  1. I feel the PAC rebuild gets less likely every week. It seems like some serious heavy lifting and would need to be led by a program who wants nothing to do with its potential members. The PAC had a great run. Put her in the graveyard with the SWC and look forward. Beat Cal. GMG
  2. You need more fill in the west. I like the initial graph, but get UNLV and CSU and/or AF to bridge the west. Perhaps Fresno to get a second cali presence. GMG
  3. They are about to face the reality that UNT UTSA FAU UAB and Rice are about to start beating them in the major sports 🏈 🏀. Tulane already does, ECU probably will, it’s a sobering internal struggle. Yet they lash out at the conference quality. It’s one of the wildest cases of wtf I’ve ever seen. They should go Indy to save the embarrassment to come. They can create their own schedule and whine to the clouds. GMG
  4. They fit the ACC small privates well. I’m excited we get to go get another major market team or team with some street cred and potential. That is not what smu has been for awhile. I take the Morris approach. Invest and blast forward with those who want to build, enhance and be here. When this all settles one day we will be with teams with similar regional profiles, like Texas Tech, Okie State, Houston, UTSA, Memphis, and others. Right now we are in a nice pole position with green brightness on the horizon. GMG
  5. That thought ran across my mind immediately. We could have the slots of 12p, 2:30p, 7p and 9p covered every weekend. It’s like ESPN programming within one conference. Build an alliance of games with the Big 12 and the programming would draw eyeballs from morning to late night. GMG
  6. The Big 12 rep today said it’s a zero sum game and that is why the Bug 12 went so hard. Someone has to win and it why the 12 ate the PAC. Makes me think of the AAC going strong for Boise San Diego State Cal Stanford CSU AF OSU UNLV and Wazzu. That’s the western bridge. Remaining slot(s) to the ACC shakeouts. GMG
  7. I like that Aresco seems to be holding his cards close to his chest. I bet he plans a work through with the MWC based on the PACS move. I could see the PAC going the way of the SWC and disappearing. I could see the pairing of programs to make sure everyone has a home. I could see an outright poaching attempt. But Aresco isn’t sitting still despite the silence. Leftover programs after the PAC invites leave only 1 that fits our profile and two maybes. San Jose State fits the AAC. Hawaii and New Mexico are stretches but could have some intrigue. Personally without some anchors in Colorado I wouldn’t go too far west. Better situation would be UNLV, SDSU, San Jose State or Fresno, Boise, AF, Colorado State. GMG
  8. Thank you for your generosity. The next generation of leaders appreciate your vision and values. GMG
  9. The Big 12 is not scary. I don’t care who joins. The AAC needs its new and established programs to bring it, every game, every opportunity. The gap between the 12 and our new league has closed not widened. All programs outside the sec and big will have to work like heck to compete and make their mark. And the opportunity is there whether you are 12, mountain, American, pacific, Atlantic, sun belt or mid. A new day a new way. GMG
  10. It’s fascinating. For the first time ever as a UNT fan I get to sit back like an SEC’er and watch programs eat their own. UNT has always been part of the not invited but Wants in club or joining the league that has just been gutted club. This is a rare sight line. What I would like to see happen is: ASU and Zona - go Big 12. They fit this league. They expand the league just west enough and bring good bball and late night football games. Utah - forced to big 12. They won’t go willingly, but like TAMU had to swallow that rivalry with Texas again. The Holy War must return. Or they will be in an elevated Mountain West. They have a long shot at the Big but make them decide. Stick around and take your chances or bolt to complete the mountain expansion sweep. The PAC - expand with a slew of G5 teams. This pushes Oregon and Washington to the brink and the Big. Their media deal gets pushed to steaming and mid week games. SMU now joins the elevated Mountain West with a worse viewership scheduling situation. A word to our friends: Memphis - I look forward to developing that football and basketball rivalry in Denton and Tennessee. SMU, Rice and Tulane - you fit the PAC profile. You’ve got decisions to make. USF - look forward to getting to know you. That FAU rivalry will become REAL. UTSA - don’t get tempted to go west. Mountain West - go if you can but Colorado State and Air Force should look to AAC to swing through Big 12 country where the Buffs will be lurking. The new PAC post major program defections: Stanford Cal Washington State Oregon State SDSU SMU Tulane Rice Boise State UNLV Hawaii Fresno State The new PAC is above recognized quality of the AAC with fewer eyeballs and worse scheduling. The AAC gets prime opportunity to build off its major market teams recent success and gets to reload strategically. GMG
  11. Have a button ready to hit and welcome CSU into AAC Big 12 country. They will enjoy following big brother into the heart of Texas recruiting. Get UNLV or Boise as travel partner. UNLV preferred. GMG
  12. To me the only way this idea gets traction is if the Big 12, ACC get behind it. PAC doesn’t seem to care what happens to it. But we are not far off from most of the programs rising up to forge new rules. GMG
