  1. Mean Green Nation, I hope you are having a great summer! We are busy making plans for the fall semester and for our various fall sports seasons. Last year was another tremendous year for the Mean Green. Momentum is at an all-time high, and we are positioned to remain strong as we head into 2020-21. I am so proud of our coaches, support staff, and student-athletes who continue to raise the bar of excellence as we deliver on our mission of Building Champions and Preparing Leaders. Last year we saw a number of outstanding successes within the fields and courts of competition, in the classroom, and in the community: Recorded an overall winning record for the 3rd straight year Claimed Conference USA Championships in men’s basketball and women’s soccer Recorded highest ever GPA We are also excited about the continued progress in building our key athletic facilities that allow us to further develop our student-athletes physically, academically, and socially. We proudly unveiled our new Lovelace & McNatt Families Practice Facility and have broken ground on our new on-campus golf practice facility. We recently completed working with architects to determine programming needs and basic design for an expanded Athletic Center. As outlined in the Light the Tower Facility Master Plan, we have a critical need to expand this facility in order to better serve our student-athletes in the areas of sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and academic support. While the timing of the athletic center renovation and expansion is fluid due to concerns with the current economic climate, it remains an important part of our plans to continue to build on our momentum. Our Mean Green momentum is real and we want to thank you for the important part you play in our trajectory as an institution. Your financial support and attendance at games are vital to our continued success. You only have a few days to renew your season football tickets. It is very possible that we will not have single game or game day sales for games due to attendance restrictions. Renew your football season tickets by clicking HERE! Finally, if you have not had an opportunity to join the Mean Green Scholarship Fund, please visit MeanGreenScholarshipFund.com today. For as little as $25, you can become a member and support the scholarship and academic endeavors of our 400 student-athletes. On behalf of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff, thank you for helping us Build Champions and Prepare Leaders. North Texas, We Love! Wren Baker Vice President and Director of Athletics
  2. I think why he was invited in was he won 4 straight conference championships with pretty sub par facilities.
  3. Southern Miss plays home football games at The Rock, but league foes from a time zone away rarely bring many visiting fans. The first thing I’d do as commissioner of Conference USA? I’d blow it up. It doesn’t work. It didn’t work long before the pandemic. It certainly won’t work now. Most of all, the economics don’t work. There’s too much travel, not nearly enough revenue. In many ways, the league was designed – and has been altered over the years – with TV markets in mind. That’s why FIU (Florida Internatonal University) and FAU (Florida Atlantic Univeristy) were accepted as members in 2013, to regain the Florida TV market lost when first South Florida and UCF (University of Central Florida) exited. That’s why UTSA (University of Texas at San Antonio) was accepted in 2013. San Antonio is a big city with lots of TVs. read more: https://www.northsidesun.com/news-breaking-news-sports-columns/its-past-time-radical-change-conference-usa#sthash.PUnfUtCn.dpbs
  4. The 2020 North Texas Coaches Caravan had a different look this year as a live Facebook event due to current social distancing measures. Executive Senior Associate Athletic Director Hank Dickenson met through a Zoom meeting with the head coaches and student-athletes from Mean Green football, soccer and volleyball to discuss the upcoming season and how they continued to work throughout the spring quarantine. Football Head coach Seth Littrell and junior linebacker KD Davis began the virtual event to talk about the cancellation of spring football. On March 12 the NCAA canceled all basketball tournaments and later all sporting events for the remainder of the spring semester. While all football programs are on a level playing field with limited ability to practice or workout, Littrell said he believes his team drew closer and developed during the time away from the game. “We’re getting a team that’s growing closer together and that’s communicating better,” Littrell said. “We talk to guys on the leadership council on a weekly basis where they’re going a great job. We’re also holding position meetings where I’m communicating with guys every day that I normally wouldn’t be, and doing that will help leadership across the team grow overall.” Last season Davis led the North Texas defense with 88 tackles, including seven tackles-for-loss and 3.5 sacks. He is one of the up and coming leaders in the program and is a part of the team leadership council. Usually, Davis works with strength and conditioning coaches throughout the offseason. During the quarantine, Davis has to find time throughout his day to get in his own workout and make sure his other teammates are doing the same. “With everything going on it can be hard to wake up and go workout on your own,” Davis said. “With my mindset, I know I wanted to come out bigger, faster and stronger so I’ve trained every day getting in as much work as possible. I wouldn’t let my teammates and coaches down because it was time to get to work.” read more: https://www.ntdaily.com/north-texas-head-coaches-reflect-on-upcoming-seasons-training-during-quarantine/
  5. North Texas was 57th in my preseason college football rankings last year. Even without several key players, the Mean Green were well equipped to flirt with a third straight nine-win season and send Seth Littrell's already high Power Five stock to the moon. One year later, North Texas is 107th in my preseason rankings. After reportedly rejecting Kansas State's advances, Littrell returned to Denton and replicated his predecessor Dan McCarney in plunging from nine to four wins in just one season. Now, after a disastrous season, the 41-year-old fifth-year head coach is entering his second challenging rebuild with the program. And he's doing so without an offensive coordinator—Bodie Reeder was fired and not replaced, leaving Littrell to call plays in 2020, not co-coordinator Tommy Mainford—and a new defensive coordinator in former Kansas colleague Clint Bowen, who was North Texas defensive coordinator in 2011. read more: https://herosports.com/college-football/north-texas-2020-schedule-predictions-ahah
