  1. Odd..."memories" seems like a bad word to describe what has happened at Tavern over the years. Do I know eaglechick03?
  2. Oh and AJ...since apparantly you asked at the UTA game...some of us founders would LOVE to help you out with ideas. Hey, Cody!
  3. My all time favorite is the guy who replaced a fuse in his truck with a bullett...which of course overheated and discharged into his genitals. Just watch the 2006 movie called "The Darwin Awards" not bad...kinda corny, but kinda funny Its been my life long goal to win a Darwin...
  4. Whoa...I'm gonna go ahead and jump on board and say this is just an AWFUL idea. First...it shows a complete lack of imagination...lets be a little bit more creative. Second...UNT basketball games have a lot of families and kids. Blow up dolls would get a lot of alum with families angry at you very quickly...and when alum are upset they go to Rick and the Athletic Department...a group that has supported the Pit Crew since its inception...lets keep it that way. Show a bit more class and creativity.
  5. Ill give this a try: QB. Giovanni Vizza / Nathan Tune TB. Lance Dunbar / Micah Mosely OWR. Sam Dibrell / Sam Roberson OWR. Casey Fitzgerald / Breece Johnson SWR. Evan Fentriss / Dez Brigham SWR. 6. I'm not sure that the use of a forged bill is enough to remove one from the gene pool, as is required by the Darwin Awards. Fighting the urge to comment on last sentence...
  7. Even two may be out of reach if nights like last night continue...some of these middle tier SBC programs (MTSU, FAU, ASU) have to be better in December in order for the Belt to have a shot at two bids. Whats interesting to me is where they seeded WKU...11th...thats about where they used to seed Gonzaga when they were going undefeated in the WCC...I don't see WKU being able to do that so its a sign of growing respect for the Belt. CMJ's scenerio is about the only way we get multiple bids this year.
  8. Say what you want about the merits of national socialism, but atleast its an ethos.
  9. So what your saying is he really knows the game...an extension of the coach on the field...real cerebral...and perhaps he isn't the best athlete but he works harder than anyone else out there...first guy in the gym and the last guy out...brings his lunch pail everyday? We need more guys like that...
  10. Last night was a particularlly difficult night to stomach. It seems at this point we can consider UNT, UNO, WKU and USA as the teams to beat in the Sun Belt. I think your bottom tier will be UL-L, Troy and maybe Denver or UL-M. Its those middle of the road teams though, like these four who played last night, that can absolutly make or break a conference's RPI. The conferences we lost to last night: Big East, Atlantic Sun, Summit and the Ohio Valley...the SBC should be better than all, save the Big East. Winning games like this don't neccessarilly get you at-large bid consideration, but losing them can take that opportunity away. FAU - 66 UMKC - 77 - FAU's second leading scorer, Paul Graham III, did not make the road trip due to team violations and the Owls who are already struggling to find scoring fell to 1-5...and almost assuredly 1-6 when they match up with Kansas on Weds. Carlos Monroe continues to excel, scoring 26 and grabbing 13 rebounds for his third double double of the season. Jeff Parmer add 12 points up front. FIU - 69 South Florida - 77 - Kenneth White had his best game as a Golden Panther, putting up 15 points, but shot a mediocre 6-21 from the field. Three others chipped in double figures for FIU, but the Panthers allowed South Florida to shoot 54% from the field. ASU - 67 Murray State - 81 - Arkansas State finally got something of a balanced offensive effort, led of course by Adrian Banks 18, but Ryan Wedel added 11 and Yima Chia-Kur 10 in the loss. Murray State shot 55% from the field for the game, led by as many as 20 in the first half and held an 18 point advantage at the break. MTSU - 62 Belmont - 85 - MTSU gave up 51 first half points and fell to 2-4. Center Theryn Hudson led the Raiders with 15, Kevin Kanaskie added 14 and Demetrius Green 12. Five games tonight: UL-Monroe vs. Alcorn State Troy vs. Ole Miss Denver vs. Colorado UA-Little Rock vs. Rice UL-Lafayette vs. UAB Alcorn St is 0-3 and has lost their games by an average of 29 points...Ole Miss is undefeated and 2-0 vs. the Sun Belt...Best chance for a big upset could be Denver; Colorado is 3-2 but has a narrow victory against D-1Independent Savannah State at home...Rice sucks...UAB is 1-3 on the road as they travel to Lafayette
