  1. Let’s get this straight: Neal Smatresk, the popular president of UNLV, who makes close to a half-million dollars a year and is pursuing various game-changing projects, now wants to take over at a university most of us had never heard of, in a town where the largest private employer is Peterbilt trucks, the summers are hot and humid, and wailing tornado sirens are tested monthly. The move also puts him within an hour’s drive of Sidney Lynn, his first grandchild. And there you have it. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2013/nov/26/why-6-1-2-pound-baby-girl-affecting-two-universiti/
  2. We also have to remember that the other bowls: New Orleans Heart of Dallas Hawaii Beef O'Bradys Can choose from teams 2-5 #6 - Goes to the Military Bowl in DC - and right now, we are #6 in CUSA, and we fill other spots an necessary. Basically, we HAVE to the win this weekend - other scenarios include -- Either Rice losing (both 6-2 and we have tie breaker) or Tulane losing (us 6-2, them 5-3) or UTSA losing (6-6, 5-3 -- only have 6 wins when there are 7 win teams in conference).

  6. http://www.meangreensports.com/bowlinfo.html North Texas is bowl eligible for the first time since 2004 and may earn an invitation to one of the six bowl games to which Conference USA has ties. Below are the games to which North Texas may be invited. If the Mean Green receives a bowl invitation, tickets will be sold by the North Texas Athletic Ticket Office. However, fans will be able to secure tickets through this page before the end of the regular season, so check back here soon. From this page, fans will be able to go to Ticketmaster's website, enter your Mean Green account information, and select which bowl games you would like to attend if North Texas is invited. You may select more than one bowl, but you are not purchasing tickets to all the bowls you select. You will only be charged IF North Texas is invited to one of the bowls you have selected.
  7. They predict the Mean Green winning CUSA and playing the Tennessee Vols in the Liberty Bowl. http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/11/3/5060878/bowl-projections-2013-predictions
  8. But wait: yet another black uniform appears! Probably the best one out of the bunch, worn by North Texas against Rice (who decided to squeeze out the last drops of Pinktober).
  9. Living in DC, that would be an awesome game - but damn its going to be cold
  10. Let's PLEASE stop the Dr. Monticino talk!! As much as people might like him, he will NOT be the next president of UNT. He may be a great person and an advocate for athletics, but UNT is looking for someone who has been a president before. They are not looking for someone that who is training on the job. UNT is in an excellent position to make a big splash with this hire and I am confident they will. They are looking for someone like Dr. Rawlins, but 20 years younger.
  11. Looks like the board will be making an announcement soon about the new UNT President. It is important to remember that Dr. Rawlins contract ends on December 31. State law requires 21 days before a person can be officially be named President on a permanent basis. The board has a meeting on Sunday to do the final interview with someone for the job and then it looks like they will make their decision on Monday on the new person!! Exciting time at UNT. One can only imagine who this person will be. There are a ton of really amazing jobs open currently. 15. There is hope. I was looking at the bill language (and unless there was a change) the BOR does have power to raise the fee no more than 10% without a student vote. SECTION BY SECTION ANALYSIS SECTION 1. Amends Subchapter E, Chapter 54, Education Code, by adding Section 54.5191, as follows: Sec. 54.5191. INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS FEE; UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS. (a) Authorizes the board of regents of the University of North Texas System to charge each student enrolled at the University of North Texas (UNT) an intercollegiate athletics fee in an amount not to exceed $10 per semester credit hour for each semester or summer session. (Requires a student enrolled in more than 15 semester credit hours to pay the fee in an amount equal to the amount imposed on a student enrolled in 15 semester credit hours during the same semester or session. © Prohibits the fee from being charged before the first semester a new football stadium is available for use at UNT. (d) Requires that if compulsory student services fees are charged to students enrolled at UNT under Section 54.503 (Student Service Fees), the total amount of those fees charged to a student be reduced by $3 per semester credit hour for the first semester in which an intercollegiate athletics fee is charged under this section. (e) Authorizes revenue from the fee charged under this section to be used only for financing, constructing, operating, maintaining, or improving an athletic facility or for operating an intercollegiate athletics program at UNT. (f) Prohibits the fee from being charged unless approved by a majority vote of the students enrolled at UNT who participate in a general student election held for that purpose. Requires that the ballot for the election to approve the fee state a maximum amount of the fee that may be charged per semester credit hour, not to exceed the maximum amount prescribed by Subsection (a). (g) Prohibits the amount of the fee from increasing to an amount that exceeds by 10 percent or more the amount of the fee as last approved by a student vote under Subsection (f) or this subsection unless the increase has been approved by a majority vote of the students enrolled at UNT who participate in a general student election held for that purpose. (h) Requires the chief fiscal officer of UNT to collect the fee and deposit the revenue from the fee in an account to be known as the intercollegiate athletics fee account. (i) Provides that a fee charged under this section is not considered in determining the maximum amount of student services fees that may be charged each student enrolled at UNT under Section 54.503 (Student Service Fees).
  16. PLEASE NOTE: The SSF and Athletics Fee are TWO DIFFERENT THINGS. The fee that was raised by 10% is the Student Service Fee. By State law, that is the max the BOR can raise it without student approval. This is used for things like Counseling and Testing, and Student Activities. Because we went to an Athletics Fee, Athletics is no longer able to get any SSF monies as it had in the past.
  17. Finishing strong 6th place (-11), 1 shot out of 5th and 4 shots out of 4th.

  21. Nine projects that total $115 million and will serve as a blue print for the success and growth of intercollegiate athletics at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette for decades to come, highlight the Athletics Facilities Master Plan. MASTER PLAN Here is a synopsis of the projects included in the Master Athletic Facilities Plan: Renovation of Cajun Field • Five construction phases that could ultimately raise capacity to over 65,000. • The first step of the first phase is to add 5,900 seats to south end zone, allowing for the remaining expansion to be done without losing use of Cajun Field or playing a season with a diminished capacity. • The main phase will feature the addition of a structure on the west side that will include 23,500 square feet of office space for the athletic administration, 1,200 club seats, 128 loge seats and 37 box suites. It will replace the current press box and include either changes or replacement of the current upper deck seating. • Also included in the main phase is an upper level of seating on the east sideline, adding 9,546 seats that will bring capacity to 50,000. Athletics Practice Facility Located adjacent to the Leon Moncla Indoor Practice Facility and on some of the space currently being used for the football practice fields, the 71,000 square foot facility will create new space for athletic training, equipment and strength and conditioning and house the offices for the football program. Football Amenities In The APF (24,000 square feet) • Includes office space for head coach, assistant coaches and administrative and support staff. • 4,800 square feet of meeting space, including a main auditorium that seats 130-150 people that can be broken down into multiple meeting rooms. • Video editing suite and storage facilities that include video distribution and viewing areas for pro scouts. • Locker room facilities for the football team, coaching staff and visitors. Earl K. Long Gym Opened in 1939, currently serving as the home of women’s basketball and volleyball, historic Earl K. Long Gym will get a face lift. Renovating the existing space will project a more modern look. Culotta Tennis Center One of the newest athletic facilities, Culotta Tennis Center will get an update, building expanded locker room and office space, increasing outdoor lighting and creating a four-court indoor facility added to allow year-round practice and playing. Golf Practice Facility At a site to be determined in the near future, office and locker room facilities will be built to allow the Ragin’ Cajuns a place to call home throughout the year.
