There's not any good BBQ in Denton proper. I will die on that hill.
Before anyone gets defensive, I own an offset smoker and am friends with a UNT Alum that has a Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ spot in East Texas.
I agree with you. Metzler's isn't great.

I usually have more respect for Texas Monthly's BBQ rankings, as I am a huge BBQ fan, but some of these locations are quite a ways from their schools. I have not heard of Interstellar, and was in Austin last weekend (went to Franklin's).
Texas Monthly did not put this together. Whoever runs the TXFB twitter handle just grabbed the BBQ spot closest to each school that was ranked in Texas Monthly's top 50.

Bigger than the Redbud Festival? Bigger than the Storytelling Festival? When did Denton start this?
Not sure when it started, but at least a decade ago. There's a massive mural on Hickory St where the coffin races take place.

Tulane barely beat us last year with their all world QB, etc. They will have a new coach, system, etc. There is no reason we should not beat them.
No reason? How about losing 90% of our offense to the transfer portal and a defense that still looks extremely weak.

Never heard of it. Is this really such a big deal as to cause problems?
Yes. Outside of the Jazz Festival its the biggest event Denton has. Part of the Square is blocked off to traffic. Logistically and financially it doesn't make sense to have the events on the same day.
I know some really want the homecoming parade to return. Well, its not going to happen if they keep scheduling Homecoming the same weekend as Day of the Dead.

Tough opponent? We should have beat them last year. Personally, I hate posts that are state our opponent is tough. That should be worried about playing us.
It must really drive you crazy when our coaches and players say every team is tough. Let alone the program that's been at the top of the conference and ranked the last 2 years.

Sigh, another tough opponent...
Edit: and again, on the same weekend as Denton's Day of the Dead Festival.
Really sucks its once again on the same day as Day of The Dead and against a likely tough opponent, but unlike last year, I don't think we had much of a choice. Our October schedule is rough with only 1 home game, 2 road games, and a Bye.

Not questioning our ability to count seats. I’ve just been around enough construction projects in my career to realize sometimes things just get messed up. I remember there being some club seats they said were on the drawings that ended up just not being there when DATCU opened despite being on all the drawings. There’s a reason home inspectors find things missing or installed incorrectly in new home builds.
I think it has more to do with they don't know how many people are going to renew their tickets before the deadline. Once they know that then they can start to slot everyone based on MGSF points.
My only complaint is that I couldn't renew my season ticket online because they were trying to charge me an extra $240. I had an extra seat charged to me for $190 and they raised my MGSF contribution by $50.

Who do we think is the homecoming opponent this year?
September 28th against Tulsa may be too early but might be the best pick. Winnable game and by itself wouldn't be a high seller.
October 26th against Tulane I don't like the date and will still be a tough game.
November 9th against Army is winnable but I think would be a good attended game regardless.
Just wish we could also bring back the parade.
It's 100% going to be Tulane. UNT always has homecoming late October/early November. Last year we could have scheduled homecoming on 10/14 against dreadful Temple, but for whatever reason we opted for the much harder opponent, Memphis, on 10/28. This was also the same day as Denton's Day of the Dead Festival, which made the decision even more odd. I've never heard a reason why, but come hell or high water, UNT wants their homecoming later in the year. Even if the date doesn't make much sense like last year.

Tough shit, who cares. I hope he enjoys the NIL money.
Weird thing is I don't think he got a lot of NIL money. That's not something Cal is known for.

See my post above. Cravened.
Agreed he tends to let his homerism show in his writing, but I think he only has them ranked 1 spot too high. I would put Houston ahead of UTSA. They have more talent on paper and have proved it on the field the last two years.
I can't really argue with UNT's rank. Our offense is a question mark and I don't think we've done enough to fix our defense.

Does anyone know if there are pictures of the West Prairie St Pub? Looks like it closed years before my drinking days and I was curious to see what it looked like. I searched online and couldn't find anything.

Did they officially give them the whole week off? As a student from 14-17 I was still having classes on the Wednesday before if the professor was a big enough douche.
Looks like they get the whole week off now. Back in my days as a student (2008-2011), students were expected to attend class Monday and Tuesday while Wednesday was unofficially "off".