  11. you may be my new leader...that thing is great
  12. Official attendance was over 5000... ...just sayin'.
  13. Western Kentucky is the SMU of the Sun Belt. For those who don't know or care about basketball...they have a pretty strong tradition in the sport including a national championship...just ask ANY of their fans, they'll be sure to tell you about their "Heroes of the Hardwood." They feel vastly superior to the rest of the Sun Belt despite the fact they havn't won a conference title since 2003...and won't win one this year. Try visiting and posting on their board...it won't happen...while we and every other SBC and area schools allow, and actually encourage outside input and a bit of pot stirring...the WKU prefers to live in a world of self-congratulations. Now a provisional football program...its first year up from Division I-AA...thinks it has a set of nuts after "impressive" victories over Morehead State, West Virginia Tech and North Carolina Central...what a joke.
  14. FAU - 66 Cleveland State - 76 - FAU continues to struggle, falling to 1-4 last night. The Owls started their third different line-up in five games, and have had a hell of a time finding someone to compliment Carlos Monroe (23 points, 13 rebounds last night) and Paul Graham III (18 points). Rex Walters is putting his young team through a gauntlet in this early season as FAU travels to the Midwest this week for games at Missouri - Kansas City and then a game at Fogg Allen against Kansas...giving FAU 6 road games in their first 7 of the season. Three games tonight - FIU vs. South Florida - FIU is 2-0, but has beaten nobody of significance. USF beat FAU earlier in the year by 31 so this will be a good test for FIU. FIU has four players averaging double figures, and six others averaging atleast 4 points...led by center Russell Hicks (17.0ppg) and forward Alex Galindo (15.5ppg). MTSU vs. Belmont - In the past 2 games MTSU has beat a patsy by 43 and lost to a top 10 program by 69. Belmont is an enigma; they have wins at Cincinatti and Alabama...but double-digit losses at Bowling Green and Austin Peay. In an odd scheduling quark this is the first of 2 games against Belmont...the two match up again in 16 days. ASU vs. Murray State - ASU will look for back-to-back wins against the Ohio Valley against the Racers. Murray State matched up with WKU earlier in the season and lost by 24 so this should be a winnable game for the Indians (is that still right?). All of ASU's scoring has been Adrian Banks (22.5ppg) and Ryan Wedel (14.8ppg)...their third leading scorer, Yima Chia-Kur is averaging a mediocre 6 per contest.
  15. I dont know...Paul Quinn put up 130 something on Troy, by himself. Well I guess he was just playing against one guy too...
  16. I think there is no doubt there is more talent in this conference, top to bottom, then there has been in my lifetime...its now just a matter of teams putting together that talent for some nice OOC wins like tonight. Just some quick observations: UALR is still lacking a go to guy...but you have to love the balance and depth for a team to put up 63 points with nobody scoring double figures, 2 guys with 9, 3 others with 8. ASU finally gets its first win...and they got 9 each from forwards Shawn Morgan and Yima Chia-Kur, complimenting Adrian Banks (22) and Ryan Wedel (18). ASU's front court has done next to nothing to help Banks and Wedel so far...so signs of life in any form I'm sure are appreciated. I'm changing my coach of the year prediction from Joe Scott to Joe Pasternak at UNO...Tulane is a solid team, and this is a very nice win. Most intriguing is that UNO is winning without heaping all the load on McCalebb, he took just 11 shots from the field en route to a team high 18. James Parlow finally showed up with 10...and Ben Elias finally missed a shot, going 3-4 from the field...hes now 11-12 for the season. It could be very bad news for UNT and the rest of Belt if WKU gets continued production from freshman post D.J. Magley (6'10" 260). Magley scored 18 on 8-9 shooting in just 23 minutes...adding a consistant inside presence to that backcourt could be what puts WKU back on top. ULM has now lost games by 29, 18, 3, and 24. Coach Orlando Early must've read my advise and started just 3 guards last night, but was hurt by foul trouble to leading scorer Tony Hooper who played just 14 minutes. Troy trailed by as many as 27 before heating up in the second half. Troy has appearantly scrapped the flex-motion offense that I read before the season they would be going to, instead going back to their regular three point shooting fest...taking 34 and making 11 last night. Through 4 games (one OT session) Troy has taken 153 3 pointers, or just over 38 per game. Tonight: USA vs. Chattanooga
  17. You mentioned he played on the perimeter frequently and knocked down a couple of open jumpers...do you see him (especially if he doesn't put on significantly more weight) as more of a face-up, European style 3-4 combo rather than a traditional post. I guess what I'm asking is is he compitant enough on the perimeter to be effective there in D-1 basketball? If so I think I like this signing a lot more as he would create match-up problems for other Belt teams. Also, and I am saying this without having seen Knox play so please don't take it as a knock on him, but we were all praising Howerton's ability to get up and down the floor when he was in high school as well. Thanks for the info Buford!
