NT officials need to start planning around March/April, 2006. I sorta' wish we would have employed the same marketing firm that helped us put the (then) largest crowd ever at Fouts Field for our first Baylor game a few years ago. A good opening day crowd can set the pace for the rest of the football season IMO.
  19. How can we get NT's home football attendance averages closer to the capacity of our stadium this Fall? Isn't it really attendance that is keeping us from going to the next level in so many ways?
  20. And more amazing as we talk marketing, advertsing, promotions and the such is that the promo photo that does show both our stars together very glaringly left each of their jersey numbers completly out of the photo. I am an athletic marketing novice and admit to being such, but the photographer who took that photo of both our Mean Green stars should have known better than to do that. I've always been told that it only takes just a little more effort to do things first class and the correct way.
  21. The New Orleans Bowl means sh**t to 2 conferences actually, and that would be CUSA and the Sun Belt Conference. Most every team who has been the opponent in the NO's Bowl have gone home more than impressed with the New Orleans Bowl Authority's (or whatever they call themselves) 1'st class treatment of their school, their teams and their fans. A long time Cincy' athletic official wrote the SBC offices and told them in all his years at UC, the New Orleans Bowl was the best bowl experience they'd ever had.
  22. If we average over 20K plus this Fall our marketing people would become folk heros for many of us on this board, especially with the off-beat home schedule, ie, a Tuesday night game and a Saturday-after-Thanksgiving game. Some might even want to start building statues in their honor.
  23. The word that has been predominate from most is that Fouts will be demolished because TxDOT needs land that is very close to it that would prevent it from being able to exist as a functional stadium for any purposes. Then it has been said that NT will use all the areas where Fouts used to be and its huge parking lot space surrounding the peripheal of the Fouts complex will be used for new dorms and academic buildings. Surely there would be an update in the campus master plan if there were any changes, right?
