  1. I think you are correct. The teams it helps most are the big time programs that lose undergradulates to the NBA.
  2. Per DMN, after repeal of 5/8 rule; NT will have an additional ship to give this year.
  3. From Sun Belt Official Site. NT has led in all sports competition updated through golf and tennis championships April 27th, 2004 North Texas and Middle Tennessee have jumped into first and second place in the 2003-04 Vic Bubas Cup standings. The standings are updated through last week's golf and tennis championships. Four Sun Belt Conference championships remain - men's and women's track & field (May 7-9), softball (May 13-15) and baseball (May 26-29).
  4. to Men's Basketball Home Page Return to Mean Green Online Home Page Mean Green Basketball Signs Eastern Oklahoma State’s Simpson DENTON ( 4/22/04 ) – North Texas head basketball coach Johnny Jones has announced that Eastern Oklahoma State College’s Jeffrey Simpson has signed a National Letter of Intent to play with the Mean Green. A 6-8, 210-pound center, Simpson averaged 10.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season, helping lead the Mountaineers to a 22-9 record and to the Region II Semifinals. Simpson shot 58 percent from the field and 62 percent at the free throw line his soph
  5. Chris White is listed at 6'6 280. Seems like a stretch. Averaged 11 points and was not in the top 10 in the conference or top 2 rebounders on his team. His team also had 3 all conference players and he was not one of them. Maybe more to the story, but he does not seem to be a high level recruit.
  6. Bill Blakeley not only complained, that is what got him fired. Back in the day, college coaches were popular guests on the sports talk shows. Bill took that opportunity more then once to lament NT's almost non existent basketball recruiting budget and what little support was available for the program. Not a wise decision to publically bash your own program if you want to stay employed. For the record, Blakeley was not very successful recruiting. His three 20 games winning seasons were largely a result of having inherited a lot of talent recruited by Gene Robbins. Fred Mitchell, Melvin
  7. Some should remember that it was the plan under Helwig to concentrate on Basketball and bring it up to a championship level before football. Unfortunately, Trilli proved to be probably the poorest coach in NT history. However, I don’t believe you can blame Trilli for Jones inability to recruit in his first three years. Look at Baylor, you wouldn’t think anyone could be successful there, but the coach has done well considering the situation. Recruiting has always been a problem at NT in basketball. IMHO part of NT historical problem is that either because they don’t have the resources or
  8. I have never been there, but I assume that TWU's gym is much better than the Snake Pit. The objective of the two site tournament is to redue the time away from school for the players.
  9. Brebeuf Jesuit has been accused of recruiting by other state teams. The two NT signees had to share the ball with a 6'6 freshman, who has already committed to Purdue. Obviously the two NT signees' numbers are down from the previous season, but both should be very good college players.
  10. Erskin started a few games when the prior starter was injured at UT. He had great success comming off the bench and was in fact the high point man in a lot of their playoff games. Miller averaged 13 minutes and about 3 points and rebounds a game. Both contributed to their teams, but the question was it worth it considering they would have got a lot more minutes and touches at NT. Erskin would have ended up as one of NT all time scoring leaders. Miller would have started and probably played 30 minutes a game. Both however played for Trilli, and that was enough to make anyone transfer.
  11. Watching Tech, Okla State game, Jason Miller was sent in with 25 seconds to go in mop up time. I wonder if Jason and Deginald Erskin ever regret leaving NT for perceived greener pastures. Deginald was a lot more successful than Jason, however neither started. Question is it better to be a secondary player on the highest level of college basketball or a go to player at NT. It shows how far NT has to go when its best players can't crack the starting lineup at the top schools. In my opinion most players had rather play more on a less successful team.
  12. AREA player of the year: AMBER JACKSON Brebeuf Jesuit player is queen of the court Brebeuf Jesuit senior forward Amber Jackson, who averaged 13.8 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.5 blocks this season, led her team to the Class 3A title. She will attend the University of North Texas next season. -- Rich Miller / The Star Related content • Brebeuf Jesuit player is queen of the court • Girls basketball honor team Star report March 11, 2004 StarNorth and Hamilton County A.M. cover one of Indiana's most concentrated areas of girls' high school basketball talen
  13. Slinker has had about 4 winning seasons out of 15. I don't know which is worse the fact that in the game against MTSU, NT was totally humiliated or the fact that no one seems to care. Losing 42-15 at the half is as bad as it gets.
  14. Hillenbrand Invitational Game 5 - North Texas vs. UTEP North Texas used a 14-hit attack to trounce Texas El-Paso 9-1 in second-day action at the Hillenbrand Invitational softball tournament. UNT improved to 1-1 in tourney play and 7-23 overall. UTEP dropped to 0-3 and 3-10 after losing both is Saturday games. North Texas' Susan Waters doubled to lead off the second inning, and scored after Kelei Walker's single. Walker rounded first and was caught at second, but Waters reached home and beat a tag after the 1-3-5-4 pickoff. Katy Maxy scored on a balk by Malia Simmons and Heather Bosti
  15. This is the brother of the Jermaine Green that played for NT.
  16. res1dg16 maybe referring to the official site that has not reporting soccer signings, although several were reported in the DMN.
  17. Minor complaint about NT Official Athletic Board. The following report on the women's golf team is an example. I am disappointed in the reporting that goes on in the non-revenue sports. This is not just NT but I think it is fairly typical. I had to go cruising the internet to find out that NT finished 13th out of 14 teams and finished at 998, 129 between the leader. More information please. NT fans can stand the truth. North Texas Golf Closes Out Strong In Arizona TUCSON, Ariz. 18. Well only a few years ago, Basketball was supposed to be were our emphasis was. Vic Trilli was going to led the way for NT sports programs. Back in the stone age when I attended NT, NT had probably the best basketball and football teams in NT's history at the same time. The Joe Hamilton led basketball team had 18 wins in the best conference in the nation at the time. The football team that included Joe Greene, Steve Ramsey, Cedric Hardman, etc was not bad either.
  19. What lack of respect are you talking about. From the school, the crowd? I've always thought NT cheerleaders were super talented and did an excellent job until this basketball season, What has changed?
  20. There are 32 cheerleaders listed on their site. It looks like you could schedule enough to have at least eight at the game. Is this all some kind of protest by the cheerleaders versus the Ath. Dept?
  21. I hope NT qualifies, if not the tournament will be in serious trouble. Losing 3 starters from the team will make it a challenge for NT to qualify.
  22. Last night's game was a prime example of the Denton support UNT has. A Chamber of Commerce meeting was held that attendees took up nearly all the Pit side of Fouts field parking. I assume that UNT is involved in this meeting to help promote UNT and hopefully increase attendence for the game. It is pitiful that not more than a handful at most, could make the effort to support UNT through their attendence by walking 50 feet from the Gateway Center and going to the game. Another subject, Why can't UNT schedule the weekday games at 7:30 and give the DFW fans a chance of avoiding some of th
  23. Great showing by the students that attended the game, but to say that the student attendence of about 500 is great out of a school the size of UNT is dismal. I agree students section should be moved to a better section and why don't the cheerleaders perform in front of the student section.
