  1. The Ticket on the Internet. Only when I get into work Bad Radio is already on and then I get the the Hardline. Sometimes I listen the evening program to get the highlights from Norms and the Musers shows. Good to get the Dallas update daily. Aloha GMG beatlatech
  2. Sunday night college football that is not on Labor Day weekend or during Bowl Week just doesn't feel right, and I'm a CF addict! aloha
  3. Southern - facts are one thing - stewing on a board of blown up Mean Green fans is another thing. Get over it. We suck and we know we suck - the change is coming. As for Meager being good, please! I am with the poster that has major concerns about the DEVELOPMENT of our entire team, coaching staff, fanbase...The fanbase is probably doing the best in a muck of a situation (thanks RV), but the players are not Mean Green players. This team is not good and we all know that, but I sure do see other programs bring in new coaches, new systems, new players and make something happen. Please do not be disillusioned by being in the SBC anymore. If programs in the middle of rural America can grab talent, sell hope and develop players, then a program in the middle of Freaking North TEXAS sure as heck can get a few gems and grow them. We aren't even competing anymore! I tell you it is like hell watching the nations top offense move chains with practically every down in Hawaii and then sit back and watch us struggle to toss a 3 yard pass. Disgusting. Please change this coaching staff soon! You can tell I just watched the Cowboy game - damn, I feel like I have been watching years upon years of dreadful football - is it Mavs season yet! GMG
  4. I've got to root for La La because I don't think CUSA is going to have enough eligible teams to fill its bowl slots. If a Troy, ASU, ULL or MTSU are sitting there bowl eligible we might get an opportunity to showcase 2 teams in bowls come December - hopefully winning 1 or both of them. The SBC is making strides and we must take advantage of this down CUSA year. It's a stretch but I hope we win on Saturday! These gameplan games that I get to actually get to see are valuable! The last one was a dud. Beat Arkie State! GMG
  5. Texas is a poor comparison because doesn't a team that "out-athletes" you beat you no matter what type of offense you run? A spread offense or Dickey ball would fail in the long run on a consistent basis, but a spread offense might keep you in the game a bit longer or at least give you a chance to come back. The one note you made about the running back is huge. This is the first year I have seen UH with a true running threat in Nate Ilawa. You have a perfect storm brewing in the 50th state because Colt Brennan (Transfer from Colorado) is a stud. Nate reminds me of Brandon in his size and in how low to the ground he runs - his balance is phenomenal. They are having no problem confusing defenses and had a chance to pull off upsets in Tuscaloosa and Boise. They fell short by a touchdown in both games but those places are tough to win at. I am not saying throw the running game out the window, because you can't if you want to win in a Leach/Jones system. However, take a look at the type of ball being played at the high school level. There are more players being developed in that Southlake Carroll system than ever before. Someone mentioned earlier about the practice required to run it and that poster was right on. The amount of passes that get thrown at a UH practice is huge. You pass and catch and pass and catch and pass and catch and test routes for hours on end. Whoever the coach is make sure they know how to teach a system and that they are an expert in that system. He can then bring in the coaches to fill the deficiencies and bingo - a good D, creative O, solid coaching adjustments = wins! beat arkie state
  6. Dickey doom and gloom. Meager's comments even sounded like a good dose of Dickey influence. I am grateful we won and confident we learned as a result of being pushed to the nth degree, but get over it already. Admit that it was an ugly win, that our performance to date is below standard and that we are ready to fight like hell to take down the defending co-champ! That dickey poor is me talk is why there needs to be a change after this season. GMG
  7. I have been thinking the same thing after watching all three Hawaii home games this year. There isn't a June Jones or Mike Leach type offense in the Metroplex. That type of offense would draw certain types of players and if you think about generation Next that might just be the type of game they are interested in playing. It would be a massive philosophy change for the Program and fanbase to overcome, but it sure does seem effective. It puts fannies in the seats, that is for sure. GMG
  8. That upside down Bulldog is classic. Can Hawaii actually pull off a road win against the despised FSU bulldogs? I heard the Bulldogs were booed off their own field after dropping one to Colorado State a couple of weeks ago. After losing in Logan the FS Nation is going to be calling for Pat Hill's head! interesting game to come. GMG beat bye!
