  1. The transfer portal has made college football more dog-eat-dog than ever. It feels like teams are being stratified so that if you're not successful, the teams higher up the ladder will clean you out of good players and keep you mired in mediocrity. This comes to mind today as I see a bunch of the star recruits from past Billy Napier classes at UF hitting the portal. The thing keeping him in that job despite his record was his skill as a recruiter.
  2. I'll remember Seth for the great start and the inability to win bowl games and big games aside from shocking Arkansas and knocking off undefeated UTSA. If he does well as the Sooners OC he'll be in the running for the top job when it comes open next.
  3. The 26-game conference winning streak that ran from 2001 to 2005.
  4. "It was the best of offenses, it was the worst of defenses."
  5. Sometimes it doesn't, which is why we play the games. Multiple teams in the last decade have won the natty with a backup quarterback. Picking the CFP based on expectations instead of results is so absurd that Jordan Travis posted on social media he wishes he'd broken his leg "earlier in the season so y'all could see this team is much more than the quarterback."
  6. What makes a team quality is wins. Give me a team that wins over a team that is perceived to be good by a dozen codgers in recliners who'd rather be watching Matlock instead of football.
  7. One of the ironies of FSU's predicament is that the Seminoles were only playing the cupcake North Alabama late in the season because they had to make room for a season opener against LSU in Orlando. LSU was the preseason No. 5. FSU took the risk of scheduling a big SEC opponent in a neutral game to start the season and establish its national contender credibility, then blew the doors off them in an upset.
  8. I was at the FSU/North Alabama game when Travis' leg broke. I figured the national championship dream was over, but I thought it would be because of a loss. Mike Norvell is a hell of a coach to get them to 13-0. Spending so much time in Tallahassee has me biased, but Florida State got robbed. The committee kept them out because of how their third-string quarterback played, even though he would not have played a down in one month in the playoffs. Teams have won the natty with backup quarterbacks but now that's viewed as impossible? Norvell would've had a month to prepare Rodemaker. The undefeated champion of a P5 conference has always gotten in the playoff. FSU won all their games and their defense played out of their minds after Travis went down. Louisville came in humming on offense with three 30-plus point games. FSU held them to 6. The standard for the playoff should have been about wins and losses, not about a perception of who is going to play better in a month. People keep using TCU as the reason FSU should've been excluded, but TCU showed it belonged by beating Michigan. It's weird that the ACC is being talked about like the G5 even though it has three national championships the past decade. Will the ACC be the next to die after the PAC-12 as ESPN and the other football powers try to form the Premier League of college football?
  9. I'll believe we can replace a 1,000-yard season receiver when it happens. We've only had a half dozen in our history. My point isn't that Morris won't find a way to reload. Maybe he will. Maybe his offensive system will elevate players. But as a fan, watching each offseason as a lot of good players hit the portal is a buzzkill.
  10. Every fan of a G5 school is looking at players entering the portal with alarm. The new normal for most of college football is an offseason that begins with chaos and misery. I'm not going to pretend this is fun. 1,000-yard rushers and 1,000-yard receivers don't grow on trees.
  11. Coming here and finding a portal entry thread 10 PAGES LONG reminded me of a joke. Man goes to the doctor for test results. Doctor says, "I've got good news and bad news. The good news is you have one day to live." Man says, "Then what's the bad news?" "I forgot to tell you yesterday."
  12. With a 12-team playoff, conference championships won't make sense for the P5 conferences. They still will for the G5. Some teams will be hoping that a win gets them in the top 12. Others will be games between teams with no chance of the playoff, so a conference championship is meaningful.
  13. This was a long way from my favorite season, but I love that Morris and the players got to do the victory sprint across the field looking for somebody in green to hug.
  14. What a statistically wild season. For the first time ever, we have a 3,000 yard passer, 1,000 yard rusher, 1,000 yard receiver. Today we gave up 506 yards, which beats the 473.7-yard average that had us in last place in FBS. But we also gained 643 yards, which goes way above the 482.4-yard average that had us in ninth place in FBS.
  15. I just got my message board promotion to Veteran rank. Never was North Texas fandom more earned than watching this defense all season long. I even had to watch it in higher broadcast quality than we got in CUSA.
  16. TV announcer talks during the slo-mo replay expecting to see pass interference ...never sees pass interference ... reaffirms his belief that it was pass interference.
  17. What the hell, Scrappy? Skipping hand-in-hand with the opponent's mascot is the kind of thing Eppy would do.
  18. Maybe Morris demoted Caponi at halftime in the tune of the Avocados from Mexico jingle.
  19. We have the facilities for other schools to be competitive in. UAB looks impressive today.
  20. Now that you mention it, there is a certain Tudor Electric Football quality to the way they move.
  21. I'm so grateful we aren't bowl eligible. This defense is a never-ending Ray Guy kick to the nads.
  22. My favorite plays are when our defenders are in the right position but it doesn't matter because we can't tackle.
  23. Actually, we're second worst behind USC. At least we were before playing a juggernaut like UAB.
