  1. ...let the debate begin on your statements... Since 2000, how many titles have come out of West Texas? Since 1990, how many titles have come out of West Texas. In all classes you have a possibility of 14 State Champions since 2000...In 5A, your 'Little Southworst Conference' and all of West Texas has produced 1 out of 14 since 2000. In the decade of the 1990's, West Texas produced a mighty grand total of 3 out of 20 potential champions in class 5A. GREAT JOB WEST TEXAS! What a mighty powerhouse, completely dominating...NOT! Dude, it's not even close. West Texas is the 2nd worst area for HS football in Texas behind the Rio Grande Valley.
  2. I sure like the sound of having 5 of our 15 commits be Area Top 100 players! Especially when you consider that there are others who would fall on that list, but their schools are not located in the area that the DMN ranks like: Darrien Williams, Forest Rucker, Kenny Barrett, Coleman Feeley, Kylee Hill, and Jeremy Phillips. James Hamilton is a great football player from CH. Ask Coach McGuire what he thinks about him. He said, and I quote, "James Hamilton is a better overall football player than William Cole was last year."
  3. That is the plan for the new stadium. Basically a clone of Gerald Ford but with the Athletic Center/football offices in the 'open endzone'. And the home side will be a small double deck with suites in between. Also, a neat feature will be the 'digital strip signage' or 'scrolling marquee' signs along the concrete facings...similar to Kyle Field and a lot of Major League Baseball stadiums (hope that makes sense). The back of the home side will contain a lot of glass, and will look similar to the back of the Oklahoma Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium...very attractive, but obviously on a much smaller scale. It's going to be one of the nicest small D1 stadiums in the country!
  4. FFR...that is pretty much accurate. That's the plan.
  5. 2007 College Football All-American Team Offense QB Tim Tebow, Florida Chase Daniel, Missouri Andre Woodson, Kentucky Colt Brennan, Hawaii Matt Ryan, Boston College Dennis Dixon, Oregon RB Darren McFadden, Arkansas Kevin Smith, Central Florida Mike Hart, Michigan Steve Slaton, West Virginia Ray Rice, Rutgers Jonathan Stewart, Oregon WR Michael Crabtree, Texas Tech DeSean Jackson, California Jordy Nelson, Kansas State Mario Manningham, Michigan Jeremy Maclin, Missouri Casey Fitzgerald, North Texas TE Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma Travis Beckham, Wisconsin Martin Rucker, Missouri OL Jake Long, Michigan Anthony Collins, Kansas Kirk Barton, Ohio State Duke Robinson, Oklahoma Alex Mack, California Greg Isdaner, West Virginia
  6. It's great to see Mr. Mosley (among others) so fired up about Mean Green football in the years to come. It shows the impact that Todd Dodge has had on this program in his short time here, and the future is certainly bright. Mr. Mosley, we are so glad to have Micah here, and he had an outstanding year as a true freshman! Glad to see your support of Dodge and North Texas in general, and I am a believer like you!
  7. awesome! Way to go Giovanni, Casey, Jeremiah, Kelvin, Brandon, and Craig! Good news is that we have Giovanni, Casey, Kelvin, and Craig coming back! And yes, I'd say Eddrick Gilmore and AJ Penson are starters for certain on the defensive side of the ball.
  8. Rex is an absolute stud for the Wildcats! He is very fun to watch as he is just an outstanding football player with a great feel for the game. I'd love to get him and Kris Lott (their JR Wide Receiver #24) up here to Denton. I think we have a great shot at Lott, however, I think Burkhead will go somewhere with an offensive system in which he can carry the ball 15+ times a game and be a feature back.
