  1. Older nestors, would you say that NT's Mighty Quinn is a faster version of Fred Bilitnikoff?
  2. Was extremely disppointed jOnat8an left out my local Piggley-Wiggley chain out of his choices.
  3. Can I hear "The Hammer" in that line somewhere?
  4. Then MT just made more Rivals.com recruiting lists because of one of their alum's investment in the Rivals board, too. Just a theory on that, though.
  5. More specific interrpretation of that, NCMeanGreen? BTW, I do enjoy reading your posts---glad you joined this board recently.
  6. OK, I get it already! BUT....always keep one photo-copy of the 2005 NT Mean Green football pocket schedule in case of an extreme emergency (and laminate the darn thing, too)!
  7. 10 yard penalty! Piling on! Seriously, I don't think NT knows how many DFW alums we have, but one can kind of multiply the estimated number of annual graduates over a 30-40 span, figure most of them stay in DFW and probably come up with a close estimate? 1,000? Which Sams are we talking about here? The one in Denton I presume? ADDENDUM: Whoops! Just read the thread title, eh?
  8. And I'm running out of time, DG, because the Academy will be rolling out their nominations, soon BUT seriously....let Coach Howie get all his coverage (and trust, me he needs lots of TV coverage for what he wants to do with his football program); anyway, let FAU (and the SBC) get their "Coach Howie' exposure against Kansas, Minnnesota and Louisville (all 3 on TV and before much larger audiences than he will see in the Sun Belt for the time being) AND not at the expense of the pioneer schools in this league.
  9. JUST MY .02.... No where have I criticized Wright Waters for his previous SBC service; in fact, I think I have praised him as much as anyone on this board in the past--but this is now, ie, the present and people have been known to change colors in life and even in their job performance. Some employees (& some, uh, schools) have been known to take 3 giant steps forward--then 4 backwards. I just hope Wright will right this wrong that has happened under his watch and will help us all take another giant step forward. This SBC TV thing needs to be addressed and changed before the 2005 football season even kicks off because it sets a bad precedent for future SBC football champions as in----win the SBC, go to NO's Bowl and then watch upstart schools in your league who have yet to average 10,000 per home game get all the SBC TV coverage percs the next year? It is just a big (but correctable) blunder by Wright Waters as far as this one NT alum is concerned and one (as any of you on GMG.com would be) who doesn't like to see his school or his school's football team getting messed around with by anyone from the SBC headquarters. Anyway, this very pro-FAU SBC TV package takes Wright Water's approval ratings way south in my eyes and apparently already has with those from other SBC outposts because they are commenting with as much concern--starting with the Middle Tennesse Delphi board. No where have I insinuated that Wright Waters be removed from his job over this one situation as that would be a bit knee-jerk and hasty, but NORTH TEXAS officials should surely confront him over this poor choice on his part and Mean Green fans everywhere should be duly pissed with this situation. I still smell a skunk with every bit of this 2005 SBC TV deal and I just feel that Waters is genflecting to a known coaching legend who just happens to be in the SBC for now, that is, until he gets his new stadium and can then find a better league for FAU as he suggested last year in a media quote. IMHO, NORTH TEXAS also doesn't need to accomodate any other SBC school's (ASU) football schedules, either, because I feel this year that cost us one ESPN game and created more potential attendance chaos because we now have had to schedule a Saturday-after-Thanksgiving game that is going to literally crucify our 2005 attendance average this Fall. And BTW, have we given up on the concept of significant attendance improvement anymore? Hey, I appreciate all our bowl games like any of you, also like any NT alum from my era and beyond certainly would, but that is not bringing new faces/new fans out of the woodwork to venerable Fouts Field, fellow Greenbackers. More TV game coverage is one of those things that can help wake up much of your fan base, though.
  10. FAU... 7 TV games (WW's knew FAU had 3 games already scheduled for TV with Kansas, Minn. & Lou'ville) NT......3 TV games period I call them as I see them, conspiracy or no conspiracy, the MG Nation is not going to have our team as prime time SBC TV stars this year--who could even guess about next year. Coach Smellin'berger obviously worked his magic on Waters to make sure his school took over our TV role. ....................................................................................................................... FWIW, Arkansas State has 5 SBC games on TV and because NT accomodated them so they could schedule Army in Jonesboro, we probably sacrificed an ESPN game because of that act of generosity. That also created the scenario as to where we had to schedule a game at Fouts the Saturday after Thanksgiving. You want to be responsible for promoting that game while the NT students are at home eating leftover turkey and dressing? An early Christmas present from Mean Green Country, ASU...
  11. Most of us would give Waters his due for things he did in the past but as far as the present, Wright is wrong on this one. NORTH TEXAS should be rewarded with more TV games than anyone else in the SBC because of our accomplishments and that has been the M.O. in the past. Accomplishment is usually deservedly rewarded. Someone has influenced Waters to do something different this time around with the SBC TV package and I can think of a former Big Time head football coach who probably sees working conference commissioners as sport. I think the celebrity of FAU Coach Schnellenberger has somehow wowed Waters into going a bit over-board with what his influence with the SBC TV package has obviously given Coach Howie's school this Fall. Anyone don't think Howie has been politickin' with Waters during the off season I may want to talk about some ocean front property for sell in Arizona. On the other side of the coin, Waters can ill afford to piss off the SBC school that is located in his league's largest televsion market.
