  1. I am planning on being there with a couple of friends! One of which is a big TT fan- how about that!
  2. "Our defensive ends and line backers got their hands on alot of balls today" I know there is a joke here somewhere-? Anyway, the defense really shined today. Since the DE's were in the backfield all day, I guess our current OT's have more to learn. I know Gilmore will be a great DE so I hope our OT's are learning from Gilmore/Chatman/Burris/Stewart, because there are going to be many very good DE's in OOC play and in SBC play! I see Coach Dodge is moving OL guys around to gain experience and to add depth. I read that Santiago was moved to OG also. I beleive Peachy will be fine OT, and I hope Menard is "learning" with on the job training at OT. Who knows for sure, but, this OL may turn out better than we expect! Too bad about Nurudeen. I have had a sprained pectoral muscle myself-this injury hurts! You just got to let the injury heal itself, with normal ice/heat/drugs/rest therapy. I am encouraged with the defensive play and I beleive they can be pretty salty this year. I just hope the OL develops, and our QB can get the passes off quickly, because if our QB is running for his life, well- you know what happens.
  3. I really hope Jamario is healthy! I want him to have a big year this season! With Coach Dodge's no huttle spread offense, the running back is featured more than you think. Once the offense spreads out the defense, I do not think there will be 8 or 9 in the "box" to try to stop Jamario. This offense should give Jamario more lanes and options, to use his speed! Cox, I beleive, is a very good running back also.He needs more opportunities, so, I hope Coach Dodge can work cox into more running plays as well as slot receiver. I watched some of Cam Montgomery's high light videos-WOW! This guy has it all- Big tall back back, great speed/moves! Runs over people! I can see Coach Dodge using Montgomery many differnt ways to take advantage of his tallents. Our new recruit, Mosley-I am excited about this guy coming in this fall. Maybe Coach Dodge can use him as a SR or WR. Put up big numbers in HS, 3 year starter! I beleive our running game is going to be a big advantage for us this season!
  4. This story does not tell me much that I already know. One injury here or there over the season, and we are possibly in trouble. As far as Josh Alexander, I read his injury is still nagging him, and even though he wants to come back, getting hurt again could be dangerous. He may not make it back at all. So Peachy and Menard will be the starting tackles-which one is RT and LT? Venegas will be one guard, and looks like Nick Foster will be the other. Rose and Drake at center. Rose can go to G if needed. What happened to Chris Eidd-I thought he was making strides also? What about the back-ups- who/positions? Banks is working on grades, so I hope he can come back in the fall. I still say Matt Tomlinson, the recruit coming in this fall will see playing time. Well, if these young guys can develop, NT could have a pretty good line in the future. Add in some quality OL recruits in 2008, NT could really be in good shape with the OL.
  5. I was really impressed with Truman Spence last year. Very good punter- He could punt the ball very high-good hang time-when needed, as well as punt to the corners of the field. I can only remember one shank punt due to a heavy rush. Good punts into heavy wind also. I am excited about Steve Woodward- this was highly touted, and highly recruited- Do not know how he came to NT but I am glad we got him. Hopefully we will not have to worry about another 7 overtime game again! Woodward can hit FG's from 50 yards out! This guy and Spencer can be our secret weapons on special teams. Speaking of special teams, I like the fact that atleast 10-12 guys can play on our specail teams-alot of down field speed!
  6. Speaking of snapping the ball- who will handle the deep snapping duty this year? I remember B Davidson handled the deep snap duty, then did not Gilmore also handle deep snap duty also?
  7. Boy, am I glad NT has several good experienced safeties comming back! Also, Greg Garden from Navy, will be availble I beleive in 2008. Latif Nurudeen, the "walk on" from Baylor is making strides. I never like to see the safety position leading a defense in tackles, so, hopefully the experience and depth at the LB position, and our good DE's, can pressure the QB's this year, and make the safeties job alittle easier!