Delusional to think our fan base and student body support is the same as Baylors. Why has Apogee student attendance suffered? Kids these days are lazy AF.
Because we haven't had a winning season since 2018.

And the NCAA can easily do something:
1 - ONE free transfer for underclassmen, period. Anything else requires sit-out year. No fake medical/family transfer BS.
2 - all COVID-era freebies (extra year, etc) terminate after the 2023-2024 academic year.
3 - An additional free graduate transfer allowed, provided the player has spent 2 or more years at the current school.
Make it effective August 1, 2024.
Graduate transfers shouldn’t exist. None of these guys care about getting a graduate degree. It’s all being done to get a NIL bag. To prevent these mass exoduses, transfers should work something like this:
First transfer: No penalty.
Second transfer: Miss 6 games.
Third transfer: Miss season.

DCTF released their All-Texas Teams today. Great to see Chandler Rogers recognized on the second team after being snubbed by the AAC.
Only big complaint is Frank Harris winning "Best QB". Quinn Ewers, Chandler Rogers, and Preston Stone all had better years. Probably should have gone to Stone or Ewers since they both had great seasons and led their teams to the best finishes in the state.

That all conference selection demonstrates how little NT is respected.
Checked and it is selected by supposedly the coaches.
There were only four teams without one first team selection, NT, UAB, USF and Temple.
Number of all conference players (all three teams, 1st team)
Tulane 15,7
SMU 15,6
UTSA 14,5
Memphis 8,2
NT 6,0
FAU 5,2
Tulsa 5,1
ECU 4,1
Charlotte 4,1
Navy 2,2
Temple 2,0
UAB 2,0
Rice 1,1
USF 1,0
All conference teams are always bias in favor of winning teams. Does anyone really think the top 3 teams this year had 18 of the first team players, with the other 11 having 10? If that were true there would be a lot more lopsided scores than occured.
NT as is our fashion lost to SMU by 24
However, lost to Tulane by 7. Memphis by 3, and UTSA by 8; not exactly being blown out
I just wish for the players and fan's sake, that these teams would be taken a lot more seriously.
Pick one player per position, not several because a hard decision has to be made
Base it on current year play only
Get a notarized coach's signature on their selection or the on-line equivalent
Publish vote totals including all votes
QuoteChecked and it is selected by supposedly the coaches.
0% chance this is actually the case. There's no way Frank Harris tied for best QB, while Rogers got zero votes. This was orchestrated by the conference to make sure certain guys were awarded for their careers rather than who was the best in 2023.

Definitely some back door politics going on. Stone, Hennigan, and Rogers all deserve to be above Harris.
Rogers not even making the Honorable Mentions is super sketchy. Seems like the AAC was more concerned with honoring careers rather than what happened this season.

We were unofficially in the PAC with SDSU for a good year before it became public and even before that it was clear to Aresco we were aggressively tying to move up and might be successful.
PAC blew up. Bad luck. Snuck in to ACC. Good luck. Either way not a surprise to the AAC.
Also, again, attendance smack from UNT is insane. You have enough students to sell out our (and your) entire stadium, meanwhile we only have 6000 undergrads. And yet we've had significantly higher attendance than you this season.
We’ve been underwhelming the last few years. Of course attendance is going to suffer. What’s SMU’s excuse? String of solid seasons, moving to the ACC, chance for 10 wins, and spot in the conference championship and yet maybe only 12K show up? Really screams P5 material.

It was clear we were going to leave AAC, so you were added to replace. You're welcome.
Our success in establishing ourselves as a solid P3 team will put our recruiting clearly on that level, and that will allow players on the upper G5 level we might have recruited to filter down to your level, raising you up. You're welcome!
Clear you were leaving? Y'all were denied by the Big 12, ACC, and Pac 12 before the ACC got desperate enough to finally allow you admission if you played for free.
P.S. SMU fanbase really showed up to support the best season in decades on Saturday 🙄 maybe when the last home game is against Boston College people will finally care *sarcasm*

Does he wait next year for Aranada to slip and Baylor to be open? Maybe Arkansas?
He won't risk it. UTSA will be rebuilding next year. Good chance they don't even make a bowl. Traylor will take any P5 job he finds mildly attractive.