  12. I agree......suggesting that NT fans volunteer to find a spot to put out 2005 Mean Green football pocket schedules and keeping them stocked in said place for a few weeks in September is a tad too way out there. So how do you suggest that we as non-paid volunteers play a small part (but still, a part) to try to fill half of Fouts Field this Fall? To quote Ross Perot in a presidential debate a few years ago: "I'm all ears."
  13. Even yet, MG61, Wrong Waters had to be aware of those games FAU would be playing on TV that were not in the SBC TV package before he finalized the SBC TV package. Why didn't Wrong Waters tell his new good drinkin' buddy friend, Coach Howie: "Now Howie, you guys already have 3 games scheduled for TV with Kansas, Minn. and Louisville, so we are going to be fair with the rest of the Sun Belt (especially with our "4-peat" champions NORTH TEXAS) and just give your school 1 SBC TV package game and that will be against NORTH TEXAS since neither of the Mean Green's games in Florida are presently slated for any kind of television coverage." After all, Howie, that would put your school on TV 4 times and we just cannot let our FB champion have less TV games than you." 'Is that OK, with you Howie?" "Oh, it's not?" "Well then, lets see how we can change all this around to accomodate you and your school's first official year in the SBC." We are being baptized by Waters, folks, and he's holding us under. He's amazingly turned his back on our program for his new celebrity hero friend, Howard Schnellenberger. Sure this is a rant, but thats just the way all this with Howie Smellen'berger smells to me. Awe............the power of celebrity. Want further proof of that? Just go as far as the UTEP Miners and Mike Price. His team is ranked # 90 something last year and is now in one publication's Top 25? Jeez?!? We should all be pissed about this and some official at NORTH TEXAS should be raising a little hell over this face-to-face with Wrong Waters. Our "4-peat" Mean Green SBC football champions and its fans are royally gettting screwed, folks.
  14. Man oh man this burns my buns because you know it wasn't even a year ago that FAU Coach Howard Schnellenberger said "FAU needs to go ahead and build a new domed stadium and get the hell out of the Sun Belt Conference" (in more or less words). So what does SBC commissioner Wright "obviously celebrity-wowed" Waters do? This is what he does: He puts Coach Howie and his team on the SBC TV package (is it really) "SEVEN" (7) freakin' times? Has NORTH TEXAS (located in the USA's 7'th largest TV market as well as the SBC largest TV market) even made it on TV close to that number in the regular season and even after we beat the CUSA football co-champions in the 2002 NEW ORLEANS BOWL? Wrong career move, Wright. You are rewarding the wrong folks. Don't even think our football team will appreciate that kind of snub because Coach Howie has obviously been in New Orleans schmoozin', wine-in' and dine-n' Waters for more air time. Hey, maybe all this extra attention may even work to one day get him the launch out of the SBC he wants, eh? Some will now be officially taking mental notes on this kind of tommyrot and treatment from now on.
  15. Ok, you want re-alignment threads or one of my vintage poll threads?!?!? OK, I think I hear ya'.
  16. Its not in Denton, but I'll make sure UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth has the 2005 NT Mean Green pocket schedule in each of their almost 1,000 mail boxes--both students and faculty. GMG!
  17. And just where would be your strategic spot to place the 2005 NT football pocket schedules and make sure they stay stocked at that location thru September? Of course, I'm sure there will be a small volunteer army that will initially blitz Denton and put them out at numerous places, but what one place would you make sure has them all the time thru September?
  18. I think Wright Waters has to have all his schools shoot for the moon and have hopes of at least hitting the barn with this attendance thing. NT's attendance woes is a complete dilemma to many of us especially since we have so much new population in Denton County. I still say we have to be just like the evangelical churches, folks, and just go out and get them (but been saying that for a few decades now). There is something SUMG and I have called the "Denton malaise" for years and it is an attitude that just completely guts out the enthusiasm of so many of our past NT Athletic Department employees. Having many NT enthusiast (yet non-investors) in this Mean Green football program has had as much to do with that "malaise" as anything, fellow alums/fans. I just hope this is not the case now in MG Country, but to see any plan to dramatically increase FB attendance at Fouts Field would be a most welcome sight now.
  19. Howard Smellin'burger showed what he was about as OU's short-term coach (liquor breath and all); hellsbells, he looks like an alchie' or a wine-o in the Mogen David choir on Fort Worth's downtown Jones Street. Is Wright Waters being swayed by ol' Howie here?!?!? Have we lost our luster with Wright ol' boy? This really makes for good bulletin board material in my mind's eye. It's NT vs the SBC now!
