  1. Gametime: Saturday, September 2nd at 3 pm Central/1 pm Pacific TV: ESPNU Denton, Texas (just outside Dallas) and DATCU Stadium (capacity 30,850) Expected Weather: 101 degrees and @30% humidity 2022 Record: UNT finished 7-7, losing to Boise State in a bowl game The Weather: The Bears find themselves in a rare road opener versus a Group of 5 program. This is the result of a late scheduling challenge in 2019 that allowed UNT to demand a return trip in order to fill Cal’s schedule gap. The heat and humidity will be a factor, primarily because DATCU stadium is situated such that the home team is under shade in the afternoon while the visitors will be standing in the sun. The fact that this game has an afternoon kickoff is nearly criminal. As much for the fans as for the players. New UNT head coach Eric Morris has made a point of letting the press know that he believes the weather will be to the Mean Green’s advantage and sources tell us that even after ESPN and Cal agreed to push the kickoff into the evening, Morris vetoed the idea. The UNT Offense: This is a brand new staff and scheme as former UNT head coach Seth Litrell (who was arguably the most successful HC in the history of the program) was let go after failing to win a conference title. Litrell and his former OC Mike Bloesch (currently Cal’s run game coordinator and offensive line coach) set all kinds of records in Denton with an offense that was well-balanced between the run and the pass. That may change under new HC Eric Morris, fresh off his debut season as the OC at Washington State where the Cougars offense finished 10th in the Pac-12 in yards per play in conference play (just behind Cal) and 7th in scoring in Pac-12 play. Morris, the former HC at FCS Incarnate Word, is known for his pass-centric offenses. The Cougars passed the ball nearly 60% of the time in 2022, though their leading rusher finished with a respectable 5.34 yards per carry average in conference play. It remains to be seen whether Morris will adapt his offense approach based on the Mean Green personnel. read more: https://bearinsider.com/s/3719/previewing-north-texas

  3. I seriously doubt they will kick anyone out. They are already preparing for law suits. I sense public sentiment on all this is starting to worry them. And what about tge student athletes having to travel from coast to coast to play? That’s BS!
  4. Welcome! Glad you are here. Your son is a beast. Proud you all are with us.
  5. I was hearing like 20 million a school plus more if subscription goals or met. But that was before the meltdown.
  6. The Mustangs are reportedly willing to absorb at least a half decade of zero dollars in media revenue for a chance to join the ACC. And it’s kind of hard to blame them. College football realignment absolutely sucks, and the suckiest part of all is that there’s no end to it on the horizon. The process is hoovering the soul out of the sport, warping a regional product rich with history and rivalry into a quasi-national game increasingly devoid of both. The further college football goes in that direction, the less it becomes anything but a glorified farm system for a pro league that everyone could just turn on 24 hours later each weekend to see dramatically better football. The collateral damage will be athletes in other sports, who will be forced into extra travel without much of a shot at earning any name, image, and likeness (NIL) money. Nevertheless, schools have decided that the only thing worse than being party to all of this is being left without an invitation. And absolutely nobody is more desperate to score one than SMU. We know this thanks to a report from The Action Network’s Brett McMurphy, who has a source claiming that the Mustangs are so eager to join the ACC that they are willing to forego any media rights revenue for the first five to seven years. For reference, Oregon and Washington are catching hell for joining the Big Ten for half a share of the maximum revenue over the life of its current deal, which will start them at $30 million annually. Their former conference, the all-but-extinct Pac-12, crumbled because its member schools were staring down a deal that may only guarantee them around $23 million. Yet here are the Mustangs, sending very loud signals that they’d be super down to get zero dollars and zero cents for a not-inconsiderable amount of time in exchange for the privilege of slapping a bigger brand on their athletic department letterhead and their athletes spending half of each season playing on the East Coast. Is this thirsty? Oh, buddy, is it. Is it smart? Yeah, probably. read more: https://www.dmagazine.com/sports/2023/08/smu-mustangs-acc/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=dmagazine&fbclid=IwAR1DSdKNIxA0M017xetHdzIBVikf68ZvHm0l4BR9DJCJJNbo2QQmlavmklE_aem_AdGgvq4NFKpjU1N1rnzTRwvXJCoYTc9EotOeDxHnEjHuWpLQHVFEpoZHqhZpDSKQZik&mibextid=Zxz2cZ
  7. The Wyoming Cowboys and the North Texas Mean Green have added two games to their future football series, according to Wyoming’s 2023 football media guide. Back in 2017, the two schools announced a home-and-home series that was set to begin during the 2023 season. After an amendment to the contract was made, the series was then slated to begin on Sept. 5, 2026 at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, Wyo., with the second game slated for Sept. 18, 2027 at Apogee Stadium in Denton, Texas. Per Wyoming’s media guide, the games in 2026 and 2027 remain as scheduled, but the series will now kickoff at Apogee Stadium on Sept. 21, 2024. Additionally, the Mean Green will visit War Memorial Stadium for the final contest of the four-game series on Sept. 21, 2030. 8. I think it is very telling that at about the same time we hired Seth, Tulane hired Willie Fritz and not far after UTSA hired Jeff Traylor. If that #1 and #2 ranking is not a indictment of Seth’s results at UNT I don’t know what is. in terms of Eric, no one outside of us and maybe a few people in Lubbock and San Antonio know who the heck he is. I think that could change quickly.
  9. I would buy some as well even if we are out of area and can’t attend. Whats the link ?
  10. Apogee is not even in the same business anymore to my understanding.
  11. Jellyfish IPA very quenching
  12. How does Frank Harris have another year of eligibility? Ugh…
  13. I and many of us in here find it extremely useful. Many days I come on here mainly to see offers and who we are looking at.
  14. The irony is Rice has one of the biggest endowments the nation, they just refuse to spend any of it on athletics.
  15. Yes and I also think the 12 spots for playoffs further diminishes the P5 G5 conundrum. Aresco has been very determined to remove this stigma and hopefully it will finally happen. A program like Cincy has every right to be considered a “Power” program as Oregon State does.
  16. Agreed. Would be a good question for Jared. Seems like the main campus wants to keep their distance from South Dallas but is best buds with Frisco, Med school in Ft Worth and law school. A bad look.
  17. Interesting to see that they have a dedicated coach for El Paso and San Antonio. Also that they have dedicated so much personnel to central texas and austin. In the past these areas would not have been as heavily focused on. Also it seems like Littrell would have every coach out recruiting DFW in some respect.
