  1. And I can remember when one our our most comedic and humorous posters ever on GMG.com was an NT student and joined the Mean Green Club while a student. The UNT student friend of yalls, untgirl04, who bought a 2005 NT football season ticket just to be able to sit with you guys deserves some special kind of commendation. Harry/Cerebus, any ideas?
  2. Both of you are retired and giving to the Mean Green Club & purchasing 2005 NT football season tickets? Many of us on this board would admit to being duly impressed with that feat by both you and your wife, GrayEagle. Way to go! GMG!
  3. Ditto, Emmitt and SUMG: Ok, lets say a person puts $50 down toward the $250 membership which opens up many new opportunities among those would be: (1) Lower or Upper Section E ticket prime seating opportunities (2) Some pretty nice gift percs as a $250 level donor one or more of those gifts which may even make nice Christmas gifts to a friend or relative. (OK, you've just saved some on your 2005 Christmas shopping). (3) Get an up-close 2005 reserved parking auto mirror hanger which means you don't have to shell out cash each time you park somewhere near Fouts Field. (4) You also make NT $250 closer to all the things we all want to happen in Mean Green Country. ............................................................................................ WILL THESE FIGURES WORK? With $50 down toward the $250, that would make your monthly payments $20 for 10 months or $5 per week. I put $24 in my auto gas tank just last night. If 2 go out to eat pizza, a party of 2 (or more) will spend more than $20. If one goes to Starbucks 3 X's a week, for the money you'd spend doing that over the month, you could probably easily join the $500 level MG Club! No matter a person's situation, there may be some semblance of budget sacrifice involved, but I think most of us could eliminate a monthly luxury or 2 and easily find $20 a month (with an initial $50 down unless you want less down and a bit higher monthly payment). NT has made all this all too easy for us compared to other schools our size. Our ticket prices are still very low compared to other schools in NCAA D1-A. <>*<> Get your spot in Section E now so you can have first dibbs on similar tickets when we move across I35-E to our future new stadium. They will probably grandfather your Section E seats for maybe a year or 2 once we're in that new stadium--just a guess on that, though. 1-800-UNT-2366......................is the number anyone can call on weekdays this next week to make your 2005/2006 committment to the Mean Green Club and take care of your 2005 MG FB season ticket needs with the same phone call--one stop shopping (so to speak) AND let them explain all this to you as you will find a friendly voice on the other side of the aforementioned 1-800 number.
  4. So far, I have none. {SUMG, I think you have MINE}! LOL! I did print the entire 2005 NT Mean Green Fan Guide from the official site, though, as anyone else with a printer can do. Then I took the publication to a Starbucks, read it and "accidently"}:>) left it there where I guess someone else picked it up and browsed through it. Hopefully that someone was a future JUCO All Amercian, maybe one of our 2006 Texas Friday Night Heros "OR" a new NT Mean Green Club member and a 2005 NT football season tickets buyer). Someone have that Fan Guide link for our fans who have not received it yet? I am sure they would be grateful to get it so they can print their own, too.
  5. To all of you with SIRIUS Satellite Radio, enjoy the SBC Football Media Day beginning tomorrow (Monday & Tuesday). Darrell Dickey, Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas are interviewed from 10:30 AM--11:00 AM
  6. I believe the kid from Aledo HS (Parker County) is going to be a preferred "walk on" at TCU. Seems that is what one of my friend's sons who plays QB at AHS told me.
  7. Great news on our September 10'th game in the 'Boro. I think most of us thought this would happen, but I suppose that will mean one of the local UHF stations (like Channel 27) in the USA's 7'th largest TV market will televise this game?
  8. SUMG, GrayEagle has been saying if we had that kind of base and about a 10,000 MG fan's who bought season tickets that we could probably start building our stadium without a Fat Cat, ie, Big Donor. Something about using bonds to do that, right Jack? 1-800-UNT-2366 is a weekday call that can change your life forever as a Mean Green fan or alum. They can tell you how you can invest that $0.34 per day (and get some fairly nice percs for doing so). Some of those percs even worthy as Christmas gifts this December. ????? Driving into FW this AM, I was thinking if NT Athletics had a "check by phone" method of payment if that would help many out there. Would it help you, specifically, GMG.com readers because so many have cut up their MasterCards, Visas or Discovery cards? Wonder how easy that would be to set up over at the NT Athletic Department if they were interested in doing this?
