  2. Frye is gone to Temple and Simmonds is in from South Florida. http://www.tampabay.com/sports/college/article1023962.ece
  3. The coaching staff will be grooming Thompson at QB next year. Riley could make a run at QB if they let him (doubt it). I'm a little confused on the wins at Houston & Indiana; those are "maybes" at best. Stick to our conference; that's where we'll see wins if we can put together a winning mentality. In any event, the defense will have to come up a good bit to win many games. Looking at last year; the final 5 games we were 2-3, but we probably could've won 2 of the lost 3 if Canales dictated the culture earlier in the season. This is going to be interesting and fun! THE KEY IS D!
  4. Actually, the O-Line starters for 11 won't be young or inexperienced. Johnson-C-Sr, Fortenberry-G-Jr, Feeley-G-Jr, Tomlinson-T-Sr, Leppo-C-Jr. All have had good playing time in different seasons except Leppo, I think. You might make a case to put Leppo at C, Johnson at G and move Fort or Feeley to T and you have an experienced line of 5 starters. Back-ups will be the question.
  5. UNT football has a nice base of starters going into 2011. However, we are losing some good starters too. Where do we need help most? Are JCs the answer for the respective lines? We need a mobile OT starter for sure and some back-ups for everyone on the O-line. D-line might need some JC help too. We seem to be solid at QB, RB, TE. What about WR, CB, S & LB? What else? I'm more concerned about 2011 than beyond. McCarney has to win with the group he has or recruits from JCs in 2011.
  6. Hard to say about Troy; he hasn't gotten any time in games, which means he hasn't had many reps at practice. The O-line coach is going to have to see promise and give him a shot. Reps in practice are what makes good young linemen grow into starters. Look at Fortenberry and Feeley; at the end of the year you didn't even notice a fall off in production. Dunbar had some great games. That's all about reps. Canales and Riley Dodge may have had some influence too.
  7. The only way the SB gets respect is by winning. If a SB team or two would win outside of the conference it would make a difference, but one team completely dominating the conference would do it too. Troy has quite a bit of respect everywhere because coaches and sportswriters know its hard to win consistently regardless of the conference in D1. The MAC, CUSA, Sunbelt, even the MW, WAC & Big East are considered wimpy, so now is the chance of a lifetime to make UNT the most respected program in the Sunbelt and further. I don't give a damn if the Sunbelt is strong or not; I want UNT to be respected by everyone. You with me? We've got the base for a very good team, now lets see a coaching group take it to the next level.

  10. Troy played DT his first year, but shifted to OT the next year. He has been redshirted, so he'll go into next season as a redshirt junior. He has not really had a chance to play O-line in a game yet. Next year's O-line is in pretty good shape with Johnson, Fortenberry, Feeley & Tomlinson back, all having extensive playing time in 2010 except Johnson and he was the starter at C going in. The issue will be people stepping up at OT and in backup positions. I can see Johnson at C, Fortenberry at RG, Tomlinson at LT, Feeley at LG and a need for a RT. That RT could be Adedipe, Franklin, Bean, Noble or a JC recruit. I think we'll absolutely need JC help.
  11. Actually Chico & The Man is appropriate!
  12. A couple of UNT linemen spoke to him today.
  13. Frye is the guy, he'll be here early next week. http://www.coachurbanmeyer.com/06/18/10/Justin-Frye/landing.html?blockID=256690&feedID=6494
  14. This guy is a real D-1 D coach. No way is Deloach stayin! Get a grip!
  15. I hear that McWhorter (Oline) and Kennedy (Receivers) from the UT football staff cleaned out there offices yesterday. Just a rumor so far.
  16. Agree with this and want to say RV would have had a hard time hiring Canales because it would've seemed like another experiment. RV would be the next guy out the door if it didn't work. He really had no choice when the team didn't beat Troy, Monroe or KSU. A win over Troy or Monroe would've gotten him the job. It was too late by KSU. Too bad too! I believe Canales was a good choice, but you can't fight city hall. Here's the real test; Does UNT want to play a Canales led Sunbelt team?
  17. That was a pretty good game. Better than I expected. Our line did a nice job and Riley gave his usual over-achiever performance. Mighta won or tied with Riley still in. Even the ESPN3 announcers were rooting for KSU and Thomas, but you won them over. They had a lot of nice things to say about UNT, Dunbar and Riley. Congrats to the entire team for maintaining your poise under difficult circumstances this year. We look forward to seeing you next year in the new stadium with a new coaching staff.

  19. I guess you just have to wonder whether any of the big name HCs we hear about could've taken a broken team like the one we had 4 weeks ago and turn them around in such a short time. That was done by a professional college coach that knows how to connect with the kids/men. Make no mistake about it, this program was on a downward spiral that was about to lose a good portion of the players with 2 or more years left to play and Canales brought them back in a week. I'd love to see what he can do in an off-season!
  20. I still think the passive D-line that D-Lo runs on most running plays is a big mistake. It makes heroes out of a mediocre running team's O-line. ULM doesn't have a D either, so they just haul off and attack on every play. Our D-line never puts their hands up, so we don't bat down any balls, ever. I'm DISGUSTED! Score 37 points on a team in this conference and don't win? Are we joking? It'd be different if it was parity among good teams.
  21. Riley has gut's, heart, mobility and brains, but he can't see over the line. I don't know if its coverage that keeps him from throwing down the middle or he isn't able to see the route. The line looks like they are trying to create passing lanes, but I don't know if that's how they are coached or they just do it sometimes.
  22. what you said is kinda interesting don't say it again
