We've brought in two D linemen & two LBs & too many DBs. Look at the current verbals for '24. How many D linemen??? It's been proven at every level, you win with Defense. Why does this get overlooked for so many years?

Patterson wouldn't put his name on this defense in a million years.
He's got a freaking statue in FW, he doesn't need this headache. -Besides, his ego is bigger than his statue & there's not enough money in Denton to get him north of Joe T. Garcia's.

not gonna lie, we look pretty small on both the O and D lines. that has me worried a bit
That's shocking how small the defense is.

If Neal would have let RV hire Meacham, we'd be on year 3 with Joey McGwire.

I've really enjoyed watching DeAndre compete. I think he's comparable to Erric Pegram.

Again, then why didn’t we go out and get more transfer help this past offseason? Why were the ones we did get in here largely ineffective?
We’re bringing in a bunch of guys who P5 coaches thought could play at the P5 level, and our defense is playing at an FCS level. Sounds like a development issue to me. Coaches don’t get to just sit there and say “welp, none of my guys can play. Not my fault we’re the 3rd worst defense in the nation.”
As to why they didn't get transfer help? I don't know. Maybe they tried, maybe they thought they had the horses in the barn. My observation is that this staff isn't committed to Defense. Are they committed to passing numbers & touchdown passes? Absolutely. That's the identity they sell. I don't know what they sell on D.
I'm not saying there's not a developmental component in the reason they're historically terrible, but when I see other defenses we play, I have a hard time saying "Our starter is better than theirs."

We also have a lot of guys who were very highly recruited out of high school. I get that being highly recruited out of high school doesn’t mean you’re going to have a successful college career, but we have a lot of players in each position group to choose from who had big offer lists out of high school, yet our defense looks like an FCS defense. By my count we had 6 guys in our secondary this season who had offers from P5 schools when we got them. We can’t get 2 or 3 of those guys to be solid G5 players? Seems like a development issue or putting players in poor position to succeed.
OR... They just aren't good enough. Outside of Novil, that side of the ball can't play. The sample size is large enough.

I’d take Kaydon Kirby over Fortenberry.
2015:
• Named to the Remington and Lombardi Award watch lists
• Played in and started 10 games at center, before suffering an injury against Tennessee
• Dating back to his redshirt freshman season, he had started 35 straight games at center
2014:
• Started all 12 games and has started 25 straight games at center
• The Mean Green rushed for over 200 yards on three different occasions in 2014
• The Mean Green ran for 21 touchdowns in 2014, which is tied for the eighth most in school history.2013:
• Named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team after starting all 13 games at center
• Was part of an offensive line that has allowed only 11 sacks on the season and the fewest sacks in the nation with 17 over the last two years
• Paved the way for Brandin Byrd to rush for over 1,000 yards
• Was part of a record-breaking offense that has set a school record for total yards in a season with 5,336
• First freshman to start every game at center since Andy Brewster in 20012012:
• Redshirted- 1

I am perfectly fine with that. But this line is a bunch of guys who had very few, if any, other FBS offers. And we don’t exactly have stud recruits backing them up. This year we sort of picked up the o-line recruiting but those dudes are unlikely to be upgrades as true freshmen next year.
Yup.
Other than Novil, I wouldn’t give a bag of beans for both lines next year.

New stadium, fourth year coach, new IPF?
Same D line recruiting. Look at the last 2 classes & tell me where the help is coming from. Blame the DC, blame the whole damn staff. They have proven they can’t bring in front seven talent. Won’t get better anytime soon.
But hey we’ve got 18 WRs.

I understand the staff was counting on the K-State transfer but after four years this position group has been abandoned.
No chance at the CUSA title if this group isn't better than S. Miss & LA Tech. Take a look at the Southern Miss roster. If we had that size I'd be fine with 18 WRs.

There's no commitment here to recruit size on the lines of scrimmage.
The D line rotation is too small. The LBs are too small. The O line is average on their good days.
The team who wins CUSA will have the best line play.
