  3. I watch twitter and saw Travis Garrett...an athlete written about in the DMN as an outstanding athlete post about talking to Coach Poore(from Minnesota Gophers). I just think he is an example of a kid we need to recruit hard because he is from the area and UNT can build a strong relationship with him. I don't think UNT has reached out to him but I could be wrong. We have a new stadium and new selling/recruiting tools to utilize....lets go build a dynasty. Put the pieces of the game into play early. Sorry about the post when I copied and pasted I didn't realize how it pasted on here. Hope this clears it up. Got to run but will talk later tonight. Crazy schedulae right now.
  4. Time will tell but I think the coaches have some serious issues getting talent and reading the players. I also think that someone needs to look inside the organization and find a common link that is self destructive to this football program. Where there is smoke there is usually fire and I don't think that all the good guys that feed Mac his information are good. I smell a rat that controls behind the spotlight... Glad I had some time to check back in as I always find the fellow members of my alumni very intelligent and interesting!!
  5. Happens every year. Twists and turns at the final stretch. There is motivation for dishonesty and manipulation at every level of the signing game. I can remember when the only dirty game was played in the rain on a grass field.
  6. just a slip up or did they get so overconfident that didn't think they could be touched.
  7. Good looking player is an understatement. Jordan controls the field and ball with ease. He doesn't change or hesitate in the red zone and uses multiple receivers. Has the height needed at this level of play. Great find Harry
  8. indifferent as long as if we meet 'em we beat 'em.
  9. Lifer...old school recruiter/scout. Virginia, Texas, LA and OK history. I am UNT alumni and kick back and relax on here when time permits. Pilot point kid sparked an interest. You only truly remember a select amount and he was an x factor ball player that hasn't broken out.He got some bad life/death in his family...it happens. About flipped when I heard he was walking on here...my mean green. This kid has a factor to raise the bar even if he just makes the scout team originally. Watch him closely because these coaches got a steal. He blows up in competition. Wicked pass rusher and a missle for the ball carrier....relentless
  10. Emmitt01...so ture. There is a very thin line between love and hate. It is when someone becomes indifferent that you know you lost them.
  11. I may not be wiser but early races are used in the game with verbals. It is not where you start but where you finish on signing day. To throw my opinion in....I believe that the coaches feel like if they can land some known recruits and bring them in then they will hold more weight when they go after any of these top 100 in the area.
  12. I would tend to agree with you that ESPN does the best job overall but disagree about 24/7 being any different than Rivals...except they were new and spent more time evaluating and verifying facts...to some extent they hand selected the bigger names and helped them join their program. Technology is good for accessing film and I mean full game film. Looking at the calibur of player at the end of the game with the same critique is important, in my opinion. Another important thing that Highlight film does not show a recruiter is the ability for players to get the job done in the red zone. In my opinion, their are talented QB as example that can't mentally finish the job when it counts. When recruiters/scouts are at games they are able to read the whole picture and must depend on a sixth sense and ability to read a player. I am old school though and you would be surprised at the amount of recruits that DO NOT have an honest evaluation by D1 programs. Technology is fast and spreads like wild fire and noone wants to miss their opportunity to get a verbal....all I am saying is at what expense? I look around, and that includes UNT and overrated players and personal favors or personal agendas that are present. Look at the players that came with lots of HYPE and inaccurate stats and ask yourself...how did they get here? Just because an athlete is a son of a coach or given stats on rivals or scout or 24/7 for that matter does NOT make him a true ball player that gets the job done. I have seen coaches sell out other quality players to get their kids into programs. Believe me it happens.
  13. I like this guy better for OL than DL. Would like to see quicker footwork and lower body control, Also noticed doesn't finish plays...may be a conditioning issue.
  14. Henderson State has some gung ho recruiters and sells their program well. It is funny how relationships can sway an athlete. Think qualifying issues shouldn't come into play this late in the game but sliding scale can change everything on official certification. Wish him well.