  8. Sykes is just a few biscuits and gravy away from being a monster NT!
  9. All 10 points are very important to the long term goals of NT and NT athletics. For now, I see the most important goal is to build a quality FB stadium which will support recruiting and attendence. Next, WINNING! There are thousands of NT alums in the DFW metroplex and across the state. Start winning again in football and the fans will come, along with the donor$. Tie in the success of the BB team, and you have 2 very strong progams that will sell themselves. This will snow ball into greater success for all 10 points listed. Why is it, many posters beleive that NT must suck up to the other conferences, and beg for admission. I say the other conferences will be sucking up to NT very soon and want NT to join their conference. Start with a new stadium, start winning and beating the crap out of the mid-majors, and before you know it, NT will have 50,000 fans coming to the games. With the north Texas metroplex growing in leaps and bounds, I can see why Coach Dodge can see NT as the metroplex's team! So, stay in the SBC for now, build the stadium, get the NT alums /fans back to the Denton to proudly see the NT teams play, reguardless of who the opponent is going to be. Success begins here, and in my view, build it and they will come!
  10. I hope the weather does not mess up this scrimage- I would like to know which players are listed as 1st team offense and 1st team defense I beleive Coach Dodge and his staff may be talking to Woody about a possible position change. If this happens, I hope he can go to inside receiver to take advantage of his speed!
  11. Very good story and insite! I really like Coach Dodge's approach to his players- Coach Dodge and his staff reconize the variety of skills these players have, and the coaching staff is going to take advantage of these skills. Coach Dodge and his staff see all the players as important parts of the whole team, then create offensive and defensive plays that fit the players skills. that is coaching and a winning approach if you ask me!
  12. I want NT to develop all athletics, build a quality FB stadium, and start winning in all sports. Winning will bring the fans and $ support. Instead of NT chasing a conference, the conferences will be chasing NT! Build it and they will come! The whole DFW metroplex is growing, especially north of Big D. I can see NT becoming the "Metroplex" team. With all of our fan base currently here in DFW, winning will start the ball rolling and bring in the fans. I personally have met NT alumni that could care less about NT. Guess what- the same folks are now very interested in NT athletics, since we have Coach Dodge for football, and the success of Caoch Jones and our BB team. And, our new pres- Dr B, the more I read about all the work she is accomplishing, pro-athletics, etc- the more impressed I am. It all starts at the top!
  13. I agree with GrayEagleOne--"where are all the bodies"? Unless you count all the DE's. It is a long season, so, if one or two guy's get banged up, who will step in? I can see both of our new recruits playing this year. I saw there were 2 walk ons for the DL, but, I do not know anything about these 2. I wonder if any of the DE's could fill in if we lose a guy, or, one of the OL backup's?
  14. With our interior DL very thin as far as backup NT and DT positions- the whole defense is going to need the 4-6 LB's that have game experience. I can see our opponents trying to run up the middle of the DL again this year.
  15. Defensive line- No Depth-I am worried! The strong point will be our DE's- very good starters and back up's. My concern is the interior DL guys. I like Stevenson's move from DE to NT. He is a player! I like Miller at DT. This will be his year! How long can these guys play in a game? I do not see Thomas as a starter, but more of a back up at NT or DT. After these 3 guy's- who is left? Stewart is a RFr, 6-2, 270lbs. I can see our new DL recruit, Jesse Desoto, 6-2, 280lbs, getting alot playing time, and maybe even Jordan Scoggins, 6-1,275lbs. I will bet DL will be a recruiting target for 2008! So, the burden of the defense will be on our DE's and LB's. If our interior DL can just maintain there positions, we may be OK.
  16. I was poking around collegefotballnews.com, over to team directory, NT, then FB prospects- There are 7 players listed. I am not a computer wizard so I did not know how to post the info- Anyway, 4 listed players for 2008, caught my eye: Celina HS, Troy Franklin, DT,6-4, 250lbs, NT,Ark,Oky ST;ATM,TT,Tulsa Sherman HS,Jeremy Gray,DE,6-6,235lbs, NT,Kan,MO,OK,Oky St,TX Argyle HS, Ben Parks,K,6-1,188lbs, NT,Iw ST,Cream of Rice,TCU,Princeton,$muts Glendale Ca JC, Grant Valentine,DE,6-3,240lbs,NT,Ohio State, Miss Hey--NT is competing against the "Big Boys" for recruits!