  9. When you sit back and think about it, we could have easily been a 5-7 win team.

  11. Jesse...good post! I am a little confused on what order to put them in...so I'll discuss them in terms of the most frustrating losses! 1) SMU: For the first time all year, we show signs of greatness early in the game. We jump out to a convincing lead early in 2nd quarter, and hang on enough to have momentum going into the locker room at halftime. After the half, we still look good and should win this game. The INT we gave them the play directly after picking off Justin Willis was very frustrating. We went for the homerun to try and swing the momentum and Meager's lack of arm strength made the ball hang in the air for eternity. That was the difference in my opinion. After this game, people had an idea of what 'Dodgeball' is all about. Should have won this game. 2) Arkansas State: On a cold night in Jonesboro, we face one of the best defenses in the Sun Belt and exploit them by running the football. Coaches felt that their secondary was the obvious strength of their football team, so we decided to run the ball and had a ton of success doing so. Another game with a huge lead that diminished as the game went on. We had a chance to put them away and missed a field goal that allowed them to go 80 yards as time expired to win. Tough one to swallow, and one that we needed at this point in the season. Should have won this game. 3) Navy: The day was great, atmosphere was awesome, and the game was exciting. I rank this one third because we were totally helpless defensively in this one. We moved the ball at will, but so did they. A Holding call in our own endzone resulting in a safety followed by a return for TD results in a possible 16 point swing and costs us the ballgame. The holding call from the BACKSIDE makes a huge difference...very frustrating. Should have won this game. 4) Florida Atlantic: A game at Fouts where we came out and went toe to toe with the eventual conference Champions. We were out-manned athletically, but matched the Owls for most of the game. In fact, this is another instance where we couldn't hold a lead, and 2 breakdowns on Special Teams made a huge difference. We had a legitimate chance to win this ballgame. 5) Florida International: The last game in the Orange Bowl, and the reason this one is so frustrating is not because we lost to a team that hadn't won in 23 tries. I personally felt that they played harder than we did...and that is hard to swallow. 6) Middle Tennessee: Another beautiful night at Fouts in front of a good home crowd. We get out front again, only to surrender 2 safeties due to special team's breakdowns that gave us horrible field position, and the tipped ball returned for a TD was the beginning of the snowball in this one. I hated to see this one get out of our grasp because we should have won this game against a more talented Blue Raiders team. 7) Louisiana Lafayette: I knew it wouldn't be great when a downpour prior to kickoff drenched the field in Lafayette. However, we came out and played very hard, and offensively had an outstanding night considering the conditions of the surface. Problem was that Fenroy and their QB ran wild on our defense. We were already slow to begin with on defense, much less on a wet field! 8) Troy: Didn't feel good about going into this game. It was a heck of a challenge from the get-go. This Troy team is an outstanding football team and has certainly been robbed of a bowl game! We create 7 turnovers and don't get the necessary points. Game should have been much closer, but we didn't capitalize on their mistakes. 9) Arkansas: Obviously, you don't expect to win this one. We looked bad in this game. 10) Oklahoma: WOW! We were so outclassed, but you have to expect that. In my opinion, the Sooners are the best team in the land.
  12. [/quote name='jjpfootball' date='Dec 2 2007, 01:09 AM' post='320585'] Dont' you understand that Dodge controls all aspects of his coaching staff. You are blaming the DC for the defense ,ALL RESPONSIBILITY FALLS ON THE HEAD COACH. And to answer your question, YES, this fan board is far more negative than any other fan board. At the end of the game when we all knew we were going to lose Dodge did not put all the Seniors in to finish the game, that was classless. These guys have played their hearts out for this program and all they get is bashing and negative remarks from their coaching staff. It is easy to blame the players but the reality is the coaches are in over their heads but their egos will never let them admit it and you guys have bought into their hype and brainwashing. You guys have bought that hook, line and sinker. This coaching staff could have taken them to a conference championship game with the talent on this team, they could have done it. He wanted to utilize his high school game plans with his freshman recruits. The veteran players on offense and defense know more about playing Sunbelt teams than the coaching staff, but they did not want to listen to any input from those players, so here we are. Get ready for next year boys because it isn't going to get any better because the attitude of the coaches isn't going to change. Every news writer said we were Southlake Carroll, well we are and a high school team will NEVER beat a college team. We needed a college coach with college experience and we did not get that, so here we go. quote name='yyz28' date='Dec 2 2007, 12:03 AM' post='320573']uesFirst, this board is no more negative than any other fanboard devoted to schools we recruit against, so no dice there.
  13. From Texasprepxtra.com David McNabb TexasPrepXtra.com Staff Talk about it in the Message Boards The Class 4A state title picture cleared considerably with Dayton, Waller, Highland Park and Lake Travis advancing to the Division II regional finals. In Division I, Copperas Cove looked strong in advancing past upstart McKinney Boyd. All other DI 4A regional finals are Saturday. Highland Park will meet the West Mesquite-Red Oak winner next Friday at Texas Stadium in the Region II final. Highland Park defeated West Mesquite 38-20 in their district finale. Waller senior DT Eddie Brown leads the way to the a Class 4A regional final against Dayton. Dayton and Waller will meet in the Region III final next week. Waller got 200 yards rushing from Jeremy Phillips in their 42-14 win over Lumberton. Phillips has committed to North Texas as a defensive back. His brother Jason is a standout defensive back at TCU. Waller also has one of the state's top uncommitted recruits in defensive tackle Eddie Brown. Dayton's record-setting year has come after standout quarterback Cody Green went out with an injury and Gregory Charles has filled in well. Dayton relies heavily on A.J. Dugat as well.
