  1. But UK is one of the prestigious men's basketball programs. Calipari has been in hot water here in Kentucky for his lack of NCAA tournament success in the past few years and UK likely can't raise the $$ to buy out is big contract. This is a gift to UK fans for sure. Kentucky fans expect a lot more from the men's basketball program than probably any other program. Absolutely brutal place with no excuses.
  2. I wanted to see Houton make it to the Final 4 again. Certainly, no shame in losing to Duke in the Sweet 16.
  3. I attended the Louisville game that year. That game was played in their old stadium not the new show piece UL has now. Made sure I purchased tickets in the covered seating area which was a good thing since it rained most of that game. UNT actually led briefly in that game 7-0. North Texas still leads the series though.
  4. I can understand him wanting to enroll at Texas St. TSU is a good school and San Marcos is a nice area as well as being near his parents. But why the hell would he even consider WKU. Most people that I know who moved from Texas to western KY (I live here) say almost the same exact comment to me. And that is, moving from Texas and living in KY was the most humbling experience of their lives. Why would you do that to yourself intentionally. San Marcos at half the NIL $ is a better choice. Of course, I think UNT is a better choice for him, but I am biased a bit on this.
  5. Well Georgia didn't seem to think the bowl game was irrelevant and they didn't seem to have transfer portal problems or key guys skipping the bowl game. Maybe the real answer is that the ACC is not a power football conference anymore. A 60-point blowout loss is pretty hard to make excuses about. 60 points! And this blowout begs the question is it even necessary to have a playoff beyond the 8 top ranked teams from the power conferences? I hate as much as any of you, but the reality is that 6 or 8 football programs will likely dominate the National Titles from here on unless there are changes.
  6. https://www.wbko.com/2023/11/27/wku-defensive-back-upton-stout-enters-transfer-portal/ Former UNT DB Upton Stout enters the portal from WKU. Upton became a star for the Hilltoppers.
  7. His bio says he made honor roll several years.
  8. Okay. Fair enough. So, GM only generates 150 times more revenue than TAMU yet pays their CEO only $29million/yr. And she has a hell of lot more to manage than the HC at TAMU. All the more reason to investigate these outsized coaching salaries. It will ruin college football if it hasn't already. Plenty of coaches sitting at home drawing huge severances too. There will only be about 6 or 7 schools that will win the national title every year from here on. TAMU & UT won't be one of those 6 or 7 schools anyway.
  9. And how does a company that generates $213M/yr. (TAMU athletic revenue) pay out one person $76M and survive financially? Coaching salaries are completely out of control, and I suspect it isn't fair market pricing, but collusion within the NCAA that accounts for these outsized salaries. Hell, Mary Bara makes $29M/yr. but General Motors generates $156Billion (700 times more!) in revenue. And she is overpaid!
  10. The worst rushing defense I have ever seen at the college level. Stone could have audibled the running plays as in "we are running Knighton up the middle" and this defense still couldn't have stopped SMU. SMU's size and athleticism were a notch or two better at every position on the defensive and offensive lines. SMU ran the ball and milked the clock in the 4th quarter which made the score seem closer. But I am still amazed the game was ever close and it was at the half. How can this defense be fixed? My gosh, we need 15 to 20 new players at least.
  11. This is a good indication of a lack of accountability in the upper management of the University. There are also a lot of outsized salaries in College Football. Look at UT, which pays Sarkisian $5.2M/yr. But the entire UT athletic dept. only generated $239M last year. Do you really think a private company would pay such outsized salaries? They would go bankrupt. UT would not be a big company by the way at least not from a revenue standpoint. $millions/yr. is a big big salary folks and 85 football players and a dozen assistant coaches isn't that much to manage. Hell, a BestBuy multistore regional manager likely has more responsibility and generates more revenue than any head coach. So, put me in the "no excuses" camp. I think heads should roll much sooner than has been happening at NT.
  12. Seems like I remember hearing that Dickey era teams practiced full speed hitting too and this caused the expected injuries. But it was the price to be paid, I guess. I heard WKU's football HC (Helton) say last week that Steve Spurrier would have rather lost and put up 500 yards of offense than win a low scoring game. This might be the same mentality coming from the Mike Leach tree of coaching. But don't forget too, UNT isn't winning many football games scoring only 29 points either.
  13. A nice marketing gimmick for WKU Football. But your interest should end there. Having lived in Bowling Green for decades, trust me when I say; there is nothing to see here. Move along.
