  1. We looked like the Mean Green Midgets out there last night. Defense has one Big Player and the O-Line kept Mason on the run all night - we beat them 30 to 7 last year - did they recruit that much better than we did- Looks like it.
  2. The Roadrunner was here in the late 60’s and worked for the university during Nolen’s term. He was not liked by the faculty because he was not a Dr. and he was a conservative Rep. He did a great job while he was here but rented the super pit out to a republican caucus group and got fired within about 2 weeks from that event. Politics is always playing a roll in our non-success. You have to keep in mind two things about Jackson and the BOR: 1. Jackson was a Disliked Judge in Dallas County and they pushed him off on UNT as know one wanted him- so we win. 2. The BOR are appointed by the Governor and are his Rich friends- they are doing him a favor for serving on our Board- They do not care at all for UNT- they are just serving out their time – Athletics is semi funded by the state so it is not really a concern for them. Jackson is Retiring in 2017 so our Pres. May have an opportunity to take action then but I do not think it will happen. You have to have balls to get the hard things done –unfortunately all of our administrators have been neutered.
  3. A basketball coach has a myriad of responsibilities that include the importance of being a moral, upstanding role model for the players on his team. The best teams have chemistry. They communicate with each other and they sacrifice personal glory for the common goal. A coach is not only a role model but also a mentor and teacher. A basketball coach will mold and develop his team as people as well as athletes. He is responsible for his players the same way a schoolteacher or parent is responsible. Will the coach take the responsibility or just let things keep sliding?
  4. I'm talking about what actually happens during a game... so let's dismiss lack of preparation and other outside factors, even though these may be very important in winning or losing the game at hand. And let's also put aside the obvious here... your opponent is simply much better than you. A young coach asked an expert coach, "Our next opponent is better, bigger, taller, quick, plays great defense, with great shooters and ball-handlers, and they pass the ball well. What should I do?" The answer... "Lose". We're not talking about that here. Here we are discussing two fairly evenly matched teams, either of which could win the game. In a nutshell, here are the reasons we lost the game: Turnovers - Bad Decisions Bad Shots Lack of Defensive Pressure, Lack of Hustle Not Blocking Out, Not Rebounding Not Getting Back Defensively Stupid Fouls Failure to Play as a Team
  5. Years ago, in our Church league my 7th graders were really having difficulty playing against the 2-3 zone, which we seem to be running into frequently in youth tournaments. Below is the system we developed for them and it worked – they came in second in the league. Low post rules: 1. Run the baseline and always be in ball-side short corner when ball is on the wing. 2. When the ball is at the high post, duck under the zone into the paint for the pass down low. 3. Offensive rebounding High post rules: 1. Move with the ball... always point toward the ball. Ball at point, be at the FT line. Ball on the wing, fill the hula hoop just below the ball-side elbow. Ball in the corner, cut down to the low block. 2. Look to score, or pass inside or opposite wing. 3. Offensive rebounding Wings rules: 1. Look to penetrate from the wing, and make good passing decisions, avoid too much dribbling. 2. Look for the shot, and when the high post is at the elbow, the opposite wing drops down into the gap on the weak-side. 3. When high post dives to low block, the opposite wing slides into the high post or ball-side elbow area. 4. Offensive rebounding Point rules: 1. Keep the ball moving, with little dribbling, except to penetrate or open a passing lane. 2. Look for opportunity to dribble and split the two top defenders, and if they collapse, dish out to either wing. 3. Responsible for staying back (on top) to prevent the fast break.
  6. First half the score was tied at 31 – 31 – when TM went out in the first half with 2 fouls – UTA went on 10-2 run Second Half – UNT Shot 6 0f 38 from the field – Offense was weave just past the 3 point line UNT – out scored from the bench UNT out scored in the lane UNT – out rebounded UTA – more assists UTA More 3 point plays UNT Coach – lost the coaching battle by a large margin Suggestion for improvement: use the UNT/UTA game tape as a training film and adopt the Scott Cross Offense and Defense Prediction – if the Coach does not change his approach to things then UNT will have its first losing season in many years

  12. Looking a Head – Did we paint ourselves into a corner Everything is being evaluated – although it is hard to imagine Mc Carney changing course on a Conservative Offensive plan he has used throughout his career. Does UNT need to open up its Offense a little? Does it have the personnel to do so? Does a run against 9 in the box defenses- Run on first & second down approach that features tight ends really work in today’s spread Offenses featured in almost every High School in Texas – will this attract the recruits we need? All questions that need to be addressed by the Coaching Staff & AD. Looking at the records – Last two at UNT 5 & 7 and 4 & 8. Record at Iowa: Year 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 Record 3-8 2-9 1-10 3-8 4-7 9-3 7-5 7-7 2-10 7-5 7-5 4-8 Mc Carney stepped down as head coach after a 4–8 season in 2006. Mc Carney finished with a 56–85 all time record. We have lots of things to evaluate for a successful Football Future – This year and Next. Hoping we get it all right this time – we need to win next year.