  18. WKU - 71 Alaska-Anchorage - 67 - Courtney Lee dropped 28 to lead the Toppers past the host Seawolves, the 16th ranked division II program. WKU trailed by as many as 7 in the first half before pulling away late. Western Kentucky will match-up with Michigan tonight in a re-match of the opening round NCAA tournament game from 1989 where the Toppers gave the eventual national champion Wolverines all they could handle. Me, being a huge Big Blue fan won't be pulling for the Belt tonight. USA - 77 San Diego - 55 - Demetric Bennett ralied from his worst scoring performance of the season, scoring 28 for the second time in four games, and Dominic Tilford came off the bench to score a career high 19 to lead the Jags rout of the Toreros. A night after going 8-21 (38%) from the charity stripe, USA responded with much more acceptable 23-30 (78%), led by Bennett's 12-15. The Jags also shot 50% from the floor and out-rebounded the Toreros by 17. The Sun Belt is now 2-1 against the West Coast conference; both wins blowouts and the one loss by 3. USA will match-up with Chattanooga on Sunday. MTSU - 91 Tenn. Wesy. - 48 - Demetrius Green finally showed up for the Raiders, scoring 20 and Middle Tennesse atleast temporarilly righted the ship with a 43 point dismantling of the Bulldogs. MTSU shot a scorching 57% from the field and center Theryn Hudson was a rebound short of a double-double with 11 points, 9 boards. MTSU will match up with Belmont on Monday. Tonight - WKU vs. Michigan in the Great Alaska Shootout fourth place game. Troy vs. Georgia State UNO vs. Tulane UALR vs. La. Tech ULM vs. Ole Miss ASU vs. Eastern Illinois - UNO needs to keep its momentum alive as its now been six days since they upset NCST and they face an inner-city rival who is 3-0 including a six point win over Auburn...UALR has looked good so far and should continue against La. Tech...ULM has had a difficult schedule thus far (Kansas, Michigan St.) but that doesn't excuse a loss to SFA. Ole Miss is 3-0 including a win over USA. ULM may not be able to get a W, but they need a strong performance to rebuild some confidence. Troy and ASU should be able to pull out wins tonight.
  19. I want to say tap the breaks on UNO...but you don't just walk into Raleigh and get lucky and win. We have a lot of new pieces and it will take a while for them to gel...but when they do there is more talent on this team than I have seen on a UNT team since I've been a part of the program in 2001
  20. Typically they reference "close games" for teams like TAMCC or Jackson State or Monmouth...teams that play in the lower tier of conferences that are already relagated to 15 and 16 seeds...when they talk about Butler or Virginia Communwealth or Missouri St they talk wins. I think the Sun Belt is right in between there, a mid-mid-major...and to get to where this conference should be, a Missouri Valley, an Atlantic 10 or a West Coast I think the language and the expectations need to be raised. No doubt it was a strong showing for WKU...and USA fought through a tough night and nearly beat a good team as well...but this conference should be pulling 12 and 13 seeds and in order to do that these teams need to get wins in these games...not just strong showings. Had this been Troy or Denver playing Gonzaga this tight I'd be elated...WKU needed this win.
  21. This thread needs to go. Last week we posted some tidbits from the Okie State board and how they were complaining about playing us in Denton...and how they would've won had the game been in Stillwater and we were laughing at them and their lame excuses. How the hell does this look? It wasn't the stage that beat us...it was UTA...again. Say what you want about Dennis being out, or missed opportunities, or god-forbid poor officiating...its a loss. Last season's loss to UTA made us better...so will this one. Calvin Watson was a complimentary player last year until Kendrick broke his hand...K.D.'s absence forced Calvin to step up and he responded and he will now be rembebered as one of UNT's greatest players by many of us. This year we have 6 talented guards...5 of who didn't play here last season...trying to learn a new system and adjust to a higher-level of compition. This loss will build charcter and roles will become more defined. I would rather lose this game than go to UT undefeated...I still think we match up well with the Horns and could sneak out a victory...but this loss just needs to serve as a reminder to JJ, the players and the fans that there is still A LOT of work yet to be done to get this team where we all know it should be.
