  1. Yeah, putting aside the arguments of what fracking chemicals can or cannot do to the environment and health of nearby residents, there is no doubt on the following side effects of fracking: - It's loud, 24 hours a day. - It's an eyesore. - It uses tens of thousands of gallons of water for each drilling site. - It required hundreds of trucks rumbling through our neighborhood well over the speed limit and tearing up our roads. - It puts SOMETHING into the air (our cars were coated by some kind of greasy film every morning for 3 months) Put this less than 200 feet from your back door, and it will certainly change your mind. It changed mine.
  2. The irony in this is how the county GOP so quickly and enthusiastically sided with the gas industry, dedicating tens of thousands of dollars to support corporations against citizens, and that the state commissioners embrace big government dictating what local government and citizens are allowed to do. The county GOP was completely tone deaf on this one!
  3. It shows that even in deeply red Denton (yes, look at the voting history in other elections), the issue of urban drilling and fracking is not a left wing tenet.
  4. With 21 of 39 precincts reporting, Denton Fracking Ban has a solid 60% - 40% lead.
  5. Q1: is that $30M (half of the originally projected $60M) or $39M (half of $78M)? The fee revenue can be used however the AD wnts, but the committment was to pay half the stadium with the athletic fee. Q2: "After the stadium is paid for, the fees will continue to pay for other athletic programs." This statement is located in article above. Does the fee end after the stadium is paid? or will it continue to pay for "other athletic programs"? The fee will continue as long as UNT has bonds to pay. Q3: from my research it appears that Texas and Texas A&M students do not pay a dedicated athletics fee, so it doesn't appear that we have the lowest fee in the state. Is ours the lowest of the other schools? (Texas Tech, Houston, UTSA, UTEP, Texas State) I don't think this is correct, and athletic fees are paid by almost every university. UNT was the oddball in not having an athletic fee. Q4: Also, we're currently at $10 (stated as $7 because a student services fee was cut by $3), can we really only raise it to $11? or is the raise to a maximum possible? (It appears that the maximum allowed is $15, is that correct?) The maximum fee permitted under the legislation that approve the fee is $20. It can be increased by 10% per year by the BOR, or the students can vote to increase it to any amount up to $20.
  6. Denton City Council just let the convention center deal die. No council member made a motion to authorize expenditures needed to keep the deal going.
  7. Our home OOC schedule is pathetic.
  8. Loved this comment: Can’t tell you how impressed I am with Texas A&M, even though latest victim SMU is utterly horrible. My Austin Ridge Bible Church pastor Brad Thomas joked Sunday that the Aggies “start playing men’s teams next week.”
  9. Long beer lines is a good thing. Shows that the demand is there. What we need to fix it is faster workers. Always seems I get the 90-year old retiree trying to figure out the register.
  10. Running out of water early in the third. C'mon, we were hoping for a sell out and run out of water on a hot day? And what the hell is up with charging $1 for a cup of ice? Isn't it enough that I'm paying $4 for a bottled water?
  11. We weren't going to sell out this game. I expect a crowd like the stadium opener. We obviously have a long way to go, but I'm happy about the progress over the last few years. It seems that until we win a National Championship some people will never be happy.
  12. The Longhorn Network is bad. Really bad. Like a university media department put it together and let the students manage it. Even with ESPN money, it sucks. And Vince Young is terrible, just terrible.
  13. You guys realize how much this going to cost the Power 5? Up to $5k per player per year in stipends, plus guaranteed 4 year scholarships, plus insurance. This could really hurt some schools.
  14. I tweeted Eric and asked where the sales are in terms on the same date last year and he replied "Well ahead... probably a couple hundred ahead." So figure that's about a 2-3% increase for season ticket sales. It's at least the right direction.
  15. In your friendly GoMeanGreen.com store.
  16. Fast forward 20 years: The SEC/Big Ten/PAC 12 decide the ACC and Big 12 can no longer compete and form their own 42 team league of professional football players to advertise their universities.
