  1. CUSA was in five bowls this year, SBC was in two. CUSA is ranked at #10 currently in RPI, while SBC is ranked #21. CUSA has the preseason pick for #1 baseball team in the nation. Moving to CUSA is definitely an upgrade, even if you leave out the fact that we'd be playing against teams with much greater draw than any SBC team.
  2. The majority of the seats are far away from the field (in the upper decks or endzone).
  3. For 2005-2006, Louisiana Tech received $892,091 more in conference revenue than UL-Lafayette did.
  4. The football stadium is what keeps us in the Sun Belt. From how horrible it is, to how few people we can get in the stands because of that, to not being able to schedule any decent home games because no one will come to Fouts. If we wait until we can sell out Fouts, we're going to be revisiting this issue in 2057. Those of us who are still alive, anyways.
  5. The stadium needs to be a minimum of 40,000 seats in a lower U shaped bowl, and built with expansion to 70 or 80,000 in mind. We need to assume that 40 or 50 years from now the school will be in a BCS conference, or whatever it's called at the time, and plan appropriately. No sense in leaving future generations in the same situation we're in now because of stupid decisions in the 1950's.
  6. I wonder if alums of UT-Austin care this much about what UTD and UTA do with their branding.
  7. That was actually the part that made me identify with him more. He has a job to do for the schools who hired him, and he's doing the best he can to benefit those schools. It's up to the non-BCS conferences to do the best job they can and get things changed, or better yet, the spineless NCAA step up and do something.
  8. Some of us have been following the program for years, and are tired of losing and seeing the same patterns over and over again. Maybe he turns it around and wins it all in the SBC and gets our first NCAA bid since Reagan was president. Personally I'd sooner put money on the Rangers winning the World Series this year. And before you come back with your broken logic, this isn't me sitting here hoping that NT loses the rest of the games on the schedule. This is me being upset with our lack of progress as a program.
  9. DFW is a tool for a basketball coach. Thinking otherwise is completely idiotic.
  10. The only thing that would keep a coach from coming here is if he could make more money somewhere else. A 10,000+ person arena, brand new athletic center, and within 20-30 miles of one of the most talent-laden areas of the country? Any good coach could turn that into an NCAA appearance within 2 years, tops. Especially in the Sun Belt.
  11. He might turn out to be great, but the fact that he's only being offered a walk-on spot at TCU/SMU bothers me.
  12. We've beaten Charlotte, Rice, Tulsa, Texas State (SWT), SFA, Nicholls St, Western Kentucky, and Denver. We've lost to UT-Arlington, Nebraska (badly), New Orleans, and now UALR. 8-4 isn't bad, except our competition has been mediocre so far, Western Kentucky aside (they're highly overrated, though). You say it's only one game, but it's been 4 games now. A horrible loss to UTA who was taken down by the Division III powerhouse UTD the other night. A pounding by an extremely average Nebraska team. A double over time loss to New Orleans in a shoebox. And now this double digit loss to UALR. I'm sorry, but JJ isn't the man to take us to 32 or the sweet 16. I have no idea who is, but it's just not him. I hope RV sees that after this season and we start our search for a new HC. Should we end up in the tourney, I'll gladly eat crow.
  13. I'd rather they wait to start baseball until we can get a nice stadium built for it. I hate the idea of people wanting to add a sport in an inferior facility just so we can have the sport. Do it right or wait until we can. None of this $1 million stadium bullshit.
  14. Yes, you got it right. We all want North Texas to FAIL. Or maybe it's that we're all sick of seeing how bad at coaching JJ seems to be. He's a great assistant coach who can do some wonderful recruiting, but he doesn't have what it takes to coach at the D1 level. I was pumped in '03-04, and '04-'05 because I thought we were getting somewhere. '05-'06 ended up being the same as '04-'05, and '06-'07 isn't looking much different. Bottom-dweller teams are scoring record points against us (New Orleans, UALR), we miss free throws at clutch moments in the game, and seem to have very little on the court in the way of a game strategy. The bball program is spinning its wheels. This isn't a knock on JJ in any personal way. One of the classiest guys I've ever met. We just need someone who can push this program forward.
  15. Honestly, we already have it. President Bataille is pushing athletics even further than Pohl did (not to discount Pohl, he was a savior)We've fired a losing coach for football and brought someone in who impresses (at least on paper)The basketball team has had some quality wins this year (Rice, Tulsa, Charlotte, Western Kentucky)We have $1.5 million that's being used to draw up plans for the stadium (ie. it's no longer a pipe dream)The school is hitting record enrollment, and starting to receive more endowmentsThere are also negatives, obviously, but those are really things we can't do much about right now. We needed a better football stadium yesterday, we need baseball, and we need more recognition nationally for academics and research. All of those are coming, but they take a while to complete and aren't something you can just flip the switch on. If Conference USA loses a member or two, and if they decide to expand back to 12, we're the most logical choice at this point in time. A lot of the time, though, logic is the last thing they care about; see UTEP in CUSA. It's not that UTEP isn't a strong pick so much as it's a team way out west with no traveling partner.
  16. I'd like to know if the Dodge hiring (DD firing) is creating more opportunities like the $1.5 million donation last month.
  17. It'll be difficult since most of DFW follows UT-Austin. Even with TCU being ranked, they still didn't sell out their games against teams like BYU and Air Force. They came pretty close with TTU. Nothing against TCU, but they can't get 45,000 people in the stands at a decent stadium (and convenient) to watch a team that's been top 25 for a couple years now unless they're playing a name Texas opponent. What could we do to possibly draw more than that, outside of upsetting someone that isn't possible to upset?
  18. I prefer XM due to MLB and NHL (becomes exclusive to XM next season). I'd certainly take either one over local radio, but I wish they'd find a way to up the sound quality.
  19. No one wants to ditch 'Mean Green'. People just want a recognizable logo. There are at least 75 schools in those same divisions that use interlocking letters, and a huge amount more if you include schools that run all of their letters together left to right, or have a letter in the background with text on top of it. The new eagle is drawn well and is an updated version of probably the school's most recognizable logo ever.
  20. It's... Baylor, Auburn, Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ok. State, Oregon, Southern Alabama, USC, Southern, Syracuse, Texas Tech, Virgina Tech, and West Virginia So if we just change our logo to the interlocked NT, we'd be an elite school like those.