  13. No thank you. Army Navy owns that weekend and I look forward to it every year! Even had a ticket for the game last year, bucket list, but project up east cancelled. That game is magical. GMG
  14. Wyoming isn’t going down. They are who they are and love it. True mountain grit state. They have a fierce rivalry with Colorado State which I am confident they would maintain if CSU ever jumped to the AAC. They will be like WKU in CUSA, a strong MWC program after the MWC transforms. GMG
  15. I don’t agree with a few of the sentiments in here. 1. I believe we are perceived above our southland friends, now cusa with SH. I’ve followed New Mexico UNLV and Hawaii closely. We have better big programs than all those schools right now. They are in the MWC but the AAC is about to surpass them as the strongest G5, just a notch below the PAC when Oregon and Washington depart. In fact, I would invite mega city UNLV to the AAC and rotate all tournaments between New Orleans and Las Vegas. 2. it’s not the student at UNT. We have to go after the community. San Antonio goes after the community and their students show up. We always try to go after alum or go after students but create a family fun environment for the kids of the Community and the parents will bring them. It works in Frisco with FC Dallas 8 sellouts this season, some being in the blazing heat and really cold. Hire a Stars or Mavericks exec to create energy and linkage with the community and watch the average attendance tick up and up and up. Students and dormant alum will show up when we are sexy and cool. GMG
  16. It almost feels as if you won’t need a conference in the future. You need commitment, eye balls, and opportunity games. This is why that comment about smu independence is not far fetched. At this point smu should run its program like a professional sports team. It would probably draw more fans. Our gifts are our alumni base size and location. More high profile wins And runs blow air on this hot ember. GMG
  17. I think academics holds Boise back and that has to be a ploy by Stanford and Cal. But if UNLV gets invited all bets are off and you may as well invite Boise. Of Boise is left in a tattered mountain west, they need to be on the AAC target list along with AFA and CSU. GMG
  18. There are UNT billboards in San Antonio Austin and Waco too. It’s unlike any university marketing push I’ve ever seen. The ones you see around DFW are all over the state. GMG
  19. Honey Citrus Blonde from Community. Very nice. go summer
  20. East Side Social House on The Hill. 40 taps and tv’s in the north concourse. It’s a meeting in the Eagles wings. GMG
  21. I’m telling you Mason Fine bobble head night would be a serious draw. GMG
  22. Welcome to the political side of the business. Hire coaches aka influencers that make them want to bleed Mean Green. Relationships always win. GMG
  23. So much pride seeing this fire truck. I have seen the professional ones in Frisco at the Star for the Cowboys and FC Dallas. Dang sweet. That Denton pride for our their University makes me think there is a marketing plan to be had: Denton County Pride. Make it a competition give the participating businesses and organizations small blocks of wing tickets to distribute at their desire. When we win the community is going to seek out those tickets. Inexpensive entertainment for local families. GMG
  24. In my F&B trainings I tell servers “I want you to speak enthusiastically about your menu. If it sounds like you like your foods and beverages I’m going to be more enthusiastic to order your options, enjoy them, spend more on them. D Magazine said this was a big deal! UNT just won the second most important national basketball tournament in the country. I think LSU would disagree, 2nd or 3rd it’s still a big freaking deal. Two things: I love how business-like Jared is. I feel our athletics is safe under his watch. He is not a cheerleader. Hodge May be be amazing and I am excited he is leading us. Unless there is a big personality unleash I am not sure he is a cheerleader. They can’t be Grant. Be yourselves and continue us on this great trajectory. But we need a Party. The players deserve a round of love from the UNT faithful. The Maniacs deserve another dress up day. With that said we are Denton. Parade takes planning. To Ricks point it’s too late. The super pit would look sad. Have a street party at Eastside. Have a maniacs section. Have a stage the team can raise the trophy on one more time. Bring business to a fan favorite. Have a food truck blowout. Have some local bands play make it a 3-4 hour event on a weekend or Thursday night to get the kids. If FC Dallas can sellout almost every game after years of empty stadiums we can improve in this area. They hired a Dallas Mavericks marketer and boom. “This person” needs to be hired for our athletic department. We’ve got the serious boardroom guys hired, ready to go. We need the unreasonable sales guru, cheer leader, fan link, maniacs follower, gomeangreen watcher…the type of person who might even make Jared a little squishy. Lastly, make the banner night something amazing to remember forever, until we get Big Dance banners ordered. A save the date please like a wedding invite. I and many need to drop this into a calendar and schedule around it. GMG