  6. I don’t think we will play football this year and it makes me sad.
  7. That was the first bowl Memphis had been to in 4ever. They went one direction and we in another sadly.
  8. He was not offered because of Ernie. He was offered because Seth loves the kid and he’s a winner. He had 8 published offers plus 3 more...he is the only QB ever offered by a Big 10 school that I am aware of. Not to mention he was the 1st team QB for the state of Oklahoma for 2 years. He also won the state championship at Owasso. Also need to be said that Kuehne while not as fast as Bean has very good wheels. Please don’t underestimate this kid he is a winner!
  9. Black received his first Division I offer in basketball from North Texas, but college football programs are also taking notice. Kansas presented him with his first football offer one month after the conclusion of the 2019 season. UNT, Arkansas, Houston, Iowa State, Illinois State, Georgia Tech, Cincinnati and Hawaii have also extended offers to Black. "I never really expected it, but it's a testament to all of the hard work that I've put it in,” Black said. “It's nice to see everything start to pay off." read more: https://starlocalmedia.com/coppellgazette/sports/coppells-black-son-of-baylor-hoops-hall-of-famer-creating-his-own-legacy/article_faf65b66-acc7-11ea-a5aa-0f47643a9720.html
  10. 12. North Texas Mean Green 2019-20: 20-11 (14-4), Conference USA regular season champion Grant McCasland hasn’t wasted any time getting things up and running in Denton. The Mean Green won 20 games for the third straight year, and the 34th-most efficient offense, per KenPom, propelled them to a C-USA title. The biggest revelation was the emergence of Javion Hamlet, who turned out to be one of the best JuCo transfers in the country last season. The guard led the Mean Green in scoring at 14.6 points per game and assists at 4.7. His play earned him C-USA Player of the Year honors, and it’s reasonable to think that he enters next season as one of the frontrunners to take home the award next year. Hamlet will need to be a star again to help pick up some of the slack from the departures of Umoja Gibson (transfer to Oklahoma) and Deng Geu. However, he won’t be alone. The Mean Green bring back four other seniors, including starters James Reese and Zachary Simmons. Thomas Bell also returns after leading the team in rebounds and hitting just under 37 percent from deep coming off the bench. It all runs through Hamlet, though. When he goes, the Mean Green go. Lucky for McCasland, he has one of the best point guards in the country at his disposal. North Texas should be in the top tier of C-USA again. 11. Bussey was a senior entering the 2019 season, but played just two games for the Mean Green due to a knee injury. Playing in less than four games allowed him to redshirt. At Hawaii, he will be a graduate transfer with one season of immediate eligibility. Hawaii enters the 2020 season with a new head coach in Todd Graham. As it stands, the Rainbow Warriors are scheduled to open their 2020 season at Arizona on Aug. 29. 12. They were saying on the news that they are legally allowed to do it. I don't like it but if they want to stop people from doing it they have to change the damn laws.
  13. It's a good question and my guess is we won't know for sure until when they report and perhaps even after that. Not having Spring leaves a lot of these guys in limbo. For instance, at QB there has to be one that leaves after spring training because the writing is on the wall. We didn't have that opportunity with Covid. It could happen anyway but UNT is not going to announce it until they have to.
