That false story of them playing for free has no merit. They are getting college and living expenses in trade for their efforts on the field. To sit out is a selfish act period. IF they are at a level they “should” sit out, then they are part of the bigger game plan. This act effects the level of talent on the field. This tells their teammates, sirrybguys, I have to take care of myself, yournon your own. Will they do that at the next level as well?  We are lot in the playoffs, I have a new contract coming up,so I am not going to play the rest of the year?  What about the fans who paid big money to see their favorite player in the 1 game they can afford to go see, but he decided not to play?

They're underpaid, plain and simple. Their job is to play football and if they want to sit out a game because of law of diminishing return, what ER or EE wouldn't skip that game.  What about the fans, the fans should be upset with the system that makes players want to sit out because the current process is broken. The NCAA makes too much money for players to be put in this situation. Don't get upset with the players, these are 18-22 year old kids who have more riding on their future than the selfish fan who gets some bragging rights because their team won.

Sure..and probably shouldn't have played those 12 regular season games either. You know...might have gotten hurt.  Nothing says teammate like sitting out because "I might get hurt" and the rest of you guys don't matter. Just show me the money. Looks like there is an "I" in team after all.

This is a terrible analogy. Students spend years preparing for the NFL, not just 12 games. If there wasn't millions of dollars on the line, this would be a different story but that's not the case. Or better yet, how many of y'all would go to work for free because you want to help the company make more money? Please, just stop. Athletics is a business, everyone is making sure they're covering their own ass because no one else will save them.

Big fat YAWN from me.  You signing a scholarship right? Free school? Ok cool you'll be playing for ______ UNIVERSITY until our season is over. If not, go ahead and stay home (no bowl trip for you) oh and you owe us for the final semester you were with us.  Here's the bill.

I thought college was to prepare you for your future not force you to make decisions based on capital gain for the University...

Who could blame SL and WB if they see the student body reject the idea of increasing a fee that is still well under what UTSA and Texas State charge their students, even after it passed?

It would basically confirm to anyone with a brain that the UNT Culture still loathes athletics here.

You are the most negative person I've met.  I havent been on this board in months and maybe even and year and you still have nothing else better to do than complain on a message board...

If you're gonna go that route, why should schools even sponsor teams? The costs are huge and it has to get paid for by dollars that can be used on research and education. But the citizens love sports and love teams sponsored by their districts, colleges, and cities. Its always been this way and always will be this way until the cost doesn't justify the revenue and interest it generates.

Its why teachers are amongst the lowest paid people and athletes/coaches/entertainer are the most paid. Nobody wants to go watch chemistry being taught but they want to watch games and concerts. Its the escape from the mundane. And it costs money. In college athletics, a lot of the burden falls on the students thru tuition. Its not like it isn't known. Hell, at UNT we pay half of what stalwarts like Texas State and UTSA pay for an athletics fee--and their students didn't get a say in that. Ours shouldn't either.

    No, you're completely off topic.

we as tax payers vote "yes" to raise taxes all the time to pay for schools. city improvements, stadiums, etc....

If you think spending $40-60m for high school stadiums an efficient use of tax payers dollars, then vote for it. But increasing tuition isn't in the best interest of the students long term financial health.

Increasing taxes is easy, but the best increase efficiency by using what they have and find new ways to bring in revenue without putting that burden on someone else.

  7. So would everyone here vote "Yes" for increasing federal taxes, property taxes or creating a state tax? Students shouldnt pay more for athletics. I think everyone can agree that tuition is way too much and putting more debt on college students isnt the best solution for the students long term success.  Just like no one wants to increase their taxes. $51 a semester sounds cheap now but lets add some interest over 10-20 years to that since most college students take out loans to pay for school.

  8. “Generally speaking, mid-season coaching changes – other than making some fans happy – do more harm than good,” Baker said. “Less than five percent of coaching changes are made mid-season. It’s more destructive the constructive. It rarely greatly changes the trajectory of a season.”

I guess he doesnt know about "Lock the Gate"  Firing TD and having Chico as the interm was better for the program.

it is so sad to go to the pit and watch a game and see so few people at the game.

It is what it is, that's what happens when you have 4 straight losing seasons. I've looked past the crowd support. I know me personally, I don't want to travel to Denton from Dallas because of the traffic on 35; aint nobody got time for that.  But more Denton locals should be able to support the team once they start winning again.

  10. I was pleasantly surprised how well we broadcast (stream) games compared to others in CUSA, we really have a great crew.  I had a great viewing experience watching the game on the TV.  I have the CUSA streaming package, I play it on my iPad and then use airplay to my Apple TV.

You cant get better than Dave and Hank. Dave really calls a great game and Hank transitioned into the color commentator role nicely.  I'd never thought I would have to compare TV crews but its not even close to how much better our TV crew is, some of those football games we watched were unwatchable.  Finally, I'm liking the in-game product.  The lights seem to only be on the court and the music seems to be better.

We all can freak out and think that SL is talking to someone else, but we have not heard 1 rumor that anyone would have any interest in him AT ALL....

I'm quite sure SL was on no ones radar when we were first looking for a HC.  I honestly didnt hear about him until @MeanGreenBreakdown tweeted about some random possibility and was like "who is Seth Littrell"  All everyone was talking about is current OC's that were in the area, nothing about some OC in Chapel Hill... Just like no one is talking about some coach in Denton, TX.

I honestly believe Eke has the best chance of moving on after the season. Tommy Mainord would be a close second. As for Seth the Tulsa job and Texas Tech scare me the most with him. As far as a Purdue or type of Job i don't see him being the type to making his family move across the country again unless it was a once in a life time type of opportunity. I wish he has enough of a Mike Leach Type of mind set that he wants to build something from the ground up and have stability. Because if not for craig james son i feel mike leach would still be rolling along in Lubbock. I could see Seth holding out to take over for Stoops at his alma mater. But even if he gets hired this year which i dont think is the case if i was betting. i have faith in wren and company that they would be able to keep on keeping on with the next hire! I honestly think next year is the year seth could land a big time offer. A huge senior class and in year two in seth offenses every where he has been is the year they make huge strides. not out of the relm of possibilities we could be in contention for cusa championship

I thought Mainord would actually one of the first coaches that will probably leave.  He's still on salary from UK, he's making around 275k and we're only paying him $75k.

Privacy laws and just plain "none of our business" create this sort of silence and the exact "whys" of this sort of thing.  This is not a "lack of communication".  This is "keeping it within the family" where I believe it belongs.  If there is an arrest for something like we have seen in the past, well, that is public record and you can find it if you so desire.  I firmly believe this in team discipline is none of my business...it is personal.  It could come out from a team member or other source one of these days, but really doesn't matter.  They are no longer a part of the Mean Green, and from what Coach L said last night on the radio show (at least my interpretation of his comments) we may never see them back.  I hope I am wrong and that they will serve their suspensions, make whatever apologies are necessary, learn from their mistakes and return next season.  Certainly remains to be seen.  But the "why" I chalk up to "none of my business" and move on to support the players who are currently on the roster.  Both names been removed from the roster I believe...so, could be a long farewell.

    Well said Kram!!
