Given NIL and the portal, unlimited transfers etc I wonder if the new Chancellor and BOR will ultimately decide to reevaluate our funding towards athletics.  With the new rules we are basically a junior college or minor league team.  Why should we spend millions on facilities and whatnot?  SMU will never let is join the club, we have always been in their shadow and will continue to be with these new rules because of $$$.  I love UNT sports as much as the rest of you but the deck is really stacked against us now.

You realize a funding increase for Athletics from the BOR will not include NIL funds?   Those bribery funds have to come from donors or boosters outside the school.  $mut has over 40 years experience (and a death penalty) with paying players.

Our Athletic Department has always done little to inspire and cultivate our fan base and students.   Much of our Athletic growth was spurred by our location and school size.

Is that a bad thing?  That's what companies are in business for.

College players are not businesses, or they didn't used to be.  They were given an educational scholarship in exchange for playing for a specific school.

Then someone said the school (business) is making money by you playing for them; you should also get a cut of that.   I wonder if employees ever sued to get a cut of profits from their employers?  No, they work for contracted salary or pay and just go on strike (withhold service) when they want a better deal.  Maybe players could strike instead of Portal?

Anyway, I hear junior high kids now don't want just an 8th grade education for playing football....they want a share of school taxes taken in each year.

  3. You are confused.  Naming rights are for large Athletic donations made directly to a school.

A school cannot take a donation for NIL purposes nor give athletes money for NIL.   These are done now with 3rd party groups.  The NCAA wants to add rules to permit schools to take this over sometime in the future....maybe.

I usually have more respect for Texas Monthly's BBQ rankings, as I am a huge BBQ fan, but some of these locations are quite a ways from their schools.  I have not heard of Interstellar, and was in Austin last weekend (went to Franklin's).

Interstellar got paid more NIL so they have to be ranked higher...right?

Tangible ideas that will continue to move the AAC upward while also stating initiatives currently in action.

I think those will come in the future.  He really is just a figurehead for the Conference Presidents and ADs.  He may suggest something to them, but they have to sign off on actually doing something.

Next season will be fun. We’re going to learn a lot about Ross’ talent evaluation and what kind of team he wants. I’m excited in that regard.

Is this really that much different than JUCO level, where he had to remake the roster each year?

You don’t think Memphis basketball has a much better brand that the rest of the conference?

Memphis basketball has been in the media for a lot of things, not always good things....

Memphis will be fined $5,000 plus 0.25% of its average men's basketball budget — based on the average of the program's last three total budgets. Probation starts Tuesday and runs to Sept. 26, 2025.Sep 27, 2022

Maybe it helps Hodge's relationship with these guys too. Like "he looks out for me the person"

Seriously?  That would be poor for Hodge's own career.

It would be like Bill Belichick to Tom Brady:  "Maybe go test the waters at Tampa Bay?".  lol

How could that possibly hurt Bill Belichick?
