  1. Oh I've been around. Had a lot going on this last year or so. Crowd last night was awesome guys. Thanks for coming out. Hopefully that emotion carries over to tonight and the MG get a great and much needed win.
  2. Scott, Not a dumb question in the least. As Gabe mentioned the event is very family oriented so come one, come all. Thanks for the good words guy. We were very impressed with the turn out both times last year (one was freezing cold and there was still a great crowd). Weather/temp looks good for this week so we're looking forward to another great time. Any songs that you guys have seen from our list that you definitely want to hear let me know. Matt
  3. The Pour House is always packed when we play there. Its one reason that we've never gotten tired of going there even after 5 years of gigs there. I've seen a ton of UNT people there over the years both when I was in school and once I graduated. That place is just a lot of fun. It gets kinda scary on stage sometimes because it's easy for drunks to get up there but most of all because of the floor. Since its on the second story you can feel the floor bending when there's a lot of people dancing a jumping around. I haven't spent much time at the Saucer, though I know of its popularity. Its one of those places on the list of "to check out".
  4. Sure thing. Our website has a couple of samples that we recorded in our house when we were students and our myspace has some too. Not sure if they're the same songs on both sites. They both have a playlist on them. www.SpaceMonkeyBand.com and www.myspace.com/spacemonkeyband We haven't played in Denton except for the UNT gigs but we've been around for 8 years now. We've played most of the popular sports bars and night clubs with live bands in the DFW area like Sherlock's, Carson's, and The Pour House. I'd say our draw is playing music that people know and also throwing in a lot of songs that people know and don't hear every day.
  5. Hey there fellow eagles. It's been a long time since I've been on here but I've been reading every once in a while when I could. This Friday is the pep rally before the LA Monroe game. A band called Space Monkey (relation) is the nights entertainment. We played a couple of pep rallies last season including the night before the SMU win. We do cover music - top 40, dance and rock, etc. Myself and another band member are NT grads. We're looking forward to it as both times we've played these events it has been an awesome time. Come help keep that spirit and tradition going. Free food, free stuff like t-shirts, the cheerleaders, and free music from Space Monkey. Hope to see both students and fellow alumni there supporting the team and some NT grads.
  6. My fault, I missed that line in the career stats page. You're correct. I think its disingenuous (not to mention presumptive) to think of them as the same player except McGwire was "juiced up", but I can see where that thought is derived from. Fact is McGwire's numbers were still better than Kingman's before the alleged period of "hormone growth garbage". There is in fact a lot of debate that Kingman should be in the hall. If Kingman were in the hall, would you say McGwire should be too? And yes, I would say Bonds should be in the hall.
  7. Way to keep your feet on the ground amidst all the new coach hysteria!
  8. Kingman is hardly comparable to McGwire. He hit roughly 140 fewer homers in the same number of seasons. Kingman never hit more than 37 homers in a season and didn't even reach that high until 5 and 6 season into his career . McGwire hit 49 his rookie year. And he did that hitting 4th and 5th behind Jose Canseco the vast majority of the season. McGwire averaged 38.25 homers his first 4 years in the majors. He only dropped to a measly ( ) 22 when he had significant injuries in 1991. McGwire has the highest HR to AB ratio of all time. He's won at least one gold glove, maybe more I don't recall. He has a world series ring, several LCS titles, played in 12 all-star games, won the all-star home run derby in the mid 90's. Those who say he only admittedly did andro are 100% correct. Subsequent evaluations have been shown that Adro doesn't really do as much as people thought it did. It is much less potent than supplements like creatine, which I might add Sammy Sosa (during the famous home run chase season) and a large amount of MLB players have admitted to using for many years. People want to say he used roids with no proof of such useage. I'd say its likely, but most people also agree that a lrage amount of players use/used roids too. That essentially levels the playing field across MLB each season. Maybe it tarnishes past records, but if McGwire hits 70 home runs off of pitchers who are also using roids, then why is he worse than them? I'd bet you money that Bob Gibson and a lot of those old time pitchers probably weren't throwing fastballs in the high 80s, low 90's in the 8th inning. And yet, McGwire, even if all juiced up, wasn't htting homers that went miles beyond those hit by Mantle. He just did it more efficiently. You're going to say that the most prolific home run hitter in the history of baseball does not deserve to be enshrined in the hall of fame? I don't think you can keep him out because what he did in 1998 for baseball is probably the biggest thing that has been done for baseball in my lifetime thus far, and will quite possibly stay that way until I die. From a personal standpoint, he's one of the most humanitarian and giving stars that most professional sports have seen within the last 30 years. Name another major athlete who has started his own foundation with his own money to help abused children. Beyond all that, you really think that there's not a single player already in the hall of fame, who if I named them you would probably go to great lengths to defend their place in history, who didn't do drugs? I'm sure there's pot smokers, crack addicts, wife beaters, etc aplenty in Cooperstown.
  9. http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/ESPNSports/story?id=1529875 It's old news but its pretty interesting.
