  1. I'm going to try and score one tonight. I'll let you know how it turns out.
  2. I'm for the school with the directional name. GO SC!!
  3. "Sub Belt" ? Maybe in football but not necessarily in basketball.
  4. Go Trojans! I don't want to give UT any extra boost going into September.
  5. Nice to get a great win over a non-belt (or below the belt) team. It's been a long time coming. This is a pretty damn good team, and although I'm not ruling out us making some serious noise this year, next year's team could be something special. AZ state and Wilmington are the only teams that have outplayed us this year. Keep improving and a tourney bid ain't out of the question. Great job guys!
  6. I think that Simpson is a better all around player than Johnson. Much more polished and seems to be getting better all the time. With all of the beef that we have scheduled to come in here next year, too bad we don't have him coming back. He'd make a great power forward.
  7. 345 pound defensive tackles are rare even in the NFL. Booger was one of the few extremely effective guys at (or around) that weight that I have seen in the college game. I would definitely like to see us with a LEGITIMATE 290-300 lb. OL. One more good 300 lb. JC guy might get us close next year. Size inflation ran rampant in Denton this past season.
  8. Arky State did a very good job. To me they were at LEAST as good as S. Miss. The front defensive seven of S. Miss was very good, but I was also very impressed by the front defensive seven of the Indians. Arky State was not even close to being manhandled like we were last year. Just a few bad bounces at the wrong time. A couple of good QB's to go along with a couple of pretty good looking defenses. Not a bad game. Hope we find a QB to get us back next year.
  9. What the hell is a prototypical 1A college quarterback? Successful college quarterbacks come in all shapes and sizes. This ain't the NFL. If it was, I sure wouldn't turn down a Michael Vick or a Doug Flutie. They're both shorter and lighter than this guy is listed. Sounds about the right size (and speed) for Dickey ball. Hope he has the skills to go with it.
  10. Back to the topic. You're certainly correct about our lack of NFL'ers at the skill positions. Hopefully PC will give it a good run next year. If Jamario can get it back together (weight, injuries, etc.), I think he'll be a lock in a couple of years. I also wouldn't rule out JQ as an outside shot. He has marginal NFL size/speed, but he certainly has the hands. I guess all the little intangibles will have to come into play for him to have a chance. Don't see anything at the QB position with DD at the helm. As far as lineman are concerned, we better get it going quick. If we don't get 3-4 big-time JC guys in here immediately, then we better set up a dorm in the weight room. These guys just weren't physically strong enough this year. Maybe the guys we missed this year will make it back. Hope so.
  11. Sounds good. Thanks for the link. 10 yards a carry as a JR sounds pretty impressive. Sign him up!
  12. We're a far-flung conference? I thought that all of the SBC proponents around here claim that proximity is the reason that we should remain in the SBC? Hmmm, somebody is wrong. BTW, that 1AA record is pretty pitiful. I wasn't aware that it was quite that bad.
  13. Congratulations! I'm an accounting grad. also. Didn't stick around for the MS in accounting, but I did get my CPA. Good luck!
  14. Slightly off topic as far as the NFL is concerned, but does anyone know anything about that little RB out of Houston Jones? He was the only player listed in the Houston Chronicle Rivals.com listing last Sunday as considering North Texas. When I say little I mean little. He was listed at 5' 6", 165. He must be good at that size to get those kind of accolades.
  15. A lot of people tend to forget that we played 1A football before we had our little dark age period from roughly the mid-80's to the mid-90's. We have generally played at the top level of football since we began competition in the early 1900's. San Marcos has NEVER in their HISTORY been even close to playing at the top level of collegiate football. Unfortunately, most of our current conference mates are newbies to the 1A level themselves. Not that I'm trying to offend our conference mates, but I wish we could find a way to separate ourselves from the newby pack. Unless it looks like Rice and Tulane are going to hang it up, I SAY GO WACKY!! Sorry I just can't help myself!
  16. TSU doesn't even have its own football stadium and they didn't even make the 1AA playoffs this year. Maybe you guys are talking about that little 1AA program down at TSUSM. Nice high school stadium down there.
  17. They are still Texas State @ San Marcos. They are simply one of the members of the Texas State University System. They are not necessarily considered the "flagship" of that system. It was only a name change. Not a change in leadership. The other members of the system are Sam Houston, Lamar, Sul Ross, and Angelo. If say Sam Houston changed their name to Texas State @ Huntsville, then San Marcos would probably be more commonly referred to as TSSM. Until something like that happens, they will probably just be referred to as Texas State. Since most schools in the system are named after Texas heroes, a name change by anyone other than Angelo sounds unlikely to me. North Texas was a member of the system until shortly after WW2 when we set up our own Board of Regents. If we were to change our name to Texas State @ Denton, we would probably have to rejoin the system. I don't think cosolidation of university systems is totally out of the question down the road. There has been quite a bit of talk about that down in Austin.
  18. Several teams with six+ wins are not going bowling. Three out of the WAC conference sounds pretty good to me. The WAC has four schools whose athletic programs, in my opinion, are currently superior to the programs at North Texas. I'm not including La Tech in that opinion. Since I also consider our overall athletic program to be the best in the SBC, that doesn't say a whole lot for our conference vs. the WAC. All just my wacky opionion of course.
  19. If they can pull out the D that they showed against Oky State then they may have a chance. For some reason, Jonesboro and Lafayette are the only SBC teams that I really have any affection for. GET SOME REVENGE FOR US ARKY STATE INDIANS! WE'RE PULLING FOR YA!
  20. That's only because they're in the WAC.
  21. Wacker was an excellent coach and did a good job there, but to clarify, those were NCAA Division 2 championships. North Texas has never been NCAA Division 2. Also, the football facilities at TSSM are good for 1AA, but I wouldn't say that they are overly impressive. I went to summer school there back in the 80's and had a helluva great time. Not to put down the school, but those were the easiest twelve hours I've picked up in my life. BTW, if a member of the Texas State System such as Angelo State decided to become Texas State at San Angelo, wouldn't that throw a little monkey wrench into any "Texas State" exclusivity that Texas State may be envisioning? Just a thought.
  22. If NT doesn't stop its myopic thinking, San Marcos is going to blow right past us in stature. As I originally thought, the NAME CHANGE (which we blew!!) has invigorated that school in a big way and that is only going to snowball. For the first time, the students there seem to think that they are on scale with the "States" of the world, and with a little success, that is going to lead to dynamic changes for their athletic program. NT has to get extremely agressive in many ways, or I guarantee you that we will be left in the dust by another upstart right here in our own backyard. I wouldn't be surprised if they join the Belt in a couple of years and then immediately take off for the WAC. We need to move up NOW to the next level!! The WAC may only be a half a notch up but it IS something! This 1AA conference caliber stuff has got to stop! We've been around too long for this! SCREW THE GEOGRAPHICAL AND FINANCIAL BS! Let's do it in football only and that argument is irrelevant!
  23. I very much remember our time in the Big West, and I repeat, I am talking football ONLY membership in the WAC. Financial and geographical issues would be extremely minor in a football only WAC vs. SBC football. The two trips to the Miami area this year were not exactly cheap. Jonesboro and Lafayette are not TOO far away, but the only really "close" school in the SBC is Monroe. The rest of them are a pretty good trip. Since we now have an invention called the airplane, football only travel in an SBC vs WAC argument is almost irrelevant.
