If the Big East were raiding, would they go after Memphis, East Carolina, and possibly 2 MAC teams? Seems like that conference has the most to lose, because there's very little out there that would boost their position as a BCS conference. They would have to rely on the Pac 10 dismantling the MWC. I think this all might be a bit oversimplified. The Big 12 could conceivably lose Colorado to the Pac 10 and Iowa State or Missouri to the Big 10. All of the sudden they're left with two slots to fill. If they want to stay in Colorado, they could pick up Colorado State from the MWC. If the Big East snatches up Memphis, then the most logical candidates for the 12th spot are TCU, Houston, UTEP, and North Texas. Just no way of knowing what's going to happen at the end of all of this. The best case scenario for us is that TCU stays in the MWC after being raided by the Pac 10 for Utah, and lobbies for us as a travel partner. CUSA is going to look pretty ugly at the end of this. Well, actually the best case scenario is North Texas in the Big 12. But we're about 10-20 years too early for that. Regarding the Super Pit, did anything ever come from the AD asking for improvement suggestions? We definitely need a center scoreboard, to replace that section occupied entirely by media with chairbacks, and add more/better concessions and a spirit shop.

Definitely yearning for some Mean Green Baseball now that basketball season is over. I'm sure RV's attention will turn to getting everything in place for baseball once our 2011 football season is over. Really hoping for a team of some sort in 2013. That said, I don't want them to rush. The early renderings they showed of a possible baseball stadium were just awful. Let's build it right!

My impression is that the only one this year was A&M. Boise State, I thought, was us having an opening that we needed to fill and they were available.

For the most part, I don't think we're scheduling single away games anymore unless we need to fill an opening. The Super Pit hasn't been too kind to OOC teams the past few years (Oklahoma State, Indiana State, Tulsa, SHSU, NMSU, etc). We might get some bottom feeders from the 'major' conferences like LSU and Texas Tech coming into Denton. Those with something to lose, however, like Xavier, Baylor, Illinois, Memphis, Ole Miss, Miss. State, etc probably would not even do a 2-1 with us.

No MWC, CUSA, or Big 10?

The crowds have gotten bigger, though. Yes, we did have that span during Christmas break where attendance wasn't as high. The final game at the Pit this year had 4,377 people. When I started going to games in 2003, the average game had about 1200-1500 people. The only times I can remember it getting above 3,000, it was for TCU and Indiana. As the program continues to build, more and more will continue to show up.

No, they would not have gotten in. Houston got a 13 seed because they beat both UTEP and Memphis twice. Memphis' only quality win outside of the conference was thrashing an early season Oakland team. UTEP ran the table in CUSA, and had one quality win against NMSU. Houston got a 13 seed based on the strength of their conference, where NT got a 15 seed based on the strength of its conference. If Houston had a record similar to ours, I have no doubt they would have received a 10 or even a 9 or 8 seed.

Whatever happens, I hope that we can move to another conference. Absolutely floored that a mediocre team out of Houston gets a 13 seed after winning the CUSA tournament, and we get a 15 seed after 11 straight wins and taking the SBC tournament. It isn't 100% the conference's fault as we had 2-3 games we should have handled, but the fact that winning our conference tournament nets us a 15 seed, behind such powerhouse conferences as Summit, Ohio Valley, Big Sky, Southland, MAAC, and Southern is abysmal. I used to say that we should stay and build the conference. I'm tired of it. I want out. Edit: Corrected WKU part and added more conferences.

Pretty awful job by the selection committee. Houston at 13 just doesn't even make sense.

Their basketball category is way off. I have a hard time believing that the Super Pit is a run of the mill basketball facility. Being at both Moody and Daniel-Meyer is proof enough of that. If they want a conference built on what schools did a long time ago, I agree with La. Tech ahead of us. If they want a conference that's competitive, I'd go with the school who's been in the tournament 2 of the last 4 years over the one that hasn't been in two decades. With football, I just don't know what to say. Ranking a team's facilities at #1 because they use an off-site NFL stadium? I guess Tulane has one of the best stadiums in the country. Edit: Just realized they put us behind Thomas Assembly Center (La. Tech), haha. That place is a dive with the majority of the seating on the upper level.

I'm not talking about how a particular team does in a sport. When someone says "major university" I just don't think of any of the Southland schools. I guess I'm alone in that.

Both SMU and TCU have the benefit of being located in major cities. North Texas is out of sight, out of mind. So like you said, unless we do something amazing, that's how it is. But that's only for right now. Denton county is growing at an incredible pace, and all those people and families are looking for something to do. It's my opinion that that's one of the reasons why we're seeing increased attendance at both football and basketball. Basketball, of course, is growing more rapidly because of winning. I see us slowly getting more and more coverage as Dallas continues growing north and west. The DMN will eventually consolidate the DRC, and local TV starts running more stories about such far away places as Denton, Lewisville, and Flower Mound.

RPI wise, yeah, that stung. Teams can have off days or hot days from time to time. What looks ugly if you look at the schedule the way the committee will be is that we lost twice to a non-contender with one of them bordering on blowout territory.

There's a world of difference between CUSA/Sunbelt and the Southland. I'm sorry, but as nice as the UTA posters on the board are, I don't see UNT in the same category as UTA, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State-San Marcos etc.

They had a #12 seed last year and the year before, and South Alabama had a #10 at-large seed 2 years ago. It's possible, of course, that we could end up a #15 seed. However, I think our conference placement the last two years and us winning 11 straight gets us a #13, or hopefully, #12 seed. The biggest knock against us is going to be those two losses to Ark. State.

They have a fine basketball program, but I just have a hard time thinking of them in the same light as UNT, TCU, and SMU.

I don't see us being below a #13 seed. I'm hoping for #12.

UTA a major university? They don't even have a football team, and I can't remember the last time I ever saw anyone wearing UTA gear. I think it's great that they're finally getting rid of the stage, but FBS is the minimum qualification for 'major' in my mind.

Yeah well, one major university in DFW is in the tournament and on the front page of ESPN.com. The other two are not.

I don't know who would consider Frisco a destination area. It's basically just a bunch of chain restaurants, stores, and pretentious attitudes. (unless that's changed since 6 years ago)

How is the bill that much? Do you have 12 boxes? Taxes seem the same as Charter. Edit: maybe there's a lot of phone line taxes. Seems to me that phone lines are $25 or so, but by the time all the taxes and fees are added, they're $45-50.

Those same charges apply for DirecTV, though. iPhone I have no problems paying for, and I have no problems paying for FiOS (especially since my company pays the internet portion ).

DirecTV has steadily been moving towards crazy. When I first had service from them in late 2000, I had all their channels + Starz, HBO, Cinemax, and Encore for $59.99. That same package now, plus Showtime, is $109.99. Even if you added Showtime back then, it was still only $69.99. They've gone up $40 per month over the course of ten years. If you add HD (who wouldn't?) it's $119.99. There's crazy, and then there's DirecTV.

This is the MO with JJ teams. When he figures out how to get players to stop thinking about turkey, Christmas presents, and New Year's, we'll be a regular in the tourney and crack the sweet 16. Until then, we'll just be an above average Sunbelt team.
