  1. First, this will all blow over in a few weeks. But during that time, NT is going to take a PR hit. But, in what city is the “Herald Democrat” published?
  2. Gee, with Dodge we could grow to the 5A high school level. Wow. It’s a HIGH SCHOOL football website. OF COURSE those guys would think a high school coach could manage a Division 1 College program. If you want Dodge for offensive coordinator, that would be great. But, the guy just doesn’t have the experience yet in a variety of areas: having to generate fan interest; real recruiting; managing in a school where academics is actually more important than football ...
  3. “National” in the case of MSNBC is relative. MSNBC’s ratings are extremely low. Word 100 reaches a larger audience!
  4. RV wanted to kill a bad rumor quickly. If you notice the time stamp, he posted at midnight. For most of us, the rumor was killed before 9am. I don’t know if a reporter asked him about contacting the USM Coach. The first place I read about it was here. The first place anyone was upset about was here. And here is where RV fixed the problem by spending one minute to post a simple message. If someone from another school thinks getting the accurate word out to the correct people faster, at a lower cost while involving few staff is some how “unprofessional,” why should I care? Let them go back to their mimeograph and spent the money for stamps and three days to get a letter delivered!
  5. I’m curious why anyone Rick personally knows would be a bad hire? They guy has worked in college athletics quite a while. He has met and worked with quite a few football coaches. I’m sure some of the people Rick has met through the years are quite qualified to be head coaches. Why is there this blind paranoia that Rick is going to “hire a buddy” who by definition would be a “terrible hire?”
  6. Wait, you’re saying getting correct information out to the fan base in the quickest way possible is “unprofessional?” It’s better to let the fans get angry and start the emails, phone calls and letters flowing over an erroneous internet rumor when a very short explanation stops it in it’s tracks is more “professional?” A short statement to the fans fixes the problem without the office staff being hit with 500 phone calls and thousands of emails. Dealing with all of that would be a waste of time and resources. That would appear to be better management.
  7. The Cajuns are about to be the answer to a great trivia question: what team play two consecutive games against lame-duck coaches? I doubt anyone else ever has.
  8. I think anywhere he happens to be will be “the hardest job in the country.” After all, he would work there everyday!
  9. See also NMSU, Idaho and a host of others. Sometimes you get lucky, mostly don’t. Someone other than me always seems to win the Lotto!
  10. Bring back Coach Genero! (However you spell his name!)
  11. If whomever is hired sucks in his 4th season, RV should be fired! I expect at least two years a losing record, roughly even in the 3rd and we should be winning in the 4th. It’s how teams are built. If the coach can’t do that, they should be let go.
  12. It generally takes a new coach 3 to 5 years to build a team to his liking. Sometimes they get lucky on it only takes 2. We can hope to be lucky, but don’t plan on it.
  13. I was surprised they did it during the season since most coaches are fired at the end of the season.
  14. Wait a second now. The guy with 28 years college coaching experience would be a “disaster,” but the guy who has virtually no college background at all would be the best of all possible worlds?
  15. I follow college football, but I could not tell you the top high school in Florida or California. O Ohio. Other than people who have kids at other schools on the “Mythical HS Top 10” list, I don’t think many pay attention to this list at all.
  16. If I’m getting the time stamps correctly, their “source” is a poster from this board who “heard” this morning from yet another unnamed source.
  17. The guy in that video is not someone who could build excitement right away. Now, with some media training he might be able to.
  18. We might get lucky and have a quick transition. But, I’m expecting 3 years to be winning consistently and 4 to be favored for a championship no matter who the coach is. If it’s Dodge, I can already hear recruiters from other schools, “You can go play for the high school guy, but if you’re going to college, would it make more sense to play for a team with a college coach?”
  19. I'm not sure about Dodge. He's been outstandingly successful at one high school, though he coached at more than one. I remember a high school coach who's offense won a 5A championship for Judson, then he moved on to Marshal and won a 5A championship with his offense there. Against Judson, no less! NT hired Parker and it never worked very well. Of course, his OC was none other the Todd Dodge.
  20. Certainly not always true. And at the college level, not even true most of the time. Yes, Tech has SBC Jones Stadium, but you can't tell me a corporation hasn't thrown far more money at UT or OU to get naming rights to their stadiums. How many Big 12 teams play in stadiums with corporate naming rights? And some of the corporate names have reasons. Louisville has Pappa Johns, but the guy did go to school there. The same situation with Troy. In both cases, an alum can throw some corporate money toward a cause the personally believe in, but have to do it in a way that keeps the stockholders from revolt over waste. Odus Mitchell is the most deserving of our coaches in this regard. Who are our two most famous former players and for whom did they play? Who was our longest tenured coach?
  21. I've heard some good things about Dodge in the past, but never the slightest hint that he's a salesman. SLC doesn't need a salesman - they were big winners before Dodge arrived and will be after he's gone.
  22. Now, Tim can’t exactly go out and do research in the middle of a live chat!
  23. Really? Who is playing? I haven’t heard about it.
  24. No, averaging 22K will pay the bills. That’s the actual point! If we average 22K, we are probably have some 28K games and a few 19K games. To average 30000 in a stadium that only seats 30500 is not practical. And a lot of the C-USA schools are averaging LESS than 20K. Most MAC schools average less than 20K. Most WAC schools average less than 20K.
  25. We would kill for a 30K crowd! That would fill the stadium within a few of capacity. If we can get our average crowd to around 22K, we could completely drop the body bag games.
