State linebacker killed in drive-by shooting LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) -- New Mexico State linebacker Shana Leaupepe, who was set to be a starter this season, was killed in a drive-by shooting. Leaupepe, 21, died Friday in Long Beach, Calif., coach Hal Mumme said Saturday. Leaupepe was visiting family when he was killed. "Shana was an outstanding young man, and we are shocked that this has happened," Mumme said in a statement. "Shana was a wonderful friend and teammate, and our hearts go out to his family. We've lost a special young man whose time at New Mexico State left a lasting mark on our coaches, players and staff." Leaupepe led West Los Angeles College with 56 tackles in 2004, helping his team to a conference championship. In his two years at the college, he tallied more than 100 tackles and was named an all-Conference selection twice. He transferred to New Mexico State in 2005 and redshirted that season. Mumme said Leaupepe will be buried in American Samoa.

I almost hope that the game isnt televised... I mean, some people may say that no matter the score, it gets our name out there... idk, 67-0 i think is worse than no one knowing about us... Because then the conversation is more like "did you hear how that crappy team got killed by UT?" Not all publicity is good publicity... Hopefully it wont be too ugly, but, im not holding my breath...

I hadnt thought of it from the attendance stand point. I wonder how many games we have at the same time as them. That could hurt some, because I bet there are many more that would rather watch them on tv than come pay money to watch NT. If I remember right we play SMU at the same time UT plays Ohio State. That could spell disaster. As far as morale on campus, I dont think it will change too much, I mean, school pride isnt exactly at a high right now... I also agree with Eagle1855, that also kinda screws us over. Would you rather watch 2-9 NT, or National Champs...

You know, from the way some are acting you would think that our bitter rivals just won the National Championship... We are NOT rivals with Texas. Why act like it? Ok, so they think we are a crappy school. We think SMU, Muts, NMSU, La-La and about 25 others are crappy. You think that them winning will be bad for our recruiting? Thats just laughable... I am not a UT puppet or anything. UNT is my team. But I am happy that a Texas team won. Just like I was glad when the Spurs won the NBA. Just like I would be happy if the Texans won the Super Bowl, but that'll probably never happen... So basically, get over it. Being a titty baby about it wont help anything but make you look like a moron. Let people be happy. Stop having a complex because UNT sucked this year and another school didnt.

Well when we played UT 2 times ago it was 27-0. The next time they doubled the points +9. So this time I am thinking somewhere in the neighborhood of 135-0. Come on, I think thats respectable. I mean, they beat Colorado 70-3. A hurricane versus the 2005 Longhorns... Wait, but the name of the hurricane is Hurricane Vince...

I dont understand why so many people were putting stock into the USC vs. Hawaii game. Its freaking Hawaii... I mean come on... They lost to FAU last year... I saw a promo for the game that was saying "come see as USC begins their title run..." Ok, if this wasnt a blow out, then something is wrong. I mean, its freaking Hawaii... I think that is the same logo that was on the helmet in the denton paper the other day. Something that I noticed was that neither of them had a black face mask. Are we abandoning that? or is it just that it is easier to print a mask that is just the color of the background?

Is Boise a major, I think so, they kick butt and take names, for the most part. Is Louisville, yes. Is Baylor, they cant win a game hardly so no, but they have butt loads of money so yes. But are we? As much as I love North Texas, I dont think so. Not yet. Yes 25 in a row is an Amazing accomplishment. But, I think that to be a major school like they are talking about, you need to win ooc games. I mean, we couldnt even beat Baylor last year. They sucked. We couldnt beat FAU. Yeah they were good, but they were not even officially 1A yet! Give a serious look at some of the teams we have lost to in the last few years. You cant lose to those teams and be considered a major school. Thats my opinion anyways.

As brother to this 6 foot tall giant... or well... mammoth... or well... space taker uper on the field i will say this.... what he didnt mention.... Goalie was back around age 10 and before. if even that late. he is now 22. but he has great knowledge in the game of football... well.. that should count for something.. Oh, and expect for him to fall over many times... not necesarily not breathing, but he can be a master at the stumble and fall... oh, and JayDub is right, how can a man with such a furious signature not be a mad man... ok thats all i got...

i would even be ok with L.A. making it to the NBA championship and get swept. I think that that would be hilarious. I would hate to draw the Lakers first round. if the playoffs were to fall into place as i would have them, the Lakers would play the Kings and we would play the T-wolves. I hope we dont have to play either the Kings or the Lakers, or the spurs for that matter. Why? Im to sure that we are good enough to beat them in a best of seven series. We have an excellent team this year, but i dont know if it is good enough to win it all if we had to meet two or maybe even three of those teams.

My name is Brandon (arent I creative). I only went to 1 game in the 2001 season, i listened to the NMSU game and watched the NO bowl. When i found out that UNT was going to TU i jumped at the opportunity (TU was my favorite school at that time). It was during this trip that i found my true colors. I went to every home game TCU, Tu, and the NO bowl. I am currently a student at NCTC gainesville. I am planning on transferring to UNT this fall. GMG!

I heard somewhere that the men may be good enough this year to make it to NIT. That would be cool. Im looking forward to the season. The games are a bunch of fun to go to.
