  1. Already been requested and approved. Good reminder, though, TheColonyEagle. For the ESPN TV cameras, NT needs to round up 4,000 bandsmen, high school kids from all over Denton County, Junior MG Club members galore and all their parents AND all sitting under the south end zone Daktronics because the cameras will be focussed on that part of Fouts Field much of the night I'm sure. Troy U with their national TV game last Fall vs Missouri was wise to do all that. It seemed that the TV cameras were more focussed on that large group of HS bands under Movie Gallery Stadium's large scoreboard as much as the sideline TV shots.
  2. Do you know what time on Sunday? Is it open to the public? I have to work this Saturday and can't make the BBQ. BTW, FFR, if you need more funds for that event, email me and I will catch up with you somewhere in Parker County with a czech.
  3. Stebo, I could have sworn I saw 2 round gigantic contrast and brightness buttons on the back of our Daktronics! (sorry--that was my Norm Hitzhges dad joke of the day)! Surely there would be a way to get a TV broadcast on the Daktronics, right? Wonder who would have the Daktronics guide where we could check that out?
  4. For those of us who will be here in Texas, the Metroplex (and beyond) on September 10'th and might want to congregate as MG fans at one location, is it possible for this game to be shown on the giant screen of the Fouts Field Daktronics as far as TV copyright laws are concerned?
  5. Damn! Doncha' just love those Eagles aka Mean Green?!?!?!??!? This group will go bowling! Mark it in 3 inch HEADLINES!
  6. I hear what all are saying about the NT students, but I had a UHouston grad/alum (who lived in DFW) sit by me couple years back and he said NT had as many (or more) of our students at Fouts Field games than the Coogs did at Robertson Stadium. IMHO, we should focus more on those 500,000 citizens who live in Denton County. We seem to not have an aggressive plan to do such (unless its a top secret plan or something). Everyone put their numbers cap on: NT Enrollment..........32,000 (plus 5,000+/- NT employees) Denton County......500,000 Marketing focus? You be the judge. GMG!
  7. Yeah, we flip-flopped our schedule which gave ASU the opportunity to play Army. Not totally sure that was in our best interest either; but what's done is done. The 2005 NT football schedule is the most out of sync schedule I can recall in 30 plus years, except for a 2 or 3 seasons we only had 4 home games at Fouts quite some time ago. I'm sure our guys will meet the challenge, though. GMG!
  8. Wonder how soon Coach Dickey installs the Middle TN game plan? Hope our players have several copies of some video of last years game, that would be most beneficial (expecially if they watch the video). GMG!
  9. This should be one of those TV games that they (in deed) move to Tuesday night if they televise this game; because if memory serves me, we did that last year on ESPN2 the week of Turkey Day AND on a Tuesday night.
  10. NT players who have overcome? How about starting with ex Mean Green great Brian Waters who "only" made the NFL's All Pro team last year and with NT ex great and All American Abner Haynes' former team--the Kansas City Chiefs?
  11. Briefly ... Freshman Eddrick Gilmore worked with UNT's tight ends on the first day of practice. Gilmore was considered a college prospect as both a tight end and defensive end during his senior year at Alief Hastings. ... Former Sanger standout Chris Higgs, the younger brother of UNT safety Cliff Higgs, has joined the Mean Green as a walk-on. ←
  12. I think many of us will applaud the NT Intercollegiate Department of Athletics in keeping their official board very up-to-date. Its becoming a great source of hot-off-the press news and feature articles all of us internet news-hounds will probably appreciate more than just about anyone. GREAT JOB NT ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT ! GMG!
  13. As with many subjects on GMG.com, I'm also a complete novice with photography, too; but was the photo of Fouts taken with a concave lens as to make the NT student side look almost flattened out?!?!? If so, I need that camera to take my next portrait, or its back to the old wide-angle lens for me once again.
  14. Sure a lot more media types with microphones & TV cameras trying to get quotes from Coach Dickey and our football stars than there used to be in our march through purgatory days of years gone by, eh? Good to see that Mean Green Media Day was an apparent success. GMG!
  15. Of course, if you have a "run-oriented" offense (which we do) with some pretty good running backs (of which we have 4 of those) and become an offensive juggernaut (which many think we'll be this season for some [insert sublimenal PCobbs/JThomas] reason; and we have a Mean Green offense that uses a lot of clock (which we should) THEN......... you don't have to have a "monsters of the midway" type of defense out on the field; although, I think we will have a pretty good defense as the season progresses. Lets check out the Mean Green Report this evening to see if Willie Ransom will be part of it.
  16. Uh, "little ol' North Texas?" Obviously another DFW-ite who hasn't been on our campus in about 5 years, eh? Sorta' fun playing the under-dog role, though, isn't it? Good article from Jeff Wilson though, and if he is the beat writer for the Mean Green this year, I'm sure he has been on campus not that long ago, right? GMG! PS: Harry, we won't allow this to happen anymore on whoever is hacking GoMeanGreen.com (or whatever the problem was)! Great job, guys, and look forward to the next Mean Green Report which I think you told me was sometimes today or this evening?