  9. Great idea! And I didn't know we were the first computer science program to be accredited. And we could call it, uh.............GATES-WAY CENTER STADIUM @__________FIELD? (drum roll-----AYE!) MORE GREEN {$$$$$$$$$$} FOR THE MEAN GREEN? We should be able to get a few million for the naming rights of the "Field" part of our new stadium, too, as retaining the Fouts Field name would be highly unusual since we are talking about a new facility at a new location. ALSO..........how about naming each one of the I-35's the new stadium will be sitting between with names of 2 Big Donors, too? Or name the 2 interstates after 2 Texas politicians who might play a most significant part in helping us out with the finishing of our 200 acre Mean Green Athletic Village? Out here at the Parker/Tarrant County lines, where I-20 divides from I-30 that segment of the interstate (heading toward the Hulen Mall area) is going to be re-named "President Ronald Reagan Highway" according to a recent Fort Worth Star Telegram article.
  10. My bad.... I think you are right, SUMG. Maybe they should let him interview our guys since he is most familiar with Darrell Dickey and the Mean Green football program since Donnan has been on many of our ESPN broadcasts the last few years. I believe the ESPN broadcaster said in a TV broadcast of one of our games that he had coached with DD's dad (Coach Jim Dickey) in the past.
  11. This from the new SBC website which one of you may want to link for the entire SBC Media Day schedule. SBC Media Day will also be broadcast "live" on SIRIUS Satelite Radio beginning this next Monday, July 25'th at 9:00 AM. ESPN's Jim Donnan interview with our Coach Dickey, Patrick Cobbs and Jamario Thomas is scheduled for Monday, 10:30 AM--11:00 AM on the SIRIUS Satelite Radio. SBC Media Day will actually be "Days" as it is being held on both Monday and Tuesday of this upcoming week. Also, watch your local newspapers for coverage on those 2 days as well. The Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram and (certainly) the Denton Record-Chronicle have given SBC Media Days pretty good coverage in past years. Hey all you Houstonians who are North Texas Exes or Mean Green fans, does it get coverage with the Houston Chronicle, too? GMG!
  12. How do the admission standards of U of H, Texas Tech and North Texas differ? Anyone know where to find such info?
  13. SUMG, isn't that the all star game that Gil Brandt helps pick the players?
  14. And SOC is doing this with the approval of the Texas University Interscholastic League, FFR?
  15. And true freshman Bryan Glass (6'0"/280) from Paris High School comes to Mean Green Country wiith the full blessings of Coach Gene Stallings who (as I recall) made the comment that he would have recuited this kid if he were still head football coach at Alabama. Guess the kid must have some real pedigree, eh?
  16. GrayEagle, I have been duly impressed with the names I've heard floating around who have NT connections who could be our ultimate all time NT folk hero in all this. Some of that group might be attracted to the fact that they won't need to shell out near as much as Boone Pickens has for an Oklahoma State yet still get their name on our new stadium. Last I heard, seems Boone ol' boy was in the $100 million range at least. PLUS THIS FACT: We will have one of the best located college football stadiums in America hands down. NORTH TEXAS can probaby build all we need for $50 million with a Big Donor plunking down $30 million to get naming rights and to get this thing jump-started. I have to believe NT fundraisers can find 20 others at $1 million each with each of those 20 getting lifetime ultra-luxury suites at our new stadium for they, their companies and their families. And like Coach Darrell Dickey said (and I very liberally paraphrase): "I've never seen this university fail in anything it has set its mind of doing." Not exactly his words, but close enough. And this university wants a new football stadium at our Eagle Point Campus. TxDOT sorta' wants us to have a new one, too. FOUTS IMPLOSION CEREMONY TBA!