  10. Thus the face. I was curious why the original poster put Iowa State
  11. Oh man.........I hope he doesn't take the Iowa State job.....
  12. Tuesday 11:31 Washington, D.C., Hart Senate Office Building, room 216 *********Excerpt********* Senator Carl Levin: "Dr. Gates, do you consider yourself a candidate for the head coaching job at the University of North Texas?" Dr. Gates: "Senator I have no had contact with Rick V at this time, but when Osama Bin Laden is at large you never know where he might turn up. If coaching North Texas could help keep our nation safe then I'll gladly coach "
  13. Tuesday, 10:58 For updates see any thread on the front page other than this one
  14. I wasn't digging this post until the jab at the end. Nonetheless, I think it's unlikely for a coordinator at a well regarded program to leave to be the coordinator at a struggling well regarded program. They'd be more likely to have visions of head coaching jobs dancing in their heads.
  15. UPDATE: Things are the same since the last post. /UPDATE
  16. I didn't understand half that post. Largely due to rambling sentences with little structure. But I think you took mine out of context. As stated, a very good coach is expected, but it seems that a lot of people have "gone overboard" with their expectations, acting like UNT ought to be commanding big time resume's and names. Hayden Fry is a Hall of Famer, but when he came to UNT he wasn't the hottest coach in America. He'd had some good success, yes, but there were surely people who weren't fully satisfied with that hire. All coaches started out as "some position coach" at "some university". Some folks need to get over themselves and focus on good coaches, rather than names and glamour. Case in point: Since you mentioned Boise State: Chris Petersen was on the coaching staff at Oregon before going to Boise State. Prior to that in 1993 and 94 he was the Quarterbacks coach at Portland State University. Whoever implied that position coaches at anywhere U had no place coaching was clearly dead on target.
  17. Anywhere university and their line-players may very well have done better than 3-9 this year. Too many people on this baord expect this program to pull in some hot shot coach. A very good coach is a reasonable expectation, but careful on taking it overboard.
  18. What year did she grad? I'm class of 2000...first 4 year class.
  19. Yeah, thats crazy and all, but nothing beats this http://www.fanblogs.com/ncaa/005980.php
  20. No, that is the team they beat this year (their exaulted conference win) came against a team that they lost to last season by a TD. My apologies for confusion of semantics. I agree with the post about playing Texas teams and La teams. I look forward to next year's SMU game, but I've been telling my dad for years now that UNT would heavily benefit from a yearly matchup with TCU and/or SMU. Someday that might come about because of conference alignment, but I think now would be a good time to institute one of those (I'm not sure if next year's SMU game is intended to become a yearly event). The reason I say its beneficial is that at least metroplex channels would carry the game, and attendance would be larger than usual. Not to mention that recruits who are looking to stay in the DFW area would be able to see that going to UNT would mean getting area recognition as the top team in the metroplex. As far as the SB being more geographically convenient that is only the case as of this year, and even now it still has its troubles (traveling to Miami) but then again, the Big 12 has that problem too, to a minor extent (ranging from College Station and Austin to Ames, IA). But previously NT had to travel to Idaho, and even to Utah I believe. I think smaller conferences are starting to realize they need to become more clustered when they can rather then extending across 7 state lines. Being an Indy def does not help this. ND has to travel all over the map.
  21. how well they played? 41-13 allowing just under 600 yds of total offense? Yes the loss could have been a lot worse, but I'm still nto sure I'd call that game playing well. Further, its reasonable to expect that anyone will get better over time. I should clarify something. I'm not saying that teams who jump up a conference ought to be competing right away. If NT did that I would expect them to be in the cellar for atleast 2 or 3 years, probably longer. However, some people have complained about the SB over the last couple of years (I have done that), and some of those same people have complained about not winning games this year. So I'm just illustrating that within the conference NT is experiencing the drop in production that other teams (MTSU) are, and that if they had jumped ship, we might have been complaining about that for the last couples of years. That being said, I think that if we had moved to CUSA or a different conference roughly two years ago that we'd have seen better recruits and have better future potential than where we are now.
  22. Not really. Why don't you go look at their losses. Only a couple of them were anything that could be considered "games". The one win (by Idaho) was a conference game indeed, but even that was a game they only lost by a touchdown last year. Combined they are expected to win (as predicted by CFN) a whopping total of 5 games!! I guess a good question is what makes you think they will not lose all or even most of the rest of their games?
  23. People already commented on how not one SBC team has an overall winning record. But check out two teams which were in SBC and then switched conferences (to the WAC). Idaho (who was decent) and New Mexico State (who was always a top foe for NT) are a combined 1-11 in the Wac. In a couple weeks another win will be added but only because these two teams are playing each other. So, for a team who routinely whipped up on the SB, but faced some tough opponents such as MTSU and New Mexico state you can see that MTSU has experienced a somewhat equal drop compared to NT, and NT surely would not have fared much better in a different conference. thats probably not worthy of conversation, but I found it interesting to look at the fortunes of those who jumped ship and are feeling the heat because of it.
  24. I'm not done readin gall the other posts, but for those people who want a coach with a history of a good defense Mike Hankwitz might leave CU to be a head coach for the right price. That price might be very high but that all depends on what he's making right now. Anyone know a place to pull such figures?
  25. How many Albino Squirrels would it take to get our running game back on track? Lets say we gave Ol' Whitey 20 carries a game: How many yards? How many scores? How many fumbles?