  9. What a historical night! I joined the internet broadcast when we were up 2-0. I thought I had accidentally re-logged back onto the Tulsa game. We go up 5-0 and then I am frustrated because with all the breaks and good field position we can do NOTHING!. I continue to get disheartened as we fall apart and the Panthers go up 13 - 5. I leave the internet broadcast in the early 4Q to attend a meeting followed by a trip to Aloha Stadium. I am bummed throughout the night and venting to my friend about the Mean Green loss and dreadful play. Though I am in my Mean Green shirt and hat I feel like I am cheating on my team with every roar for Warriors after a score. I head home and decide to turn on the ticker to get the final score and yelled out - WE WON! IN OVERTIME! Later CSTV reports that in our first OT game we played 7OTs!!! LOST is not just a show filmed on this island. I start trying to do the math and decide that certainly: 1. I heard wrong 2. I drank too much beer at the UH game 3. I have been up since 6:00am watching football so the math skills are worn 4. A combination of all of the above Reading the board today brings back those memorable games of years past. This is my 20th year of UNT fandom and the games that this would have joined had I been there were: Miracle in the Desert, Utah State, SHSU (ended like the Cowboy game did today). Enjoy the win no matter how we got it! At least you could have been there. At a minimum it's another week to keep the NOB alive! GMG
  10. The good thing is that in years past we were 0fer or maybe 1 win - MTSU over Vandy and we were losing to the 1AAs. A couple of weeks ago a Honolulu radio host was dogging bad programs around the country. He mentioned how terrible Illinois (before they beat MSU), and Indiana were this year and others. He went on to comment that they wouldn't be able to win the Sun Belt this year. This is a market that doesn't have any love for the SBC so I actually took that as a compliment. The perception of the Belt is gradually improving and that win by U Laf over the other UH was huge! H-town just played with Miami last week. Good job GREEN! Arkie State's win was good for them and this is going to be a fun race. Hopefully we can be in it or impact it! GMG
  11. As to the Conference Champion question - I am not sure we would have won without Dickey. He was the right coach at the right time. We are at a different level with different expectations now, as we should be. GMG
  12. Friend, I hope Dickey's future is already determined. I would still like a change even with a win over La Tech and Bowl game. Of course that probably has a snowballs chance in heck in happening anyway, but I hope to see change even if all the cards were to fall right in the next 3 months. GMG
  13. The good news is that Rick is going to get re-energized by having the opportunity to bring in some fresh blood. You know RV has some thoughts and may be able to land the fish to help take NT into a new and improved era. That era begins a few short weeks and certainly some resumes are being updated as I type! GMG
  14. Glanville is an interesting name. I have been to both of Hawaii's home games this year and Jones and Glanville have finally put it together. Last year there were still big question marks and they failed to reach the bowl. This year they blew out UNLV and held them to under 15 points. They blew out Eastern Illinois, ranked 20th in D1AA 44 - 9 and yes EIU would have kicked the hell out of UNT this year. They held Alabama to 25 points in the opener and only lost to Boise by 7, a team they have never beat since they joined the WAC. Hawaii's offense is stout this year, so I think Glanville benefits from the Warriors big leads; however, he is a Mainlander through and through. I bet you he would look very closely at an opportunity in the Great State of Texas. He wears his Cowboy hat at every practice. Slocum would be interesting, but I am torn on experience versus connection. A young gun energetic coach would connect with today's generation which is HUGE! Look at what is happening at Rutgers. Whoever the coach is they must have attendance tied to their contract. Other names that are going to be available soon - Coker and John L. Both have awesome experience. GMG
  15. Seeing the Superdome open tonight brought goosebumps and major emotions. If I can I am going to go to the New Orleans Bowl Mean Green or not. That city needs visitors and much much more. It would be great to sing and dance with the people of the Big Easy again this fall amongst the MG Nation. Time to turn it up and go 2-0 before the end of the State Fair! GMG