  17. Congrats to you and your grandson, Charles. Hope you can bring him to some MG football games this Fall, although he may be wearing some shade of purple.
  18. TSN has most definitely run out of topics. Right after a certain city in the northern part of Texas received a last place designation in this TSN poll a few years ago, didn't a certain athletic department (in that northern Texas city) hire a marketing firm owned by exes of 1 of that city's 2 universities, turned em' loose for an entire summer, then they (with many of that town's movers and shakers) produced the largest (at the time) football crowd in that school's 100+ year history? Wasn't that about the time that happened?
  19. Stebo, at age 54 going on 55 being jealous of much anything is hardly a part of my personna, make-up or disposition. Never was much the jealous type anyway and anyone who has known me much of my first 54 years would probably concur. Being opinionated seems to bother some about me more than anything. Guess they will have to continue being bothered. Hey, I've been around 54 years and have about 54 years worth of opinions on a variety of subjects--32 years worth of opinions about NT Athletics, specifically football---sorry. Even now, I'd rather be talking about Bobby Knight and the subject of this thread than responding to you, stebo, about myself and of your humble opinion thinking I am jealous of some person, some school or something. Texas Tech is a fine school whose athletic teams during most of my lifetime whether they were in the SWC or the Big 12 usually have finished in the middle-of-the-pack. Who would be jealous of that? I think Texas Tech's Bobby Knight is a foul-mouthed sumbich' yankee jerk that doesn't need to be pampered with any kind of special publicity, especially of a national television variety. Have you ever heard this jerk, stebo, on his afternoon KTCK radio show during basketball season? So....in my heart of hearts, I am mostly humored how my opinions concerning Bobby Knight, Texas Tech or the subject at hand could even be considered tantamount of me being jealous? There may be more suitable adjectives for it, but jealousy is not one of them. PS: OK, confession time (they say its good for the soul and all that); anyway, I am jealous that you Young Gun Alums (of which seems like yesterday I was one myself) will be around longer to enjoy a state-of-the-art football stadium at Eagle Point Campus than my group of the B'Boomer generation-so you did catch me in a weak moment after all because of "THAT" ! (But I will get over it and find some solace that at least that facility will one day stand out on that rolling Texas prairieland). GMG!
  20. For those of us who cannot seem to get the link of the cam, is there a still photo of the completed Omni-Grass?
  21. Well lets just see how those top-ranked "D's" in the SBC handle an offensive line that may be one of our best to date; and an offensive line with 2 pretty fair RB's AND for you just visiting or lurking, an offensive line that has a Lombardy Trophy nominee leading the way who you will most assuredly see playing on Sundays in the 2006 NFL season. Did the ranking-meisters of our linebackers use the UT game of last Fall as their barometer or something?!?!?
  22. Even more the reason to add a Houston area radio station to the Mean Green Radio Network (MGRN). We know this board has an endless wish list, but a radio presence in the Bayou City may be one that belongs in the NT Department of Athletic's Top 5 list of priorities? Would a larger Mean Green Club with record numberso of dues-paying members help this become reality? Houston NT Exes, any ideas on this? GMG!
  23. Thanks for that article to remind us about what our priorities still must be, NT80. I think a few of our elect had forgotten why we need to do these things. I don't think anyone on this message board is in on any of the fundraising process at NT for the new football stadium, the new baseball stadium, the Wellness Center, a new College of Business facility and future dorms. They are just not going to make us privvy' to high level negotiations in NT fundraising efforts. Can you blame them for that? Much of this has to be done with discretion and privacy, usually a request from the potential donors and for certain one that is honored by NT officials The owner of the Denton Outlaws says he will not build a piece of junk out at Eagle Point (NT Regents wouldn't let him anyway) and I believe him. I believe he will wait however long he needs to wait to start building this baseball facility and that until he gets all the necessary funds he needs. They have a place for now and good ol Mack Park can be improved to some extent as a temporary home I'm sure if his team needs it for next season. I don't think NT or the Outlaw owner would have put their personal repuatations on the line by boasting about a new baseball stadium back when they did if they didn't think it would eventually happen. Heard from 2 reliable sources recently that a high ranking NT official believes we will be in a new football stadium in 4 years--not 5 years--not 50 years ( if you listen to our small gang in Negative Ned Corner). Amazing how "The Corner" really didn't have time to get negative at all about "what wouldn't happen at Eagle Point Campus" because............its already happened or it is happening at Eagle Point Campus. BTW, does any semblance of negativity about NT create a desire within you to want to give extra (or even a penny) to your alma mater?
  24. Tom Nelson played football at North Texas as I recall and his wife's family were good friends with my ex's (Cindy for you who knew her)) family out in the Marshall/Longview area. In fact, we got a very nice and thoughtful wedding gift from Tommy's in-laws as I recall. I remember when Denton Bible started out at the old Cumberland Presbyterian Church off Welch Street. Seems they have grown quite impressively since they left that spot. ................................................................................................. #12