  20. Such a list with anyone from FIU on it is about as legitimate as a $3 bill. Like how long they been in the freakin' Sun Belt now? If I were Coach DD, I'd start putting together a "It's us vs the SBC" theme on the bulletin board this Fall and you can start with a young NT team having to play its first SBC game "on the road " as the 2'nd game of the season. Sure, I know MT has to play it, too, but they do get it at home. Anyone remember when we had to got to the 'Boro 2 years in a row? Now also add SUMG's find that Coach Howie "Smellin'burger's FAU has 7 TV games to our, uh, 4? What'st next? These kind of things should be pointed out to our team (not that they really need it); because it may make some of them want to do a little "extra" slobber-knockin'" when they play any SBC team. On the other side of the coin, folks, the SBC is progressing with one school (TU) having a (basically) new stadium and another (FAU) with plans for a domed stadium or now even a shared stadium with an NFL team what I read on some other board. How do we keep up with the change$? $$$$$$$$$$$$
  21. Does look like a very short exclusive list since there are quite a few offensive linemen to choose from in NCAA D1-A. Congrats to Coach Dickey, his assistant and most of all...................DYLAN LINEBERRY!
  22. But as one of our fellow posters from east Texas pointed out to me just last evening via the miracle of the telephone, NT really started making hay with the 8 Texas state top 100 kids Coach Dickey and staff signed about 5 or 6 years ago. This was the group that got NT into a bowling frame of mind while even winning one of those bowl games in 2002 against the CUSA football champion at the NEW ORLEANS BOWL. The amazing thing to me to this day about that recruiting class of Dickey's 5 or 6 years ago, was that at the time there were absolutely no drawings on the board for an Athletic Center, least of all plans for a 200 acre olympic-style village with a new 35-40,000 seat football stadium as the icing on the cake for those 200 acres, ie, very highly visible property off the 2 interstates we now see a few facilities already completed and others now under construction. Coach Dickey has lost some of the assistant coaches who helped him recruit those 8 state top 100 recruits to other programs who could pay more salaries than NT. He will lose others in the near future if we as alums and fans don't start investing en mass with this athletic program. Look for a new NT president to not be as "pro athletics" as Pohl was because NT's history is to hire just the opposite of who just left so some group is going to have to take up the slack in the area of more funds for athletics, so folks, get the check books out. Still amazing to me that Noval Pohl who resided over our schools largest growth in enrollment, adding record numbers of new facilities while also adding some prestigious majors to our academic offering was not popular to many of the professors on campus. Anyone else notice what kind of president at NT gets bad reviews from our NT employees and wonder why that is? Sorry, I am getting off subject here. This is gravitating to the point of ad nausem from me and I know it is, but if we as NT Exes and Mean Green fans had given NT Athletics a better donor ba$e by way of the "you know what" athletic department fundraising arm, some of these coaches get higher salaries and stick around MG Country while at the same time probably helping Coach Dickey continue to sign more Texas state top 100 blue chippers (just as they did 5-6 years ago). We will lose other of DD's present assistant coaches unless we stay competitive (or exceed) what other schools are paying out salary-wise. Most of the schools who would hire our best away fro us use their athletic department's fund-raising arm to help suppliment salaries. It's still all about like meanjoe ends every one of his posts and you all know what that is by now.
  23. When we reach our NT Athletic Department's goal of 3,000 Mean Green Club members, I'd say that would put us well over $1,000,000 plus in annual scholarship monies which immediately frees up other funds for all the other kinds of projects and ideas many of us have posted on www.GoMeanGreen.com the last few years. If you checked "OTHER" please explain what your "other" is. Thanks! GMG!
  24. Just a theory: But it seems many of the non BCS schools who have Rivals.com sponsored boards for each of their schools seem to get on more of these kid's schools wishlist more frequently than NT (who doesn't have a Rivals.com sponsored board). The Dallas Morning News Local, State and National Top 100 are all three Rivals.com lists ranked by Bobby Burton's Rivals staff with some (so-called) assistance from the local paper. Still probably mostly done by Rivals, though.. As I said....just a theory. Anyone else concur? Also, NT seems to recruit many out-of-state players as the Mean Green Recruiting Update premium board list shows and none of those names would (obviously) not show up on the the Dallas Morning News Local or State Top 100 lists, either.
  25. I don't think your stereo-typing at all but just being topical about current trends in Texas' population growth. UNT's campus radio stadion KNTU-FM 88.1 does all its weekend programming in Spanish for our Spanish speaking Communication Majors. What better time to advertise to the Hispanic community than on our alma mater's campus radio station on the weekends? I still wish NT Athletics had a Spanish broadcast (and monies to produce such) of every Mean Green football game on its future agenda. Yes, I know English is our official language, but last time I looked at a map, Texas and Mexico were neighbors and we still have a whole bunch of Spanish-speaking resident aliens with their Mean Green cards (sorry, couldn't resist) in their billfolds. It is a demographic that we cannot ignore too much longer. AND....great idea! I am glad to see the Dickey's and some of the athletic department staff are hosting such an event. IMO, this is one of the ways we begin to create the much needed "new faces/new fans" at venerable Fouts Field.