  22. USA - 59 Miami (OH) - 64 - South Alabama falls to 2-2 after giving up 25 second half points to Rehawk guard Michael Bramos...and shooting a dismal 8 of 21 (38%) from the free throw line in the opening round of the Anaheim Classic. USA shot 47% from the field, led by Brandon Davis' 13 points...but free throw shooting killed the Jags as post Ronald Coleman went 3-10, Davis went 1-3 and guard Daon Merritt buoyed their percentage with a mediocre 4-8. USA's leading scorer, Demetric Bennett also struggled, shooting 3-14 from the field and finishing with a season low 8 points. South Alabama will match up with San Diego tonight in another SBC-WCC matchup. WKU - 71 #14. Gonzaga - 74 - The opportunity was there and WKU just couldn't quite seize it. The Toppers caught the Zags on an off night and had a chance to make a huge statement for themselves and the conference and it slipped away on a Robert Sacre put-back with 22 seconds remaining. Western was anchored by Courtney Lee's 19 and A.J. Slaughter's 13. Gonzaga distanced themselves late, even without the services of Austin Daye and Abdullahi Kuso, who both fouled out. WKU will match-up with host school Alaska-Anchorage tonight. In addition to WKU and USA, Middle Tennessee will try to lick its wounds tonight against Tennessee Wesylan...for those who forgot, MTSU is fresh off of a 69 point dismantling at the hands of Tennessee and will really need a win heading into a very difficult stretch of their schedule.
  23. Take our loss last night for what it was: a road game against an experienced team, an off night shooting without our best shooter, our inexperience showing...and things aren't that bad. Take UL-Monroe's loss for what it was: a road game against a team whose only loss came at Texas Tech and returns four starters. Put them together on the same night...and man this just kills Sun Belt credibility...especially considering these are supposed to be two of the elite SBC teams. UNT - 64 UTA - 72 - Most of you were either at the game or saw it...I did neither so most know better than I why we lost. I am, and will continue to be a big Ben Bell fan...I feel he needs to be on the floor, he was second on the team in rebounds last night, but I'm not liking his role this season. JJ seems to be playing him in an off-guard role as evidenced by his 12 shots tonight. Josh White has yet to have a favorable assist:turnover ratio and thats got to improve. 67% free throw shooting isnt terrible...but how did we only get 9 free throw attempts? ULM - 68 SFA - 71 - Orlando Early may want to consider scrapping the four guard line up for a while when a 6'5" 215 pound freshman pulls down 16 rebounds like Nick Shaw did last night for the Lumberjacks. Tony Hooper continues his solid play for Monroe, scoring 23 on 50% shooting, but his backcourt mates have yet to find the touch they had last season. Jonas Brown and Jordan Payne both went 3-12 from the floor; Payne did get to the line 9 times and was perfect at the stripe and finished with 15. This is a bad showing for a conference who already has wins against the ACC, Big 12, Mountain West, and West Coast Conferences...and a couple of strong showings against the SEC (not MTSU). On a positive note: FIU improves to 2-0 with their 83-74 win over Kennesaw State. Alex Galindo had a double double with 16 points, 12 rebounds, post Russell hicks added 18 and FIU got 31 points from its bench in the victory. A couple of important SBC games tonight: Western Kentucky vs. Gonzaga - WKU talks a big game...now do something to back it up...a win would do wonders for our conference...and give temporary credibility to the constant WKU bitching about how they're mirred in a lousy conference...atleast until they bow out in the tourney semi-finals. South Alabama vs. Miami (OH) - Miami (OH) is 1-0 with a two point win over Xavier, and fresh off an NCAA tourney appearance after they banked home a winning three last year in the MAC championship. 2-0 tonight would go a long way...go Toppers, go Jags!
  24. Second string is about where she belongs...she would think she deserves to be starting though and would just prove to be a cancer in the locker room