  16. People do care believe it or not. People know who North Texas is. I actually think the toothpaste green is working - the smu game was fantastic - the stadium was TOOTHPASTE GREEN! I don't care what color green we use, just wear your gear, and wear it as often as possible. I wore that same North Texas shirt to the Hawaii vs UNLV game on Saturday night. You can give me a beer and put me in Aloha Stadium but you can't take the Mean Green out or off me! This guy was a local who just loved to bet on sports I gathered. However, with all the Texan vacationers I often get smiles, "go mean green" and comments from people on the streets. Heck I get that from OU fans too, because familiarity is good when wandering the beach thousands of miles from Texas during football season. ambush akron GMG
  17. I am walking down Waikiki Beach this morning wearing my toothpaste green "North Texas" shirt. This dude sees me coming and makes a face of disgust. He says "I lost a lot of money on your team." We passed each other and he turns around and says, "Can't you all even score?" I smiled and said "at home!" moral of the story - NEVER take UNT on the road to cover because in an OOC game Dickey is going to treat a road OOC game as a scrimmage to get players playing time for conference play. I am convinced he does not care to win these games. He knew SMU was our Fiesta Bowl this year and mission accomplished. Playing competitive in conference (I can't even say "winning the conference") would be the icing on a good year. Next year it's win at SMU a tougher task. For the first time ever I didn't find myself glued to the radio to listen to the game. I stayed busy cleaning my office with the internet on, but did not hang on every play. I have the same level of energy towards Mean Green football going into Akron. Just feel like a burned out fan after last season. The NATION needs a spark! gmg
  18. He won't have to worry about playing on an unfair field for much longer, because he will be out of the ACC before long. beattulsa GMG
  19. SMU 14 North Texas 46 This is about pride. Throw out the skill, throw out the mental breakdowns, throw out the play calling - emotion will take over this game from head to toe or from Dickey to the fans and will another Fouts beatdown much like Baylor encountered just a few short years ago. The Mean Green finally have nothing to lose because very few expect them to even put up a fight. Mean Green Big! Cheering from San Antonio! GMG
  20. Will the band be in full uniform and look SHARP for our biggest game in the last few years? I was not in Austin and did not see any shots of them on TV; however, I have seen bands in general that do not match and look sloppy. A sharp dressed band with spirit can truly add to the gameday atmosphere. I can state this having been a band member in a former life. GMG
  21. I am with you on the suspension of these games until further notice. We are hurting our image and while I use to get excited about going to these places I don't anymore. I have witnessed too many 50 point or more blowout losses to get juiced up about going to Knoxville, Lincoln or Gainesville. Hawaii is just now starting to go into these types of games and I just watched the June Jones show where he was bummed about the mental breakdowns that cost them the game. He stated that HI outplayed them and the score was 25 - 17 when Colt Brennan (HI QB) was intercepted in the endzone with 22 seconds left. They had a chance all the way to the end. We use to play like that and while I saw team improvement on Saturday, I felt like the game was being treated like a scrimmage. This isn't the NFL - we either play to win or don't go at all. I don't mean to sound negative, but certainly we can go into places like Phoenix, Colorado Springs and Nashville and make "some" cash without giving up a return game. GMG
  22. I really see it impacting teams on the comebacks and that is sad. It would have been better had they just not stopped the clock after the first down. What's next stoppage time at the end of the game! I feel like we are watching soccer. GMG
  23. Good defense, but for the second straight year I found myself getting bored. I also found myself tired of the replay. I know it works and some games have a few replays while this game had more, but I kept hoping the next play would just get off so they couldn't stop the game...again. It will be interesting to see who picks up Coker when he becomes available at the end of the year. beat smu GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Smells a lot like TCU last year. They are going to be happy to see us on the schedule next year. You have to believe you can accomplish it before you even have a chance at accomplishing it. I like Dickey's newfound words of encouragement and more upbeat attitude than in the past. The entire coaching staff and us fans need to believe we can go into Akron and Tulsa and win. Both of those teams played pretty well and we will be underdogs, but North Texas CAN beat Akron, LA Tech, Tulsa and SMU. BELIEVE! GMG
