  1. Lessons for meangreenbob: 1) If anything remotely positive happens for North Texas, do not gloat. If you do, you will be called on the carpet, tarred and feathered and publicly humiliated. 2) Never, and I mean EVER, project future positivity with the current regime. Let it happen, then see Lesson 1. But, GMG.
  2. If appeal is unsuccessful, Stradford will have 3 years left of eligibility. Last season was his RS, this year will be his FR year, per Bartolotta via chat.
  3. Steven Bartolotta just confirmed via chat that he is on the field, and eligible.
  4. Mean Rob = The power down sound effect from Star Wars (thanks for bringing me back to earth, Rob!) But, GMG.
  5. * Interesting to hear the "how they got here" stories...coaching connections, behind the scenes, etc. * The meangreensports.com blog is a big upgrade in communication with the faithful. Big props to Steven Bartolotta. * Anyone notice the numerous discussions, phone calls that Vito has had with Coach Dodge? * More practices open to the public? * This has to be a difficult time for the cynics (and I mean that with much respect...recent good news seems to be outweighing the negative). I am in the positive camp and working hard to stay contained and controlled about my expectations for this season. The Athletic Department overall appears to be making big gains. Even Coach Dodge detractors might admit the guy seems to be adapting. We are moving forward in many different areas. GMG
  6. Question: It just doen't seem like the "steepness" of the stands is no different than Fouts. I understand that no track equals closer to field, but I had heard it described (by Dodge, I thought) as the "fans would be right on top of the field." The pictures of the stands look like a very gradual pitch, not much different than Fouts. Anyone know? But GMG.
  7. "and is further driving home his point" yes....thank the good Lord that "Kevin" is here to make sure we understand his point. I didn't get his point the first 3697 times he attempted to make it. And what would the board be without the fine work of TTG: "Not trying to speak for Lonnie, but... To be fair, I only hold Bob Stoops partially responsible for one of our humiliating, dispiriting losses in the past two years." Admittedly, I don't understand the humor of the youth these days, but the guy is batting way below the Mendoza line in the post/laugh ratio for me. 0.0979 mild guffaw. 0.0170 laugh. But GMG.
  8. I wonder if Charr knows the great Brandon Kennedy....a Terrell pipeline?
  9. This is not a knock on the staff, as they edited in the interest of time, but the context of my question changed a bit from what I emailed (below): Rick, we all know that the football team has struggled under Coach Dodge. I believe that it takes at least two full years to turn (sic) convert an offense from run to pass (or vice versa). Please give your take on what makes you confident that Year 3 will be the one that moves us forward. In other words, for we who are optimists, what talking points should we be selling our work mates, neighbors, friends and fellow students?
  10. I was listening to a ESPN radio conversation regarding the SEC today. Can't recall the team (and am not inclined to do the research) but the commentator was asked about a team with a first year coach that was implementing the spread. His reply was something along the lines of: "The guy is transitioning a run-oriented team to his spread offense. Don't expect anything for at least 2 years." But GMG.
  11. I applaud the work of these NT students. Sadly, this will not help us in the Director Cup standings again this year. But, GMG
  12. Hope someone runs that one nationally, but in the meantime...I know that photographer...good guy, sits in my section at every single game. GMG
  13. It is a shame that the Firefighter RV had to take 10 minutes plus 8 words to put out another fire started by the DRC and flamed by this board....fires that had been handled and put out months ago. Clearly FFRV spends his days conspiring how to destroy this University. I am comforted that all on this board want the same thing (to make our University great, allegedly) but just have different ideas on how to accomplish it. So, GMG
  14. His daughter is an eye doctor, and is associated with one of my customers. Without getting too political, the older I get, the less black and white I get. These issues are not often summed up well by either extreme. Getting greener, instead. GMG
  15. First, that is Mr F....sorry, Jim. Second, Euless: That game will be in New Orleans! GMG
  16. Thanks for the advice, Mr M. Will be just 6 months a year (Fall and Winter)...the rest of the year in Idaho. And I still have 20 years or so to make a decision...not an owner yet. And by the way, have a good Memorial Day, sir.
  17. It takes a backward state like Louisiana (no offense, LA boys...I plan to retire in NOLa) to realize that playing in state teams keeps all the money in state. Imagine that. GMG
  18. Let me preface that I am a horrible ballplayer and a worse organizer, but would anyone be interested in heading up a fundraiser for the stadium where we put together a "Great Game" among us gmg posters? Thoughts: Similar to the GMG.com Bowl, we put together teams, have a couple of practices (players from both teams attend the practices) and schedule the game sometime around the start of fall practices. Players pay $100 to play (including t-shirt), all funds go to the stadium. We ask a vendor to donate the shirts. Pitching is always the dicey part of this...coach pitch/five pitches? Or do you go scorched earth and play real baseball with live pitching? I prefer the latter. It would be great to play on campus but I am not sure NT has a legit baseball field. Maybe we play where the club team plays? NO SOFTBALL...this is baseball. Being a DEFCON 20% guy, I will be highly aware of the "message" pitch coming my way. But I WILL play with my name on my jersey. Scott Campbell GMG
  19. Agree. I thought this post had no relevance to this board and should be moved. Then, I realized it would spur reminders to anyone that felt our current coaching story had not been told enough. Carry on. GMG Scott Campbell
  20. Asked for a reaction to Russo's request for transfer, Dodge said, "I don't see the need to answer that question. He is dead to me. As for my own future, since you didn't ask, we will be fine. It really is all about me, you see, er I mean, I am focused on the school that gave me this great opportunity." Sounds like the proper way to handle that question. Instead, the guy offered coach-speak about a kid with whom he has had a long coach/player relationship, and then went back to recruiting (three more offers posted today) and continuing progress in turning this around. I prefer the latter. Stay focused on the kids that want to be here. Self-evaluate and work to make it the best work environment you can. Do something, make progress, improve, then talk about it if you must, but limit focus on yourself while you are working hard to turn it around. (and yes, I understand this is a simplistic view of the situation) GMG Scott Campbell
  21. Nice to see this getting some play. I stopped in Denton recently, and ran around the facilities that have been built. The tennis facility is first class and I can only imagine that it is a nice place to watch a tournament. The girls look great and have represented the school well this season. I also caught a couple of innings of one of the softball games, and am sold. I have never had so much fun at a non-football NT sporting event. It is clear the girls (from both teams) enjoy their sport. Lots of hustle, but it really looks like they are having a great time. The field is awesome and fun to spectate from. I like the tailgaters in right field (mostly students so they don't cost us by not paying for a ticket). NT hosts the softball tournament in a few weeks. I recommend you go out and see our girls. Lots of fun. GMG
  22. If you go to the meangreensports.com front page, on the left side is a listing of NT sports events and results. When you click on the results today, you see nothing but W's (and a Recap for the TT Track and Field meet and a WGLF 13th place at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic). Four softball wins and four tennis wins. Oh, and while I am on the MG Athletics page, big props to the Athletic Department for the schedule posters of the Women's Tennis and Golf teams. GMG
