  1. Hello UNT fans - I heard the bad news about your head coach and just wanted to stop by and say that many Pony fans, myself included, are praying for Dan McCarney's quick and full recovery. Good luck to him and to all of you in the future.
  2. All indications were that Padron was going to play in the 2nd half of the UH game even if Bo Levi Mitchell were not injured. Those close to the program said that Jones saw that Mitchell would not be able to handle the pressure's of being the program's top QB after the Washington State game. At that time, the decision to remove Padron's redshirt and prepare him were made, and they were planning on bringing him on in limited time vs. UH to see how he did. BLM's injury in the second quarter of that UH game sped the process up a bit, obviously. Rick - multiply your number (10) by 2 and you have the number of donors in the "Circle of Champions" (donors giving $100,000 per year each to finance Jones' salary). Rumored members of this Circle of Champions are Gerald J. Ford, Ray Hunt, the guy in charge of Brookshire's Supermarkets, and Eric Dickerson, to name a few. No member names have been released, however, so it's possible that none of these guys are among the 20. To all - I've seen the sketches of your new stadium and believe it will work wonders for your program. It's a beautiful facility that screams "top-notch" all the way (whereas Fouts screams "half-a**" - no offense). The new facility should help recruiting, and with better recruiting will come better results. It's also my personal belief that Todd Dodge is a great guy, but he's just not the right fit for the UNT program (think he would have been a better choice as an offensive coordinator, rather than as a head coach). Put the right coach in the new facility, and UNT could become scary good very fast.
  3. Kaepernick was one of the three (2nd leading rusher, in fact) and played in the game. The Nevada fans were telling us that it wasn't the backs - it was the O-Line. They pointed to Mike Ball having something like 5 touchdowns in only 18 carries in a game where Taua and Lippencott were out earlier in the season. If they were right, and it was the O-Line, then SMU's defensive effort needs to be commended. Something tells me that the O-Line contributed, at least a bit, to the success that Taua and Lippencott had earlier this season. Bottom line - SMU is back (and it feels great). We were a lot further away from success than you guys are right now, and we made it. UNT can get to this level as well - you just have to get the right guy in at the head coaching position, and that takes a long time sometimes. Don't fret, UNT will be back in the bowls soon. And speaking of being in the bowls, if the Mean Green ever get invited to the Hawai'i Bowl, by all means, go. It was a tremendous experience for the fans, and I am told that the players really enjoyed themselves, as well. 45-10. I still can't believe it happened. Go Ponies, and Go Mean Green as well. You guys deserve to have a competitive program as well.
  4. Coach Gansz passed today. June Jones wrote on his twitter page: "Heaven became even a better place today.....God bless Frank Gansz" Thanks to all of you for your prayers. Coach Gansz touched the lives of everyone he met here on Earth, and I'm sure he will do the same in heaven.
  5. Thanks for your prayers. We may be rivals on the field, but situations like this make that seem so irrelevant.
  6. Hello Mean Green Fans - I come to you today to ask you to pray for our special teams coach, Frank Gansz. Coach Gansz is in the hospital with life-threatening complications from knee replacement surgery. He's a really good guy, and losing him would be a tremendous loss for football. Here's a story about him from the Honolulu paper: http://archives.starbulletin.com/2004/04/2...ts/simpson.html Thanks.
  7. All of us at SMU are praying for his family and all others who have lost a part of their life.
  8. Hello all. Missouri and SMU mutually dropped the series a few weeks back, when they decided to continue playing KU in Kansas City. Mizzou's athletic director wanted to continue having the Tigers play 6 home games per year at Faurot Field. In 2010, Mizzou's game vs. KU in Kansas City will be considered a Mizzou home game by the Big XII conference; therefore, Mizzou only had 5 games scheduled for Columbia. Therefore, Mizzou wanted to cancel its trip to Dallas that year, but still wanted the Mustangs to make the trip to Columbia in 2009. SMU refused and the series was dropped. There were rumors that the possible replacement was going to be North Texas; however, I guess the deal never got done. I'm not too excited about a trip to Pullman, Washington next year, but I am excited that we got a deal worked out with a beatable (hopefully) BCS team. By the way, I haven't been on this board since you guys got your new stadium passed; from the looks of the designs, it's going to be a nice place. Congrats!
  9. Interesting note about that...Gerald R. Ford (the President) spoke at the 1975 commencement and said "Bill Clements, our Deputy Secretary of Defense as well as the former chairman of SMU's board of governors, informed me that I had been named the first and only honorary member of your sensational Mustang Band. All I can say is, I have always been proud to be a Ford. In the future, I will be even more proud to be a Ford Mustang." http://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/ws/index.php?pid=5250
  10. One could say the same of the way UNT fans anticipated the SMU game last year.
  11. Hello all. I heard about Dickey's heart attack and I wanted to drop by and let you know that I am wishing and praying for his speedy recovery. May he return to full health soon and lead UNT to a Sun Belt crown! CalallenStang
  12. Hey everyone. Just wanted to stop by and say congratulations on the win against us last night. You guys wanted it a whole lot more than our team did and it showed on the field. I don't know where our football team is going to go from here. We didn't show up to play, period. That can only be blamed on the coaching staff. Anyway, good luck from here on out. I'll be checking in from time to time to follow your season.
  13. I wish I could be there! Unfortunately, I have a prior commitment that day. Aside from the game next week, I'm hoping you guys have a good season!
  14. Hey guys. Looking forward to the game next week against you guys. I saw a little bit of the UT-UNT game and you guys looked good at times, especially at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. Y'all can listen to our game at http://www.theticket.com
  15. I've tried to say it before, but I get nowhere. I've settled for saying UNT or NT everytime I post as a few others do but for some reason some are still set in saying NTSU.
  16. Haha, yes, we shall see what happens after that 30 day period. I will say this...your fanbase is fired up! That will make Denton a tough place to play!
  17. A high school site I am a mod on got hacked about a month ago. I understand what y'all are going through and while I am not a Mean Green fan, I do enjoy reading this board and occasionally responding. If there is anything I can do to help get this site back on track, please let me know.
  18. As opposed to the situation for you guys when someone looks forward to playing y'all? Especially your OOC games. There were plenty of teams who were looking forward to playing us last year during our 3 game end-of-season win streak. Y'all didn't have 3 wins all year.
  19. Maybe you didn't understand my meaning. My point was that SMU has built itself up by itself. What they do with the money has nothing to do with it. Or maybe I'm misunderstanding something you have said. Either way, I think there is a miscommunication going on.
  20. No. Even though our team didn't exactly light up the win column when he was here, you can't pin that on one guy.
  21. Blah. It was the "we're not going to have any success in football for 20 years after we get busted" fund. I think we've suffered the consequences enough as is, without having to have the crime thrown in our faces every day.
  22. Nice to see the NT fans rely on stereotypes rather than actual information and/or common sense. Class warfare? You have got to be kidding. There are plenty of people who go to NT who are rather fortunate in their financial situation, just as there are plenty of people who go to SMU who are on full financial aid. There are plenty of rich graduates of both schools. UNT is a public institution, so it is by nature more affordable than SMU. UNT does receive funding from the state (not as much as UT or A&M, but still, it's funding), whereas SMU does not. SilverEagle, a school has to build it's endowment by itself. SMU did that. SMU has gotten where it is by itself. Every school gets where it is by itself. It's all about making use of the resources available to you.
