  1. DRUM ROLL]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]]] and before this "no response" poll disappears to Page 2. THE ANSWER IS: ............................................................................................................................................................ NORTH TEXAS beat the University of Florida Gators on October 4, 1947, 20 to12 ! ! ! ! ............................................................................................................................................................ We have played 2 Florida-based schools in the last few years at Fouts Field and won neither. Makes me a bit concerned about playing ANY Fla. schools to be honest about it.
  2. Just out the last 2 weeks at your local Sams or Wal Mart and it is a great double disc DVD you music lovers may want to add to your library. IMO, its just as good (or better) than their superb Hell Freezes Over Tour DVD. Eagle's music takes me back to the good ol' days on our campus in..........DENTON, TEXAS, AMERICA! LOVE THESE EAGLES, TOO!
  3. No disrespect to Phil Steele who has a good magazine, but he did leave off who I think is the Sun Belt's only Lombardy Trophy Award nominee, ie, NT offensive lineman Dylan Lineberry, off his Sun Belt All Conference 1'st team. I don't think some of these magazines really do much serious research on the SBC at this time, but probably will once the 5 year old football portion of the SBC continues to grow in stature. As far as FIU, I don't know what Phil Steele's staff is up to unless they're all FIU alums?
  4. "...to the likes of UNT" is the kind of language that I hope a new 35-40,000 seat stadium over at our Eagle Point Campus will help us lose (loose) forever. We've all been guilty of thinking that way I think we'd all agree. Anyone else ever think that here in the Lone Star State that the Texas State 2'nd 100 list (or blue chip recruits 101-200) ain't too shabby a list to recruit from either? It would be an interesting thing to know how successful Texas HS recruits 101-200 have been in college thru the years compared to the Texas state top 100. Of course, I can't recall ever seeing a Texas State Top 101-200 list, either.
  5. JD, that photo was taken at Houston's Jeppheson Stadium which has been upgraded/re-named and is now the home of the UH Coogs'. To hear ex NORTH TEXAS great Abner Haynes tell about "The Coin Toss" in person is even funnier! Luckily for all "Texans" concerned, Tommy Brooker (I think was his name) kicked the winning field goal. Lamar Hunt went home that day with his first professional championship as an owner. Now I guess I'll register and go read the article.
  6. You know, UNTLifer, I can remember driving up from Houston to Denton to visit my (then) girl friend (a TWU music major) and watching Texas Stadium rise from the Texas prairie. It seemed funny to me that Clint and John (Lupe's husband) Murchison were having a stadum built by the City of Irving that would have a hole right in the center of the roof. With gobal warming heating up, I think if they'd had it to do all over again they might have had a retractable roof put in on Texas Stadium..... JUST LIKE THE CITY OF ARLINGTON AND THE TEXAS RANGERS FOOLISHLY DID NOT DO. I followed with interest the construction of Texas Stadium, drove by it one day as it was about half built. I recall that the first official event at Texas Stadium was not a Cowboy game but rather a Billy Graham Crusade. So I guess in that regard, God from the git-go had more reasons to look down into the hole of that roof rather than just watching His favorite team, eh? Yes, UNTLifer, it does sorta' bother some of us that while the Dallas Cowboys will soon be playing in their 3'rd football stadium since 1960, NT will still be in its 1951 built on-campus football stadium, but not for long from all accounts. BUILD IT!
  7. Can we say, "conference of our choosing" without any kind of petty politics preventing it whatsoever? IMO, Texas Stadium actually proved to be a stumbling-block to NORTH TEXAS for the new stadium part of all this because Hayden Fry thought we could play the Big Boys in the home of the Cowboys and play the rest in Denton. If Texas Stadium back in the day had never been a consideration as a place for us to play, I really feel AD and Head FB Coach Fry would have been out raising funds to build a new stadium when it would have been a helluva' lot cheaper back then; OR just do a dramatic make-over of Fouts Field (without a track). DG, it was 25 or so years ago when many of us thought we should have been doing every bit of this; but I am glad that it is happening now because I think we'd all agree--better late than never?
  8. Upon further review, aren't we breaking some kind of code by discussing an individual's grades at NT. Didn't an ex UT basketball coach get in trouble for that a few years ago? Not sure we should be bringing specific names and his/her grades on GMG.com threads, Harry/Cerebus; that is until something official comes down the pike on this situation.
  9. ADLER, the only thing I can compare all this construction of numerous athletic's venues to is when a city is preparing for the Olympics for heaven's sake! Of course, NT's is on a smaller scale than that, but I can't think of any other comparisons on a collegiate level.