  15. 2 years ago I went to several. I was working as a recruiter in Virginia. Focusing on some players in the area. Love that program...you feel the hunger and the tradition
  16. I agree. Have enjoyed their program and hospitality through the years and think it would be great to have them in Denton.
  17. I couldn't agree with you more. Have seen this guy play and he brings an X factor onto the field with him that fills the line with an energy felt by the fans. Could be very interesting to see if he can transition to LB but would like to see him on the pass rush even at his smaller size. He is an athlete that doesn't fit perfectly on paper but performs on the field.
  18. Couldn't agree more...twitter is the official new 'press release' lol
  19. SELU has a great program and coaching staff. Davis should be very productive there. The coaches are hungry to win and have turned the program around in 2 seasons. Coach Roberts and Franks have worked together and had a history of winning. They choose players carefully and do recruit for years, building relationships and teams. Franks has followed Accettura (the athlete that transfered in this Spring DL that is transitioning positions to LB/FB) and stood behind Accettura up to this season when he chose to stay close to home and attend UNT. The coaches are also looking at several more local talented athletes and offers should be coming soon. Texas and LA are competitive and both will benefit and have losses across the board. I wish Davis the best. GMG
  20. Not talking about UNT but the system as a whole. Recruiters cut corners using the internet technology and as the race for stars...literally stars **** represent how good a recruiter is(equals job security). I think that the person recruiting is selling out by subconsciously using someone else's opinion because it is "out there on the web". When is the last time you heard about true differing opinions concerning a recruit? Who has stepped out to say that I am not on that train ride and like player x for our program. I am talking about truly questioning the published word and evaluating a player based on the experience of the recruiter. Recruits in today's market are looking for that 1 rival or scout connection and 1 offer(many times based off that marketing connection and star count) and then a domino affect occurs. Communication is by emails and internet and offers come early. No it is not every recruit but it is becoming the rule instead of the exception in my opinion. I am just saying as scouts cut corners that the results are showing in quality, reliability and wins. The puzzles are not completed percisely but shoved into the game.
  21. Just thought I would pick your brains on the subject of recruiting in today's world. Just my opinion but where have all the real scouts and recruiters gone? Football programs are in such a hurry to land an internet based recruit that has more stars on a web page than the next guy that programs at all levels are scrambling year to year when the "talent" doesn't pan out. I look at the "grey shirts" and non-productive players and it makes me angry. It is not the athletes fault as they are kids playing the recruiting game and using the instant and wide spread technology available to them. Who is actually vetting the process....laying eyes on the talent in person...looking these athletes in the eye...questioning the "combine and showcase results" instead of relying on rivals and scout to plaster stars on a website. I wonder if recruiters want job security in an unstable field and it causes them to "trust" others opinions and insights above questioning their own intincts and needs in a program?? Teams are built by placing strategic pieces to a puzzle in place and that takes truly knowing a player and how they produce on the field....NOT on paper. Hitting, reading plays, instinct, discipline and passion.....example: difference between combine fast and football fast. Year after year it gets worse as recruits, stars and program rankings are decided on political and marketing strategy. Going to games and practices instead of watching youtube and "I'm perfect highlight films". Scouts used to go to war in the trenches to read and evaluate players.....we have a world gone mad that has been consumed by the facade of fast, instant, glammoring technology. I just wonder if we went back to the basics and used our own intelligent opinions and gut insticts based on experience... to hand select players if we could build a strong program and possible dynasty of the future. I must have poured sour milk in my cheerios this morning....but seriously think the system is selling out. I am probably just hitting my head against a brink wall...
  22. Agree. Lets see who emerges from walk on also. Maybe some defensive help will come to play
  23. 2400 with written...1600 is base math and comp. Talking about Swanner because Accettura is a soph with 3.0 pre law. Wish accettura taller because he is a heck of a pass rusher as DE Swanner will do fantastic in the Army