  14. Awesome stuff! Congratulations to Giovanni and Craig! Lots of bright things in the future of Mean Green football, and these are only 2 of those...
  15. Hey, no need to apologize Jesse! We will have several QB's and a few coachs' kids. These kids do bring intangibles. ABSOLUTELY...I like the BCS in 18 years, and I wouldn't doubt the physical measurements as I can only imagine where athletes will be in the 2020's!

  17. Prayers go out to his family and friends. What a difficult time. May God bless them and comfort them in this trying time, and place a special blessing on his 1 year old daughter, Jackie.
  18. Noooo....I don't want Coach Briles getting any closer to Denton! He's a very similar guy to Coach Dodge in the fact that he's extremely connected in Texas with his coaching roots and connections, which in turn, helps recruiting. I'd be fine with him staying in Houston!
  19. You can certainly count on some turnover of players leaving, transferring, etc...at the end of this year. We graduate 19 correct? We will sign 24 freshmen I believe. Like it or not, you have to count on 5 kids leaving, transferring, being kicked out for disciplinary reasons, etc. to be NCAA compliant in terms of roster numbers. One thing about Coach Dodge and the philosophies him and his staff have implemented is that EVERYONE in the program gets an equal chance to play. Vizza is certainly not leaving...anyone who thinks that is crazy. None of the WR's are leaving. I could see some of the 3rd string guys who are Jr's or Sr's who have talented youngsters behind them leaving...it only makes sense. We will just have to wait and see though!
  20. This speed deal wears me out. I wish Coach Archie would help me out here too. For crying out loud, 4.6 is fast, especially for a 6'3"+ kid!!! Most of the stuff you see on the internet about high school prospects, espcially from Scout are times that are VERY generous (most likely handheld times by their high school coaches). Go look up the 40 times for the top NFL draft prospects and you'll get a true reading that will SHOCK most of you. Then you'll understand that a 4.6 is fast, and a 4.5 is very fast, and a 4.4 is ridiculously fast.
  21. Agreed Dodge2007. Those times are blazing...handheld times by their high school coaches. Most people have NO concept of speed, and think 4.6 or 4.7 is slow. I was looking at the top prospects for the NFL draft yesterday, and there's only like 5 kids who run under a 4.5 and 3 of those are Corners. You're right, just head over to the weight room and look on the record boards for legitimate 40 time records. These times have to be posted off of Scout or Rivals which take those times from their high school coaches or from a simple questionnaire. .
  22. Coach Dodge is not going anywhere folks. I'm telling you, he's going to pull a Rich Rodriguez or Gary Pinkel and put his stamp on North Texas Football while building it into a nationally recognized football program and enjoy doing so in the meantime. 7 years ago, how were West Virginia and Missouri doing? Rich Rodgriguez showed up in Morgantown in 2001: 2001 he went 3-8. 2002 he went 9-4 and played in the Continental Tire Bowl. 2003 he went 8-5 and played in the Gator Bowl. 2004 he went 8-4 and played in the Gator Bowl. **Note that he lost the above 3 bowl games** 2005 he went 11-1 and won the Sugar Bowl over Georgia. 2006 he went 11-2 and won the Gator Bowl over Georgia Tech. 2007 he's 10-1 and ranked #2 in the country... Gary Pinkel showed up at Missouri in 2001 2001 he went 4-7. 2002 he went 5-7. 2003 he went 8-5 and played in the Independence Bowl against Arkansas. 2004 he went 5-6. 2005 he went 7-5 and won the Independence Bowl over South Carolina. 2006 he went 8-5 and played in the Sun Bowl against Oregon State. 2007 he's 10-1 and ranked #1 in the country... These are just 2 instances of coaches taking over programs and building them into what they are today (in particular what they are this year). I can guarantee when jobs come open, these 2 guys have their names thrown out there all of the time, but they are still at their respective schools and will be for a long time. I mean Rich Rodriguez turned down $ 3 million/year at Alabama to stay at WVU.
