  1. no new stadium. no new uniforms. no screaming eagle. no NT fight song. we do have Boomer. i expect next year's release will include the stadium and new unis, but since they haven't added the fight song for all these years i doubt they will next year.
  2. I joined this board around the time Dodge was announced the head coach. I like reading the posts. I may not be an active member, I do apologize, but I do regularly read. I have to speak up when I hear comments like "we were the only one offering." It reminds me of when LT was recruited. He was offered by 2 programs - TCU & UNT. Just because someone only has 1 or 2 offers does not seal that recruit's fate as being unworthy of a scholarship or he will never amount to anything at North Texas. Maybe I reading something into the comment that is not there, but I really get frustrated with posts of this nature. In no way am I suggesting this recruit is LT or will turn into the special player he became as I realize he is a once in a lifetime recruit. With recruiting being part science (speed, strength, bench press, etc...) and part art (football speed, having a knack for the game, etc...), lets give the kid at least a year before accusing the staff of not knowing what they are doing (we may already have enough evidence to make this accusation without any further help from this young man ) or the player for being a lower level college division talent.
  3. Here is another example of new facilities at other schools... I know Texas is different, but this "small" school is building a new basketball (multi-purpose venue). Guess how much it cost? $60 million How can they raise the money and we can't? I realize they are getting some funding by the state legislature. Below is a quote taken directly from NKU's website. "We are in the process of building a $37 million, 144,000-square-foot student union building, as well as The Bank of Kentucky Center, a $60 million, 9,400-seat arena for basketball games and other events. It is the best time to be a part of NKU." Link to school & arena www.nku.edu/about/index.php and www.bankofkentuckycenter.com/about_facts.asp Sorry for being ignorant of the differences between how each state provides funding for their respective state funded schools. I just want a new stadium and don't care what it takes to get it this point! We need to replace Fouts!
  4. Will the Pourhouse be showing the UNT/LSU game? I know it will compete with the Ohio St/USC game. I see where the UNT/LSU game is available as part of the ESPN Gameday package this weekend.
  5. It feels great for an alum (I hope I got that right as someone posted proper usage on one of the other boards) to be actively involved with the school. I live in Keller but I am going to make it to the Pourhouse as often as I can. I know I am preaching to the choir, but we need show our support for this establishment. Maybe other local business owners will realize how many Mean Green there are in the area and make an effort to court us. It gets frustrating working in Ft. Worth and many of the local businesses, even national retailers and restaurants court TCU. I asked the manger at PappaBugers why no NT stuff on the walls and he said there was and pointed to one small pennant. I asked him why TCU, Tech, Baylor, UT, aTm (maybe SMU, but not postive) had painted images painted around the ceiling, but no NT. He said no support. I asked him the size of the school... clueless, size of alumni... once again clueless. He said if he got more request he could do something about it. I am starting to rant. Go Mean Green Pourhouse, thanks for supporting the university!
  6. I currently park in the green lot. I plan on having a frosty brew at my car before entering the stadium. I used to park in the lots by The Super Pit and enjoyed many frosty beverages along with others. I think (on gameday) you can enjoy a drink pretty much anywhere on campus. If you want an official policy I believe it is posted on the NT athletic site. Welcome to Mean Green Country!
  7. Rivals' source was InsideTulsaSports.com. Per the article, Shorter stated it was a better overall fit, both academically and athletically. I am glad to have him sign with us. During Dodge's press conference he commented they tried to recruit him last year as part of Dodge's first class then realized he was only a junior. Dodge said he liked him when SLC played against him.
  8. I just noticed this change in verbal commitment from UNT to Tulsa. I wonder what made him change is mind? Maybe it was all the DBs showing verbal commitments to us. I think he was originally committed to SMU but switched after day 803 without a head coach.
  9. That was funny. I appreciate the post. I happened to watch it from my room in Cabo.
  10. All things come to an end. Here comes the Mean Green! I can't wait till next season.
  11. You can't lose what what you never really had. If SMU gets some kids that have a verbal with us who cares. We pay our coaching staff to recruit. I am sure Dodge knows the kids that might be swayed by JJ and will continue to remind them of why they selected UNT. I bet all college coaches would tell you recruiting isn't finished till the ink is on the paper. In the grand scheme of things I hope to have a ton of these threads in the future involving bigger programs than SMU. Hell, if we can't handle a little competition with SMU then we best fold up shop right now.
  12. I saw them too. Some really big guys. I did not see any letterman jackets. Don't recruits usually have some sort of guide or host? I did however stop a gillion kickers! My bad, those were just students.
  13. Okay, I was wrong it only took him 6 years to build a winner. My point was that it will take him some time to build the SMU program. I have high expectations for our program and could give a rats ass as to what SMU does.
  14. It took JJ nine years to build the UH program. SMU has done nothing with all the facilities and money that previously existing within their program. I am not say they can't or won't (is this a double negative? triple negative? Look at my UNT education breaking down before my very eyes) be successful, however SMU should not be our baseline or benchmark. As a few other have stated on this board, think small time you will end up small time.
  15. My quick math says SMU will pay JJ between $330K - $500K per win over the next couple years. If they can ever reach 8 wins per season they will end up getting a bargain at $250K. Who doesn't want to spend that type of money for wins over the likes of Tulsa, Tulane and Memphis? Oh wait, I forgot this money will get them better recruits, fan support in DFW, coaching and an invitation to a bigger conference. That sure is a crafty bunch over there on the hilltop. The cliche that some people have more money than sense comes to mind...
  16. Hell, with all the excitement around here I had already forgot about this. Was there ever a promise made? Would it be good idea to run that story now? Sometimes it is just best to move forward.
  17. Maybe Vito is getting a raw deal. I do not know. The simple fact is we need to have coverage in the FWST, DMN and DRC. His job as a reporter is to figure out how to develop that relationship.
  18. I don't quite agree. We can debate conferences, schools, facilities, location, etc... Here is what we do know... The Belt is improving. NT is a growing public university. NT has made and will continue to make substantial strides with new facilities. (Yes, I know we still need a stadium.) Denton & alumni will support NT when the wins come. PB was a big hire when SMU landed him. They have great facilities and all the money any program could want, but neither have resulted in winning or have hurt NT moving our program in the right direction. Perhaps JJ will become SMUs next head coach, but I just don't see how that is bad for us. So what if they have a similar offensive scheme. We pay Dodge and his staff is to recruit players to UNT. When did competition become a bad thing?
  19. Did he mention they should know how to handle inbounding the ball against the full court press? We seem to have so many problems with the inbound pass...
  20. I don't get it... The trap gives us so many problems and yet we seem so unprepared every time we see it. We can't even inbound the ball! It is not like this Troy team is a trapping, defensive juggernaut.
  21. The announcers of the Sugar Bowl just mentioned what an amazing job Hawaii does in recruiting considering their budget is $50K per year. They mentioned the budget for Ohio St., Georgia, USC, OU, and Florida is well over $500K per year. Does anyone know our recruiting budget? That really puts things in perspective in terms of trying to compete with "bigger" programs. I know money does not solve all program problems (see SMU) but it sure does help.
  22. THUD! The Cowboys better win because this lose to DU has me feeling crappy even after a drink!
  23. That was just uninspired basketball. Our poor play gave them confidence and momentum. How do we not get more boards in this game??? What a waste.