  10. If one of you linksters could link from the official athletic page "The Mean Green Club" page it will show that there is a donor level less than $250 as previously stated. Thanks in advance to you who puts this most important Mean Green Club link on this thread. Harry, someone told me recently they were hacked off at someone at NT and would not give to the Mean Green Club because of that. I told our fellow alum that 5 years from now that NT employee may have a much higher profile BCS job and might look back and laugh at what our MG Club membership numbers were while he (she) was in Denton, Texas, back in 2005. Who wins then fellow alums/fans? Who is getting the last laugh with that scenario? OK I know, that should not be the motivation or reason to give to our athletic department's scholarship fund for our men and women student athletes because our monetary donations should transcend any petty personal likes or dislikes----agree?
  11. "IF (a big one) Battle were to transfer to a D1-A school, how much elgibility would he have?
  12. And Boomer/Sooner ain't seen nothin' yet! Good find, SUMG....NT being ranked #52 nationally is awesome! BUILD (THE REST OF) IT!
  13. Maybe as a 'Boomer I've missed some inside humor from some of you GenX'ers, but I hope this is all mostly tongue n' cheek. Yet Emmitt is one of our best and you all know that PLUS he has committed $1,000 to the 2005/2006 Mean Green Club which is about twice as much as I have for the upcoming year. I admire that from him. Go E01! GMG!
  14. Might want to still wait a bit on the basketball part. Don't think they have football a UNCC. WE ARE.........THE MEAN GREEN and if they have a problem with that maybe we should send Mean Joe Greene up there to tobacky' country to re-emphasize this fact? I think I recall seeing a Phillly' Eagle game back in the 80's and seeing a sign on the wall of their stadium saying "Mean Green." I haven't seen it since when watching the Cowboys play the 'Igggles.
  15. I had never heard about this "Mean Green" usage by UNCC; of course, they not being a football school may be the reason for that with me. I think 4 NORTH TEXAS New Orleans Bowl TV appearances has helped us spread "NORTH TEXAS MEAN GREEN" to even many in the state of North Carolina many of whom probably by now realize there is really only one, uh, MEAN GREEN.
  16. Nevermind ol' buddy GGII, he, I and others on this board have been through a whole lot the last 4 decades--some for 5 and 6 decades believe it or not. Rick, I'm sending you some new medication that ain't working for me so much but maybe they will for you!
  17. Has NT ever had any other players to become inelgible since any of you have been following all this? Just chock all this up as an injury and one who will come back this Spring to get back in the mix.
  18. If NT's phantom Big Donor were to look at our athletic financial sheet and look at the small base of fans we have in our, uh, "booster club" we might be in Fouts Field when some of our young gun alums have their first grandchild.
  19. Only surprising part to me in the artilce is that Northern Illinois was having a problem cutting back on their, uh, history? What kind of history does NIU football have that needs to be drastically cut back? And NIU cut back from 3,700 to 3,600 copies distibuted? Are they sending them to large and medium media markets in Europe and Asia as well? Somethings not right here. (How many of these football medai guides do we print each year at NT)? I am looking at our 2003 NT football media guide that seems to be one of our thickest in size we've had and it only has 144 pages. So what the hell is a MAC school putting in a media guide that has over 250 pages in it anyhow?
  20. H-towngreen, I think we are all mostly just speculating with all this on Korey Washington. I think we all feel Dan Meager would be next in line if Byerly is not elgible (and would IMHO have given Byerly a run for the starting job this Fall as it is). I do think we will need a #2 QB behind Dan Meager, though, and that is probably where Korey Washington comes into all this discussion. I think NT needs to have 2 QB's who are both ready to play no matter what the scenario is. ** Concerning the Wishbone offense and passing: One of the most exciting pass plays many of us have seen in a college football game was when UT QB James Street hit Longhorn receiver Randy Peschel (?) on a long pass play that set up a Longhorn TD that beat the Razorbacks for a NCAA National Championship (as I recall). There can be a real nice passing game from the Wishbone offense. Now do I think Coach Dickey installs the wishbone on even just a few plays this Fall: No.
  21. Sun Belt Conference (football): Est. 2001 We're still in the diaper stage, folks.
  22. I think one thing the NT/LT game will prove is just who is recruiting at a higher level no matter what conference either school is in. NT--42 LT--14 The Emerald Express (Sir Patrick Cobbs) and Super JaMo' Thomas run wild all afternoon long. It won't matter who the NT QB is unless he cannot hand off the football (then that would be a problem). We will still pass the ball enough to make our receivers happy and to keep 8-9 defensive players from crowding the line.
  23. Obviously, between these 3 system schools: UH, Texas Tech and University of North Texas, the allocations might also be an indicator of which one (out of the 3) is expecting the most growth. Growth needs more facilities and facilities needs the funding. I thing we all know a superb place just off Interstate 35-E where they could build another 2 dorms and an academic bldg (or 2). ; that is, they can begin doing that after we have a special implosion party 2'nd to none ever had in the Lone Star State. BUILD IT!
  24. Ditto! And throw a few wishbone plays in there to boot! Minnie-miney-minnie-moe-which of our 3 speedsters gets the ball! A most interesting Fall ahead to say the least.
