  1. Phil, I have a feeling you would bring a bazooka to a knife fight.
  2. My perception of how things are today is that most recruitment is done electronically. I could be wrong but, I don't think you fly/drive out to make the initial contact with recruits any longer.......especially in the case of a recruit from out of state. To me, relationships with HS coaches and trusting their assessment of players, is a big plus. Also, I tend to think that Zoom has the potential to be somewhat of an equalizer in recruiting.
  3. I made the huge mistake of watching the Texas/Oklahoma game before switching over to the NT/Navy game. It was depressing and disheartening. The level of raw talent and intensity of play between UT and OU was astounding. Even keeping in mind that those two teams have been going at it for over 100 years and nothing short of all-out effort is allowed by any player that steps out on the field. I won't even talk about some of the freaks of nature that were playing on both teams lines.....mostly notably the 360lb D-lineman from Texas who was able to leap up in the air and get a piece of a pass thrown by the OU QB. In the case of both defenses their intensity reminded me of a quote supposedly attributed to Bear Bryant who was describing his star LB Leroy Jordan....."Leroy always took it real personal when anyone came toward him with a football under their arms" And then I switched over to the NT/Navy game. After watching for about a quarter, I couldn't believe what I was watching from our defense.....who at one time earned the nickname "Mean Green". The best way to describe their type/level of play Saturday is to go back in history to the plains Indians and one of their battle traditions......"counting coup".... Counting coup - Wikipedia
  4. Sadly, an old story. This is what happened to a (IMHO) very talented QB prospect from my hometown who Coach Rust told me was being groomed to replace Steve Ramsey.
  5. An FCS game is also an opportunity to put some new players out there to see how they perform in a game situation rather than a practice situation. The attendance was due to it being "family day". The deadness of the crowd is probably due to the new family members in attendance not knowing any of the North Texas spirit traditions........Oh wait! maybe they do.,,🥺
  6. Well, it's all academic since punt returns only happen after a defensive stop....usually pretty deep in their own territory. How often has that happened so far?
  7. that 39 yard catch and run he made while breaking at least three tackles looked like it could have been a punt return to me.
  8. You mean like all of the bowl games that we lost with Fine at QB? Three of the FIU games where we got our butts kicked. That La Tech game we lost after going undefeated leading into the game and blowing it in front of probably the largest crowd of the year......or for a long time. Going 4-8 in 2019....losing the last three games of that year. I could go on and on. Sorry Phil. But when we played teams with outstanding defenses, we almost always lost......even when running up good passing stats. Proportionally, we brought in just as many fans when we were having good years in 1-AA. In fact our first sell-out EVER at Fouts was against SFA in the late 80's. According to the people who regularly sneer at our 1-AA days they didn't care that we were 1-AA. Someone promoted the game to them and they came in (proportionately) record numbers.
  9. My observation last night was that neither of our lines were doing a very good job. Our DL got handled and just generally pushed around (lots of running yards up the middle). And our OL did not push their DL around too much. When it came to going purely up the middle. We didn't do very well.
  10. Let me just add to the comment about Landon Sides. I believe that there was a post about his signing with North Texas a few months ago. After listing all of the things that he did on the field, UNTLIFER beat me to the punch by saying that he sounds like a certain former player Michael Lawrence....something that I immediately agreed with. After observing him last night, I think Mr. Sides is at a slightly higher level. I remember going to a fall practice with FFR back in 2010. One of the new players out there was a receiver that I had never heard of but by the end of practice I was very impressed. It was Breland Chancellor. FFR struck up a conversation with the young coach in charge of WR's and special teams, and toward the end of the conversation I asked about Chancellor. The coach acknowledged that he was a talented player, but they would probably redshirt him. I just smiled at the coach and said "Coach, I don't see how you are going to keep him off the field this year....he's too talented". I am going to repeat that assessment for this young man. They used him to great advantage last night. If I were in charge, the next thing I would do is put him out there returning punts.
  11. (I realize that this response will be moved to another form, but I just couldn't help myself.) And we just finished another (almost) record hot summer. All of us in the metroplex watched our local news stations broadcast warnings from the people/clowns in charge of our electrical grid to please cut back on our electrical use lest we have rolling blackouts. And then we get to watch the weather reports that show us that we are in the middle of a severe drought and that very severe water restrictions are on the way. Where the hell is the electricity coming from, and where the hell is the water coming from so that all those developments, (too numerous to list here), are not going to overwhelm our systems like the tsunami that hit Japan back in 2011?
  12. Hmmm, I suppose that everyone thought that about the original "white Flight" school district...Plano. Who is now losing student population....Plano ISD considering closing schools as student enrollment declines (fox4news.com)
  13. Way to violent for a retired Air Force General? Wasn't the Viet Nam era B-52 bombing wing's motto "Death from Above"? If this is true, the late Curtis Lemay would have been very embarrassed by him. Curtis Lemay was the Army Air Corp's version of General Patton......only a little more crazy.
  14. Hmmm, so when North Texas Played NMSU in the 1959 "Sun Bowl" game, in what stadium did they play it?
  15. Make the glaring Eagle larger and make the Mean Green smaller and just below him......or lose it altogether. The glaring look on his face and the NT on his chest says it all.
  16. Good ol' Kurtwood Smith. There was never any lack of dumbass behavior going on in the 70's show, so he got to say that a lot. I would love to have a cardboard fan on a stick that had "Red's" face on it. And boldly printed along the bottom would be DUMBASS! I would carry it in my car and hold it up when the occasion called for it.......which unfortunately would be a lot. Maybe I could get some fans like that printed with the original Scrappy on it (mainly featuring his face) and the same message across the bottom. Instead of booing bad/poor play the fans could just hold up their Scrappy Fans.
  17. This image first appeared during the Corkey Nelson era. If they had ever produced shirts with this image, I would have bought one.
  18. Abolish a revenue position? Are you against acquiring and managing revenue for the athletic department?
  19. Maybe it could be better, but it is absolutely the best we've ever had.
  20. Plus, that is the most un-Eppy looking Eagle I've ever seen. THIS is what the hippy-dippy committee that changed the mascot name had in mind. THIS is Eppy. This......is the original Scrappy AND this is son of scrappy The original has a "dad bod", but both of them have a look that says "you don't want to mess with me".
  21. Drone show? I hope we're not talking about military drones.
  22. Did you intentionally choose a North Texas graduate for your video response?
