There is a lot of mystery at this point on who will be the Saskatchewan Roughriders starting quarterback when they begin the season on June 11 in Edmonton.

Entering his third year with the Roughriders, Mason Fine is looking forward to competing for the position when the team begins training camp this May.

The Riders quarterback was a guest on Tuesday’s edition of the SportsCage with Michael Ball.

Fine said his goal entering the 2022 season was to build off his rookie campaign as he continued to make the transition to the professional game.

At the beginning of his sophomore year with the Riders entrenched as the backup, the North Texas product was hoping to provide Saskatchewan with a solid backup plan at quarterback. He felt that he got off on the right foot.

“I think I had a great training camp to start off the season and I really think I took some strides there with all of the reps that I got. ”

Last season, Fine saw the majority of his action in three games. He came in relief for Cody Fajardo against the BC Lions on August 19 and was the team’s starting quarterback for their final two games of the season against the Calgary Stampeders. The QB ended the season with 690 passing yards, three touchdowns and three interceptions.

The 25-year-old hopes to take his game to another new level in 2023.

“I think I made great strides from 2021 to 2022, now I need to take a bigger step forward and get better overall as a quarterback.”

I wonder if he has considered USFL. They were fun to watch last spring and they were on TV.

Does anybody know what the average salary is in the CFL. I realize there pay is nothing like the NFL.

This is a little bit of a rant so bear with me on my soapbox if you will.

Not sure what he is up to or if he would  be interested, but I think we should create a full time positon for Mean Joe similar to what UT does with Vince Young in Austin.  Mean Joe should have a restaurant names after him in Denton and he should be at all or most of the games with his NFL Hall of Fame jacket on and his superbowl rings shining brightly.  This guy is such a jewel for North Texas and we owe it to him to provide him this opportunity and it would be stupid for us not to utilize his fame and recognition in his twilight years.  Boxer Jake LaMotta and singer Frank Sinatra had similar roles for entertainment establishments.

Hey Jonny if I remember some years back Vince Young was fired from that position because he never showed up. Texas was paying him good money for being that Ambassador.

A Flower Mound Marcus High School assistant football coach resigned after his arrest. A hospital official at Baylor Scott & White Health in North Texas is not employed there anymore. And information on an official with First Priority of America in Fort Worth is no longer on the religious organization’s website. That is what has happened to three of 46 men recently arrested during a multi-agency operation targeting the demand for commercial sex in North Texas. The men — a majority of whom are from North Texas — face charges of solicitation of prostitution after they were arrested on Jan. 12 and Jan. 13 in an operation focused on suppressing the demand for prostitution, according to local and federal law enforcement. The operation was spearheaded by the Department of Homeland Security as part of its Blue Campaign.

On Tuesday, Frisco police announced that 23 of the 46 men were arrested in their city. Undercover officers met with suspects at hotels in Frisco and Southlake. Law enforcement personnel responded to online solicitations for prostitution an arranged meetings with the suspects at the hotels with the coordination and cooperation of hotel management and staff, Frisco police said.

One of those arrested was Cecil Timothy Morrison, a former teacher and assistant football coach at Flower Mound Marcus High School in the Lewisville school district. Morrison joined the Lewisville school district in April 2018 and submitted his resignation on Jan. 18. “Mr. Morrison was placed on administrative leave when the district became aware of his arrest and subsequently submitted his resignation to the district last week,” according to a statement released by Lewisville ISD officials. “This is a legal matter outside his role in our district, and we have no indication the circumstances surrounding his arrest involved students.”

Judging by his comments last year and the fact that he has purchased a house, it seems likely he has. Also when you consider 1 mil after taxes is more like $650K, and that was 10 years ago.

Billy, he may had put that $650,000 in Apple stock a decade ago and since then returned 540%. Just saying.

  5. The ESPN article mentioned UT Rio Grande will be included but did not mention which sport they would participate in? I also thought that UT Pan American would be the more likely candidate because of their size, established baseball and BB program.  Are they UT Rio Grande planning to start a football team?