  17. Looks like Santiago is a good football player because the coaches have moved him into the OG position, but, which one, LG or RG? I beleive Peachy is a RT. If Santiago is a RG, then you have 2 guys at 6-5 on the right side. Menard is 6-5 also. I guess he will play LT. Venegas must be the LG. Looks like Eidd and Foster will be back-ups. I still think Tomlinson, the 6-5 LT recruit will see playing time this year. Where is Carlson at this point? He is a OT also. If Santiago is off the DL, who taks his spot? I know we are thin at DT also. I am just speculating on all of this "musical chairs" position changes, so I will just trust Coach Dodge and his staff. I beleive Coach Dodge is putting together the best players at each position, to run his offense and defense. I am glad to see that Meager is picking up the offense, and looks to be seperating from the rest of the group of QB's.
  18. Every year it is the muts this, the muts that- Geez, I get the tired head form hearing the build up on how great the muts are going to be- I beleive they lost their entire good OL core this year to graduation, so they will have some holes to fill. I do not see another 35-0 blow out this year against NT! I beleive Troy will be the team this year, again. They have recruited very well the past 2 years, and they have a very good QB and OL back. Read the SBC preview on Troy-they have about 20 OL and 16 DL listed-not counting TE's and DE's. They are loaded with quality players. NT always plays Troy tough. The game always comes down to a busted play or a defensive stand, or a lucky break. This year will be totally different! Both the muts and Troy will be in for a surprise! Wait until they see "Dodge Ball" up close and personal!
  19. This is a great story! I am a "old" time Hayden Fry era fan, so, I agree with Silver Eagle- Forget the X's and O's, this is all about attitude and a winning approach to every detail of what a good coach and staff brings to NT! The 150 coaches from TX,AR,MO, and other states, made the trip to Denton to see NT and meet the staff. All of these coaches are from top HS football programs. Every one of these coaches will welcome any of Coach Dodge's staff to their schools during recruiting! Coach Dodge and his staff are doing an amazing job! Just wait and see what a winning season will bring!
  20. Illuvius32- I cannot go to any of the practices, so I wanted to say "Thanks" for your reports-- and "Thanks" to ETMG for his reports also! I have a question for you- You mentioned that NT may be starting 2 very green candidates at OT-- Who are the candidates for LT/RT, and is their a 2 deep rotation? Thanks Charlie NT73
  21. I agree with Lazer, that the o-line may become a concern. Why? First, a lack of depth. There are 13 OL players listed on the current roster, but, Brown has left the team, Alexander is not healthy, and Banks is working on grades (will he be back for the fall?). That leaves 10 players, and 3 are centers. I read some of the SBC prospectus on some of the other schools. Troy, had 20 OL players and 16 DL players listed. That count did not include TE's and DE's. (May include walk on's) Lose a OL guy to injury, is there a good backup? Second, the OT position. Only Peachy and Carlson have OT game experience. The other OT candidates are RFr's or former walk on's. I can see why the coaches are working hard on Menard at OT, and playing musical chairs with the other players at other OL positions. I really beleive 2 of the new OL recruits, center JJ Johnson and OT Matt Tomlinson will have a very good opportunity to play and maybe even start this season. Either way, these 2 will certainly be welcomed.
  22. ETMG, offensive tackle, and defensive tackle questions- Jemery Brown not returning? That is a surprise! Whats the story here? Who were the guys working at OT? I know Menard and Peachy are OT's- What about Eidd, Carlson, and Crumes, are these guys OT's Do you know which players were working at OT during the scrimage? DT's- was Montey Stevenson moved from DE to DT? Did Isaac Thomas get more reps in this scrimage than the other DT's? Was Santiago, Ridge, and Miller working at DT? How did they look? Thanks- Charlie
  23. I lived in Helena Al for 7 years, and I can assure you the Alabama fans are passionate about Alabama football. The practice of naming their kids after Univ of Alabama coaches and players is not uncommon. There are alot of kids named "Paul", "Bear", "Bryant", "Bama", etc- I remember a proud father actually named his son, "Rolltide", and another family that had a baby girl, named "Crimson" The same holds true for Auburn coaches and players- In Alabama, you are either a Bama fan or a Auburn fan, nothing else is allowed.
  24. EastTexasMG-- You mention the guy with the #9 jersey was a QB- Who is this mystery man?
