  1. Yes, Darrien Williams plays safety for Vernon. Just ask the RB's from Celina how it was meeting him for the first time last year in the Semi's. He flies up and will absolutely smoke people near the LOS, while also being extremely effective in coverage and displaying good closing speed. In fact, I think Coach Archie and them may have played Vernon this year...if so, I'd like to hear his assesment of Darrien. Anywho, very glad to land Jeremy. Looks like he has a great frame, and a ton of athleticism. For a kid to have that size-speed combo as a 17 year old is impressive, and he will only get better. How about having a 6'4" 210 lb ball-hawking 4.5 safety in the secondary...sounds good huh? Not to mention, I guarantee he brings a ton of intangibles to the table being a coach's kid.
  2. Yes sir! Speed, speed, speed...that's the name of the game! Can't ever have too much of it! Pretty soon, we'll have speed at all 6 skill spots on offense and 9 spots on defense with the exception of the DT's in Scoggins and DeSoto...but those guys aren't slow. And a 4.6 time isn't slow, but Brandon Akpunku from Cedar Hill plays faster than a 4.6...he's all over the field in a hurry and usually arrives in a bad mood. Same thing with Derick Tomlin...great football speed on the defensive side of the ball.
  3. Exciting to see another high level athlete heading to Denton to play "dodgeball"! And even better that he's on the defensive side of the ball! Great size-speed combo and a coach's kid! I like it!
  4. Wow, you're on top of things! Impressive.
  5. Nice research FFR. After double-checking your assumption, I'll second you and say that is accurate information. Chapman and Gilmore both have had outstanding years, and Chapman definitely plays with a motor. Yes, he is aligned on one side of the field, but has made plays sideline to sideline...and that's what coaches want: A defensive player that flies to the football.
  6. Good call... Hey, the Longhorns won pre-game with their taunting and mouthing if that means anything...but they are headed to basketball this week and the Dragons move on.
  7. Darrien Williams is a total force in the Lions' secondary! I've spoken to 3 coaches who have played against him and they said he is a nightmare...all over the field. He can come up on the run and deliver big hits near the LOS or drop back into coverage and cover a man or a zone with the best of them. These coaches say that we (UNT) are getting a great one in Darrien!
  8. Game was not even as close as the score. Cedar Hill totally outclassed, outcoached, and outcharactered... but hey, they won pre-game with all of their trash talk! Riley Dodge is very deserving to repeat as 5A Player of the Year.
  9. Amen FFR. We need those new logos at Rivals.com, ESPN, and some other ones!
  10. You could add men's soccer, but, just out of curiousity, how many fans does men's soccer draw? I believe the NCAA average attendance for Division 1 baseball is something like 750 people a game.
  11. yeah, you're right, Cedar Hill is no powerhouse, no Southlake Carroll...not even close. They very easily could win the game on Friday, but I doubt it. I'd imagine Cedar Hill can replace starters year in and year out better than most programs. They are blessed with a great group of athletes annually, as many teams in their district are like Duncanville, DeSoto, Bowie, etc. I will say too, that watching William Cole play last year was a ton of fun. He was great, and I hope he does well in Stillwater.
  12. USC vs. Arizona State: The Sun Devils win a great ballgame in Sun Devil Stadium Arkansas @ LSU: The Tigers win a close one in Death Valley. McFadden goes off, but LSU scores late to sneak out the 'W'. Texas @ Texas A&M: Longhorns big. They shut down the option game, and we all know A&M can't throw enough to win against a team like Texas. Jamaal Charles has a huge day. Boise State @ Hawaii: Push...too intriguing of a game, and not enough knowledge of the teams to make a prediction, other than it being a high-scoring affair.
  13. And do not underestimate the Dragons and their determination for a 5th State Crown in 6 seasons since moving up to 5A. Cedar Hill was a great 1 year wonder, but they haven't been there year in and year out like Southlake Carroll.
  14. Kind of off topic, but here's what we really need for a conference: "The New Southwest Conference" North Texas SMU TCU Baylor Rice Houston UTEP Louisiana Tech New Mexico State I think this could generate great fan interest, and establish rivalries in all athletic programs across the board.
  15. You know the reason they wear the Black is because of the large amounts of signaling we do. As a player, when you look over to the sidelines and have 115 or so people in green it's hard to tell where the one your supposed to be looking at for signals is. The Black is to stand out a bit so the players can see coaches very clearly in order to receive the signals. It's that way all across college football, even for teams that have no black in their uniforms. The signalers at Texas & Oklahoma all wear black, yet those aren't even school colors.
  16. Dang, we are losing some good defensive football players!
  17. The UA Uniforms are awesome. I wonder if we make a bowl game that the black pants with green & white stripes will come out like they did at SLC ? We join Auburn, Maryland, and South Carolina with the full scale UA Endorsement. I have heard that UA will be coming out with the Kelly Green shade in their retail lines to accomodate NT better! Our guys really do look great out there. The whole presentation is very professional. Players look great, coaches look professional, trainers all match...its a good presentation of UNT football.
  18. Seriously if you can make it to the Basketball game (of course after going to the Football game) then you need to! It is a unique place to watch a game.
  19. Agreed on all but one thing. Great post. Todd Dodge has already won at home as Head Coach.
  20. WKU is a very good football team that plays with a ton of energy. I was flipping through the channels last weekend late at night and caught their coach's show on one of the Fox Stations. Got to see about 25 minutes of it and they showed a bunch of highlights from their Troy game. Man, these guys look like the real deal offensively and defensively. They have 2 outstanding RB's, and have a DT that is a huge force in their front 7.
  21. If everyone can go, please go! Send these Seniors out with support. They've poured their heart and souls into Mean Green football the last 4-5 years and it has basically been their life. We owe it to them to support them. We also owe it to all of the people involved with Mean Green football, starting with the players & coaches, to the trainers and equipment people, and on down the list. These guys have absolutely worked their tails off for the last 5 months day in and day out, and they need our support. Plus it's a great way to show the leader of our program, Todd Dodge, that we are behind him and what he is doing. Guys, let's face it. This is a new era in North Texas football. These boys are getting taught how to be great football players and great young men. Players are being taught character, discipline, honesty, etc...We are setting offensive records on the field. It's fun to watch these games. Recruiting has never been better. We have a coach with a plan, and a vision...and he is beginning to get the players and his staff to execute that plan. The plan is one that everyone will like, enjoy, and totally support. There is an energy on this board. Everyone seems very passionate and seems to care about what happens with the program...no matter how bad those people criticize coaches/players whatever...that is a good sign! They are behind the program and care about it very much. It looks like home attendance will be at an all time high for a 3-9 team (yes, I said 3-9...optimistic ) and that is a great sign. This program is moving forward, and getting better every day that Coach Dodge goes to work at the Athletic Center.
