  1. $50M per year vs $20M per year will make schools do a lot of things to get out of ACC jail.
  2. 5 years is the common length of a coaching contract. We didn't (don't) have the $$ to fire early. Wren even kept Benford for his 5th year after he ruined the basketball program. Wren made another poor decision to extend Seth, that's all on him!
  3. Yes, similar deal to Wren's at WVU with their basketball coach.
  4. Those are way worse, but you're local, so it's like sibling rivalry. Plus, we're just protecting our turf here. You're the ones throwing cake at us here.
  5. Crazy ending. Seton Hall on late 9-0 run to win 79-77! NT is runner up!
  6. Tied up at 65 with 7 minutes left.
  7. The last 4 fired football coaches would like a word with you....
  8. I bet if you asked Rutgers they would do the same again to get into the Big 10. I thought they were low-hanging fruit for the Big 10 to want. I know they wanted the NYC market but Rutgers has always underwhelmed imo. Some schools would sell their souls and mothers to get into the P5. I won’t mention their Highland Park name.
  9. He seems like he has experience across several college sports entities and media networks. Very glad it’s not Judy!
  10. Stone was great in high school. Portal and JUCO players have already shown their ability at the college level.
  11. Like many of the remote location schools, more support because less options for entertainment. What else are you going to do in Lubbock, Texas or Greenville, NC other than watch and support college sports?
  12. Report: CFB 'Super League' to Replace NCAA, CFP Being Discussed by School Presidents "The current CST outline would create a system that would have the top 70 programs — all members of the five former major conferences, plus Notre Dame and new ACC member SMU — as permanent members and encompass all 130-plus FBS universities," Marchand and Mandel reported. "The perpetual members would be in seven 10-team divisions, joined by an eighth division of teams that would be promoted from the second tier." https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10115514-report-cfb-super-league-to-replace-ncaa-cfp-being-discussed-by-school-presidents?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial

It's not a new phenomenon. Whenever there is excess wealth... there is always $mut to follow.
  14. 1-1 in the 6th inning. Game on ESPN+
  15. We joke, but I believe we need our Phil Knight or Powerball donor in this new era of buy-a-player. It sucks until the programs agree on a salary cap and player contracts. Contracts will bind the players to a program for a set period, otherwise it's just always an open market. If it only comes down to most money wins, then all games and championships are basically meaningless.
  16. We needed some changes, just not sure it was this much change. But look at the pieces Ross brought in this season. Had we not gotten the injury bug we would have had 20 wins. That should be the bar every season.
  17. The great equalizer is that all programs seem to be doing roster makeovers after each season now, even the Georgia and Alabama types. Players either jump to bigger programs, or chase $$ at an equal or upper program, or change just to get more playing time. I doubt we ever see more elite athletes like Kenny Lyons, Joe Greene, Patrick Cobbs type players that spend their entire college career with NT... then continue to support the program after.
  18. This doesn’t really show much correlation between NIL and athletic success either. East Carolina, Charlotte, and Wichita all have large $$ numbers but not much success in my opinion. Btw, I hate NIL!
  19. We should drop HS recruiting in basketball. HS kids are too much risk if they will adapt to the college game (Matthew Stone). Kids already playing at the JUCO or college level (Jason Edwards) are more mature and you can evaluate their college-level game better.
  20. Yes, you would work to do your paid job and try to do it well. But the back of your mind would be on advancing your career and paycheck with your next job you will soon apply for. You would not be thinking of being a life-long fan of Georgia, visiting their message boards, nor going out of you job's way to support the other fans or school.
  21. Agree. Most Athletic department administrators, staff, and coaches are just here for the paycheck and building their resume then off to the next school...rah! Same for most professors and school admins. School traditions, history and artifacts mean little to them. Sadly, many school Athletes have become the same way now. The only long-time supporters and fans are usually ones that were fans while attending NT or area citizens that came for the game entertainment and formed a bond.
  22. We should always reload with JUCO players or Portal transfers over HS players. They are already acclimated to the college game and usually older and more mature. HS players are too much risk vs reward moving to DI.
  23. I never really thought about administrative people trying to derail their own entity until I tried to donate some NT athletic items many years ago to the department. I had too much stuff overall and some things I knew the department didn't have on display for fans to see, like 2 flying worm helmets, ticket and program to the Hayden Fry Tennessee football win, SLC Championship ring, etc. I talked with an asst or assoc AD back under RV, forgot his name now, and described some of what I had and showed him some of the more unique items. But he said they get things from estates or families they don't need or have space for. I said I wouldn't donate things if you're just going to trash them. He continued, when you die, we'll get them anyway. Your wife will bring all your NT items to us and most of it we'll have to get rid of. I was like shocked, that they didn't value some historic things, things that made the department and school what it had become athletically. They could easily auction excess or duplicate items to fans that might want them and raise $ for the department. Luckily I held back some items, and they used a few items in display cases in the hallway of the Suite Level of the new stadium back then. But most non-Suite fans can never see them up there if they don't have access. The one helmet I did leave them they have used in info about the Mean Green... https://meangreensports.com/news/2020/9/17/general-visual-history-of-the-flying-worm
