Wise words, totally. Recruiting players and having them agree to play here doesn't mean "you will get a full 4 years of starting." Most likely, they get two full years of starting, if they EVER crack the 2 deep. Everything after that is bonus for both the team and player.

Ford Out For The Season
SteaminWillieBeamin replied to Mean Green 93-98's topic in Mean Green Football
I felt bad for Ford's family at the game. They were all there from Charleston and happy as could be. Then out out of nowhere, some lady leaned over and said "You guys Steven's parents? He broke his leg, they took him back." His poor family went into swivel head mode -- looking around for their boy. He came out on crutches by the 3rd quarter and gave them a nod. -
Back From Clemson......photos

My impression(s) of Clemson: * It was a nice campus, not stellar, but nice. * The stadium is good and thankfully they didn't back the visitors in the sun (ahem, UT). * Clemson fans weren't over the top nice, they were on the verge of being completely ignorant to our presence. I prefer ignorance over the way OU fans are. We didn't get invited into any tailgate, though we tried by leaning in an asking questions about Clemson -- to which I heard "Clemson grows to the second largest city in SC" 23 times. This isn't a problem normally at most schools, they love to feed and mock the opponents. As it turns out, the Clemson fan just looked through us and our green attire, literally. It was as if they didn't know our school colors are green/white. It wasn't bad or good -- just was peaceful. We went "downtown" to find a burger and everyone I asked where to get the best burger, they looked at me blankly and then said "I dunno." It was odd. I thought that perhaps we weren't "downtown", just on the campus drag, so I asked a man if we were downtown and he said that we were in fact "as downtown as you could possibly be." We ended up at an empty place and were surprised to discover it was a sushi joint (!!), but we could order from the adjacent wing place for gameday food. It turned out to be a rather nice place to watch games and drink cold ones -- on a side note the server had some choice comments about a "minority based small school south of here" and gave my whole group puppy heads. * Wow, the town of Clemson is tiny -- 12k. * Clemson Uni isn't much larger -- 17k. It was a fun trip -- near the top of my list. I found a place in Chapel Hill that served me up a 23yo Bourbon for $51 a serving and discovered the Carolina love for biscuits. -

Second reference to that. What did I miss while I was out roiding? -

I agree with some of your list, but I have nothing but optimism. All hail the first week of college football. I watched the game in person and was absolutely stoked about what I saw. When I got home and watched it on DVR, the luster wore off just a tad, but not completely. The Tune turnovers were killer. He also fumbled twice, but we recovered both. He and Dunbar also had a several miscues on the zone read where Tune ended up having the ball (precariously), when he wanted Lance to take it. He also audibled a couple times and it took too long, so the defense was able to recover and stuff us. Even with this little list, Tune was a stud. He was accurate, decisive and mobile. I hope this does nothing but build his confidence coming into the Rice game. Overall though -- definitely a good way to open to the season and I am very comfortable with Tune as QB. This one didn't hurt like the KSU opener. -
I like white/white uniforms. In comparison, I will take any uniform over the turds I saw BSU and VT wearing lastnight.

He doesn't look too happy there. It's like he is signing up for the draft..

9) The commercial played during halftime includes: "UNT: The Leading University of the DFW Area" I saw in the new temp presidents email today that he used that phrase. Maybe he thought it was original. -

Dasher Suspended, But Will Be Back For Unt Game
SteaminWillieBeamin replied to Brett Vito's topic in Mean Green Football
This punishment glosses over the use of a stolen check to secure the loan. Sure, the loan violates NCAA rules, but the stolen check violates the law. This only makes me guess that MTSU does't care about the broken law? -
Origin Of The Name, "mean Green"

This same story was in the North Texan that magically appeared in my mailbox a few years back. -
It is kind of like me driving on the right side of the road while semis are heading toward me on the other side of the that yellow line. We have a mutual agreement that him hitting me would harm him, even though it would definitely do worse damage to me. Whatever D* named people they have doesn't want to go ass wild on the likes of UNT, because it may damage their draft position with a nice injury, even though they may get the chance unload on Tune. Most likely they tackle him and go after the ball. Now, if this were a rivalry game, then they may put caution to the wind -- on a side note, who is Clemson's rival?
-
I don't understand the anger at "burning his redshirt." He was on the travel squad. He is a viable player, since he made the trip. Dodge only had three QBs on the trip and two of them were knocked *out* of the game with injuries. Who plays? The next QB on the list. Who would have he put out there? Scrappy?

Flying to Raliegh, NC. Drinking whiskey with a fellow MG alumn and the husband of a MG TAMs alumn. Then riding shotgun for the 5 hour drive gameday, watch a blowout, drink too much and stay in a hotel while nursing wounds with more whiskey. In the morning, try to find a place to eat a fatty breakfast, because heartburn and a hangover go hand in hand. Then ride backseat to NC and fly back to the flatlands. Sounds like the yearly ass whipping I endure for my MG love.

And the Pink in the Eagle Nest. -
I couldn't find any ties for the owner of Eagletalk and UNT. He doesn't live in North Texas either -- he lives in East Texas. The man who owns Eagletalk used the site as the USM's fan site in the early 2000's. He worked the site and quickly it became popular enough that he parlayed it into the rivals fan board. Then he wrote articles for Rivals -- seemingly as a job. There seems to have been some drama with some of his stories and the fan boards, and he no longer was at Rivals. However he still had the Eagletalk domain. It sat idle for some years, then he re-spun it into a Mean Green (Eagles) site and I think he was hoping to get it onto Rivals. His old Rivals ties may be the source of his information, that others didn't seem to have. I dunno. He stopped posting stories as soon as Troy Phillips unveiled the UNT Rivals -- maybe a complete coincidence. It is a mystery, fo sho.
