  1. This will not be a popular topic, but in todays state of world affairs, I fully believe it is time to re-instate the draft. We cannot depend on our so called "allies" to help us with countries like Iran and North Korea and an all volunteer Army, along with reserves is not the way to protect the USA. We have a porous border and there is no telling who is coming across. I was a draftee myself, having pulled a 13 month stint in Viet Nam, another unpopular war/conflict. My country called, I went. A draft might also help straighten out some of the disfunctional youth we have in this country.
  2. Anyone remember Northern Illinois? A mere grain of sand on the Div. 1A landscape, NIU was at the bottom of the 1A gutter rankings for several years. Heck, even a Matt Simon team went up there and beat them. Low and behold, they changed coaches! Now look at them. I'd say they have come a long way in a short period of time.
  3. I wish all tailgaters would get into the stadium, if for only a quarter or two. All colleges have this problem. But your idea would just about kill tailgating.
  4. We may be working on next seasons OOC schedule already. Let's see, Buffalo, Temple, some obscure 1AA team; who else can we schedule? Utah St? No, they beat Fresno last night.
  5. If these coaches are still around next year then you will be witness to the demise of NT football. Fans, MG Club and donor support will be thrown back into the dark ages.
  6. Put another way, the speed of the captain, the speed of the crew. My new signature!
  7. The three posts above this one is the answer to the annual burning question, "with an enrollment of 32,000+ at NT, why don't more students come to the football games".
  8. How many HS recruits were at the MTSU game? Any decent size lineman-type bodies? They had to be ready to commit after seeing the game. Lord knows they would probably start next year if they are decent players. That is, if they stayed past halftime.
  9. Look on the bright side, at least we're in good company. Waiting list: Ball State (1-4), Memphis (1-3), Mississippi State (1-4), North Carolina (1-3), North Texas (1-4), Ole Miss (1-4) and UNLV (1-3). DeepGreen SpinMaster
  10. Watching the Tulsa - So. Miss game. Gee, so that's how an offensive line is suppose to look and block.
  11. No sure what your post is about, but for those who don't know Maudie.....
  12. I still think Rick Neuheusel is the ticket. He'd diffinitely create a stir on the national scene for North Texas.
  13. This could be the most depressing thread ever.
  14. I would agree with hiring Fry but only as a fund raiser, not a coach. He's up there in age and I don't want a "Pappa Joe" walking the sidelines like Penn State. Now, in Todd Dodge, you have a someone, like Fry, who certainly has the H.S. coaching experience, and has coached at the college level as an assistant. He's familiar with North Texas, the good and the bad. Dodge would be my choice. He may have made enemies with other HS coaches in the DFW area, but not the entire state. Hell, down in SE Texas he's still seen as a god, judging from all of the newspaper articles I've read on him. I think you would see better recruiting throughout the state of Texas. Kids know all about Todd Dodge and his explosive offense. Did anyone see Southlake on TV a couple of weeks ago? They looked like a freakin machine. Let's do it!
  15. Wardoves? That's gotta hurt.
  16. One item missing here is the impact D1A transfers can have on a D1AA team. A program that transfers in a couple of studs from Florida, So. Miss., Arkansas can really effect a program. What impact will Bomar have on the Sam Houston State program when he is cleared to play? Look what Dustin Long did for Sam Houston the year he transferred in from Texas A & M. No sure where they ended up in the playoffs but he did make an impact and create excitement for that program.
  17. I'm not pro nor con on Simon, but if I remember correctly his riff with the AD was facilities. How would Simon have faired in the Sun Belt of today with the facilities and budget that Dickey works with? Then again, with todays facilities when Simon was here, would we even be in the SBC? Perhaps the WAC or CUSA? That is, assuming Simon would had a nice Won/Loss record with the current facilities.
  18. There's only been one Dr. Pohl at NT. Athletically speaking, if Pohl were Catholic, the Pope would have made him a Saint already. Not sure what the new administration has in mind.
  19. Rick, not trying to get into this foray, but with regards to the win over SMU and future recruiting, I doubt that victory will make one iota of difference in DD's recruiting. Heck, if four conference champions and four appearances in the NO Bowl on national TV didn't land us solid recruits like we thought, then that little win over SMU sure won't.
  20. Now problem. You upgraded to the "fathead" look.