  17. Of course, you'd know that former TI plant is now the NT College of Engineering which outgoing NT president Norval Pohl brilliantly negotiated its purchase for dear ol' alma mater. I remember reading in some DFW real estate publication how that TI plant purchase by NT really got the attention of the regional real estate industry because it was such a steal of a deal. PLUS.....we got a facility that "only" has 550,000 square feet! One Fine Day.........we will all wake up to read that NORTH TEXAS has landed its Big Donor(s) for our future new stadium @ Eagle Point Campus and I believe that will happen sooner than later. Its going to happen, we just have to be a little more patient. There are just too many Texas egos of which one out there (and "one" is all we need, folks) will want their family's (or business) name on such a highly visible facility as that new football stadium will be out there between Interstate35-E and Interstate35-W. Can anyone only imagine how many cars pass by that property on a daily basis?
  18. We need to do all the things on that list just for us; that is, never minding a possble future in the MWC. IMHO, "IF" the MWC expanded in Texas, I'd see them wanting the Houston TV market and that would be UH, of course. Just don't think UH will have near as good as facilities as NORTH TEXAS once the entire Mean Green Athletic Village is completed. And if NT hasn't learned anything in recent years, haven't we learned where facilities do make a difference sometimes in getting in conferences? Even having good overall facilities over some schools who regularly go to bowl games in some cases?
  19. For you newbies or visitors to GMG.com, "Glad to be Green" is the Director of Athletics at the University of North Texas, one Mr. Rick Villarreal. Like Reagan once stared into a TV camera and asked Americans this question in a presidential debate: "Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago?" (As one who voted for Carter the first time I would have to admit that we were not better off). Well, in Mean Green Country, we know we are better off than we were 4-5 years ago which was about the time our AD started rolling up his sleeves in Mean Green Country. This 1976 NT grad offers a Texas-sized----Thank You, Rick V, and I know many others on this forum feel as strongly and will state such on this forum or in a personal email to you. Anyone else needing further proof of this progress only has to look out between those 2 interstates at the 200 acres of an olympic-type village at our Eagle Point Campus. Just look out and see facilities already completed and others rising up on the rolling Texas prairie like the Phoenix off the desert sands with every bit of this under the watch of University of North Texas Athletic Director Rick Villarreal. GMG!
  20. Bump, bump..... I know a CUSA poster who wants to see these links.
  21. Back while in high school, I once took the HS sweetheart to Rice Stadium to see the Owls and Arkansas Razorbacks and the Hogs literally had more fans than the home team. Not so unusual at Rice, of course. Maybe the SEC wanted those visiting Hog fans back when they first brought Arkansas into their league, but there has (somewhat) been an evolution take place with the Big Boys it seems in recent years and that is: Just how many of the Texas', TAMU's, Tennessee's and the like even have the luxury of allotting large numbers of tickets (with a view) to visiting fans anymore? Back in the day, NT could buy as many ticket to go down and play the Longhorns as we wanted, but now look what tickets they are giving NT. I have not been back to UT since. So my new take on all this now is: What the heck, save gas, hotel expenses and just give that money to the MG Club or buy an additional season ticket or 2 because we all know that NT athletics needs the money (and additional butts at Fouts) a helluva lot more than UT does. The Big Boys are all mostly filling their stadiums with their own fans now. It really does seem like a whole new era because of that, too. We still have some work ahead at NT before we can tell our visiting teams that they can only have 500 tickets because that is all we can spare. What a happy day when that time in our future does arrive and hopefully sooner than later.
  22. KAjunRaider, thanks for this info albeit sad.
  23. He can leap tall buildings on a single bounce. Seriously..... NT QB's for 2005: (1) Daniel Meager (Watch out SBC if this guy stays injury-free). (2) Special "K" aka Korey Washington (I like your nickname for him, Harry). (3) ?????
  24. My .02 is the eastern sports writers will not be wanting to cover the Big East as much if they are suddenly dropped out of the elite BCS group. Anyone want to know the power and influence of the eastern sports-writing crowd? Just ask a boat load of Dallas Cowboys who cannot get into the NFL Hall of Fame because of their influence. If Big East Commish' Tranghese were smart, he would be mobilizing that entire bloc of eastern sports writers to help his cause. Hopefully, in due time, the NCAA will make all this a non-issue for the Big East, MWC, WAC, MAC and the Sun Belt. That might be a pipe dream, but stranger things have happened within the NCAA.
