  1. Now if someone will just tell us that a DT like Michael Pruitt or Evan Cardwell has transferred to North Texas.........
  2. I've never seen a program bring in a Juco kicker (I'm sure someone will bring up an example ........however obscure it might be), but I've seen programs regularly replaced their kickers with walk-ons during spring practice. I'm more interested in bringing in an "impact" (double entendre intended) mid-term JUCO D-man...or two if possible. As well as some JUCO beef in the OL. I have no idea why we have someone on our roster that is listed as a 6'2" X 244 O-lineman. And while I'm at it, I don't know why we have a 5'11" X 267 O-lineman on or roster.
  3. I think this sentence bothered me more than anything in this whole debacle. NO season ticket holding fan (unless they have committed a crime) should EVER be WORRIED during a conversation with ANY athletic department official. Especially at North Texas. Let me remind everyone that WE ARE THE CUSTOMERS HERE. WE ARE THE ONES WHO WILL STILL BE COMING BACK TO ATHLETIC EVENTS LOOOOOONG AFTER MOST OF THOSE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES HAVE MOVED ON. What "I" would have expected to hear from RV was this..... "I've done some preliminary investigating in this matter and now I would like to hear from you on this". If I had heard anything different, I would have been totally pi$$ed. My next call would have been to either Dr. Pohl and/or Bobby Ray. If George Dunham thinks that STH is a "disease" then he must never have witnessed the real disease that, for years, turned that section of the stands into what I used to call "The Day of the Living Dead".
  4. 40 -28 (La. Tech) the final. La. Tech may go to a bowl game. http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/n.../s220242S79.DTL
  5. Why is the head football coach's contract excluded from this new rule?
  6. and now..........do we have a M.G.R.N/gate situation brewing as described on KTCK 1310 "The Ticket" just days ago? Stay tuned!
  7. A different opinion. http://www.ntdaily.com/vnews/display.v/ART...1/438eafe18dcf8
  8. Rice could still have football, just not D-1 football. I believe that all of the Ivy League schools maintain their "really college" atmosphere by playing 1-AA football. Rice could do the same.
  9. Hearing it from an ex-player just made it more difficult for DD to deny that he writes-off the OCC games. Does this bother me? Surely you jest. I graduated from North Texas when we pulled off wins against Tennessee and Houston (the year before Houston won their first SWC title). During the same era, we had wins over Okla St., Memphis, a nationally ranked San Diego St., SMU etc...... Why do you think I refer to our SBC championships as being "King of the Dip$hits"? My son (also a NT graduate) commented to me recently about that issue. "Well Dad, it's one thing to go to the lowest ranked bowl four times. It's worse to lose three out of four of them". BTW the NO bowl counts as OCC games.
  10. If we want ANY JUCO to have an immediate impact in the fall, we need to get them at mid-term and have them practicing in the spring. Otherwise, we'll be waiting until the fourth or fifth game before they start making a noticable contribution. That would be especially true of a Juco QB.
  11. I'm just curious. Why was DD given such a long extension on his contract when there were not ANY schools trying to hire him away from us. Four straight bowl games, and a 26 game conference winning streak and the "coaching market place" was still not impressed? What sort of degrees do the members of our BOR have anyway? BTW, the last head coach that was hired away from North Texas was Jerry Moore.
  12. Are you saying that back in the 80's and early 90's Texas wasn't much better than a 1-AA program?
  13. Here is the problem that I have with people who say that we are not even in the same universe with Texas, or most other schools like them. And that we should have more "realistic expectations". 1976 Texas 17 UNT 14 (D-1 program) 1978 Texas 26 UNT 16 (D-1 program) 1981 Texas 23 UNT 10 (D-1 program) 1983 Texas 26 UNT 6 (1-AA program) 1988 Texas 27 UNT 24 (1-AA program) 1992 Texas 33 UNT 15 (1-AA program) 2002 Texas 27 UNT 0 (D-1 program) 2004 Texas 65 UNT 0 (D-1 program) Hayden Fry said that we could compete with ANYONE, and then went out and proved it. Corky Nelson seemed to have the same attitude, but he wasn't as "Zig Zigler"(sp?) about it as Hayden was. Would someone please explain what happened to a fairly competitive series that we have had with Texas? Hell, we were more competitive with them when we were 1-AA! What the hell has happened?
  14. If you're going to e-mail Academy, you need to "cc" the athletic department, so that they know that you're unhappy with the lack of marketing for North Texas products.
  15. "Fulmer normally receives a raise and extension each year, but won't get one this time, athletic director Mike Hamilton said. Fulmer got only a one-year extension after finishing the 2002 season 8-5, his worst record until this year. "I think you base pay increases on substantially successful years," Hamilton told The Associated Press." Hmmm, now there's an interesting concept. I wonder if RV has been empowered to do something similar.
  16. That wasn't very smart of T.J., for two reasons. He might have had some hopes of getting lucky sometime. But more importantly, every one of those dancers can kick higher than his head. Ooops! You said the MTSU dance team. Ok forget the "getting lucky" part, but the "high kick" part still applies.
  17. Also, Arkansas used to be part of the Red Wolf's turf.
  18. Rice is in CUSA. They may have one more loss than us, but at least their conferences losses were against competition that's a bit more highly regarded than our SunBelt competition.
  19. You mean there's someone at the games more obnoxious than me? I guess I need to go into training during the off-season.
  20. Well then, let me move my comments from another thread to this one. Just some thoughts about some points being made in various threads. "Dickey has earned the right, by virtue of the four SBC championships, to have more time to right the ship" Right the ship to where? Back to being "King of the dip$hits" and losing most of our OCC games? "Jim McIngvale(sp?) will withdraw his support if Dickey is Fired." I'm curious. Would "Mattress Mac" tolerate his sales manager having the same sales record as Dickey's overall win/loss record? I tend to think not. So, I have to wonder why such a successful man is so enamoured with a Coach that has such a ordinary football record. I really am curious about this, because Mr. M. played under a very dynamic coach, and Mr. M. himself is a very dynamic business man. Also, one of the things that often happens when someone steps forward to make a big donation to a program is that other "big doners" will often follow suit. Has Mr. M. noticed by now that he seems to be the only person in the "big donor" parade? I make this last observation because of Bobby Ray's comment to "Huff's" question regarding the progress of getting a new stadium built. His answer? "nowhere". So obviously other potential "big donors" don't have the same assessment of Dickey's football program (or it's potential) that Mr. M. seems to have.

  22. It wouldn't matter if we got Adrian Peterson to play with JT in the backfield if we don't get some OL TO BLOCK FOR THEM! And while we're at it, some DL's to keep our opponents from scoring so many points on us. Because, as good as JT is, a running offense is not a good "catch up" offense. And as long as DD is our coach, we are NOT going to have any sort of offense that plays "catch up" very well.