  16. Finally - someone who see this clearly - best post yet - keep it up - you are on the right track!!!
  17. Mac is not Hayden Fry - his whole coaching technique more resembles Darrel Dickie Philosophy - hand off right - hand off left - 3rd and 8 - throw a 40 yard past - if intercepted then it is just like a punt. There is no allowing the QB to read and react to 9 or 10 players in the box with a new formation or play call - no use of option plays to get around a 9 in the box formation - This is Basic 101 Offensive philosophy - Mac gets thrown under the bus for this kind of mentality - it lost us the Troy game -5 times in red zone and no score and todays game - we went into offensive shell in 4th quarter. Mac could have 30 red shirt 3 ton gorillas and if they are not able to read and react and placed in proper play sets - they will not be able to win - this is all on mac.
  18. Ya you know - K-State signed 14 last year - K-State has had 27 former junior college players earn All-Big 12 honors
  19. Our New Head Coach has never been a Head Coach before and most likely does not understand how important this game is to UTA - my guess is that UNT will come out flat again this year and get down 15 or so within the first 5 min. of the game and may not be able to make a come back to win the game. TM tends to get in foul trouble early in the game - Team level of on court intensity and overall lack of defense - is a weakness that has not been over come this season - this could be a long night for the Mean Green.
  20. Going into to an Offensive Shell in the 4th Quarter with a lead - did not work in the Big 12 - Did not Work in the Sun Belt and will not work in the C-USA - Our Coaches must face that fact and make changes. DKR - said you dance with who brought you to the dance and you dance with her until the dance is over - I think he was the greatest Div. 1 coach ever in Texas - Will our Coach listen to one of the Texas Greats???? We are paying him over $500,000.00 per year and he comes up with this going into a Shell Offense with a 4th Quarter lead - Cost us Victory against Troy & WKU - is that all we get for $500,000.00 per year - the players and fans deserve better than that for that kind of money!!! We could have been 6-6 this year.
  21. The too conservative hand off to the right and hand off to the left with 9 or 10 “IN THE BOX” – is not allowing your QB the opportunity to Read the Defense and React to it - Basic 101 stuff. If you want to be conservative wit 9 in the box then put an Option Offense on the field so you can go around the ends and move the chains and keep moving – what we are doing has not worked all season – Look at the loss to Troy – same thing. Mac lost this one and a few others – we could have been 6-6 this year.
  22. Yes - this happened in our last home game - and could have happened tonight - the electronic scanner was not working and they ran out of tickets
  23. Can success from one season carry over to the next, Answer – Hell Yes – The success is called Coach Dan McCarney because he has the confidence of the staff and players and is teaching the team to play with a winning swagger and will always create something called the mean green momentum and we got that in spades. We will be in a bowl game in the 2012-2013 season and you don’t need a crystal ball to figure that out.
  24. UNT has some of the highest admission standards in the State – if anyone from SMU is using that worn out excuse for failure you can count on it being total Big Time BS – I mean the toilet clogging, water line busting, gaseous kind of Big Time BS.
  25. This is sounding more and more like it is going to happen: Ballard said he expected three to four months of “more important discussions” about laying the groundwork for the new conference after the agreements are signed by members, and the all-important discussions about TV revenue would follow. “I think the real key details will depend upon what will happen with the TV contracts,” Ballard said, adding that he believes the league is committed to 24 total members in the long term. “There are certainly some areas of concern there, but the biggest single event is if and when we were to sign over our TV rights to a new conference because that would be more binding and probably much harder to exit from than the situation that we’re currently in.”
