Have we reached the golden age of North Texas athletics?
VideoEagle replied to Dannymacfan's topic in Mean Green Football
I don't think so. However, people rarely realize they are in a "golden age" while it is happening. -
Looking at some of his social media besides twitter, he still has a full time real job in IT. Plus, he's got four daughters including a couple (at least) that are still in grade school. The guy is busy. Everything I read he's doing a generally good job as mayor except tweeting about UNT. If you're a Denton resident and concerned, pick up the phone and call him. Send him an email. Go to a Chamber of Commerce event and talk to him personally. He's not some unreachable guy! The UNT Homecoming should be promoted mostly by UNT. It is FAR more than a football game! It should be UNT coordinating promotions with the city AND the county. But you can't do that the week of the event - they should have started in July or August planning the promotions! That UNT dropped the promotion opportunity is not the Mayor of Denton's fault.

Brett Vito's Influence On The Program
VideoEagle replied to 2020 Sucks's topic in Mean Green Football
That is better than Brett simply making up quotes! Of course, I'll be he could write some very interesting articles is he chose to make up some quotes! -
True! But Thursdays are even worse!
-
A Thursday night home game for Rice certainly won't help their average attendance.

Back in the 70s, the color was somewhere between apple green and chartreuse, leaning a bit closer to chartreuse.

From the article, “It could have been targeting,” Littrell said. “That’s why they have cameras and review. They made their professional judgment, and they didn’t think it was targeting. I’m not going to comment on officials. “They have a job to do and made the call.” I’m glad Littrell chose not to criticize the officials. As a coach, that can only cause problems for him and the team going forward. But what do you the Brett? How was that NOT targeting other than just a total mistake on the part of the officials? And the thought we even have a chance to get Adaway back is great news!

Brett Vito's Influence On The Program
VideoEagle replied to 2020 Sucks's topic in Mean Green Football
Oh hell no! Not even maybe. He is suppose to objectively report to the best of his ability. He does a good job at that the vast majority of the time. You don't want a reporter, you want a cheerleader that can write. If you want that, just read the press releases from the athletic department and skip all other coverage. -
As general rule, reporters tend to question canning coaches who are doing even slightly better than .500. I remember the press pilloried Nebraska for firing Frank Stolich for failing to live up to the school's expectations after a 9-3 season.

Yes!

It’s too early to pick which bowl we could end up playing in. The three games and then a possible fourth will determine our actual choices. I’m confused by some of the pros and cons listed. The Sun Belt is listed as perceived inferior yet one the the things many hate about CUSA is that “everyone” ranks the SBC over CUSA. It can’t be both!

I'm not sure how you win 8 or more games and then win an additional conference championship game without winning six first. You have to win six to get to seven. You have to win seven to eight. If you don't win the six first, you'll never get into the conference championship game. If you don't get into the conference championship game, you can't win the conference. It's basic goal setting - somethings must happen before others are possible.

Yes, they are all winnable. Obviously, the coaching staff made adjustments after the UTSA game. I hope to be planning a trip to San Antonio.

Best answer!

I wish I could find the study from about 10 years ago. Someone studied the records of FBS teams that replaced a head football coach with the goal of winning more games within the next 2 years and sustaining that. The study showed over a ten or more year period that worked about 40% of the time if I remember correctly.

Our team cannot assume they will any of the remaining games. The league is very close and we can lose any of the remaining games. We should be able to win all of them, but that's not a given. Just because Rice lost to Charlotte does NOT mean they are terrible now. People who watched the UTSA game probably assumed stacking the line against the run would make us unable to win. We adjusted. Other teams can and will adjust, too. Our team has the ability to win all the remaining games including a rematch against UTSA if we play our best. I know a few think we were "blown out" by UTSA. The fact is UTSA had to go for it on 4th down and then make a clutch catch to come back in the final 15 seconds. That could easily have gone the other way.

I often read comments here and think the writers have never been hiring managers. -

At least in the case of Bedford, no it wasn’t. The guy Wren wanted wasn’t yet available and rather than just hiring anyone Wren chose to wait. -
How Seth Littrell’s tenure at UNT will play out

Wow! It's a live version of the Progressive Insurance "Life Jackets" commercial. Let go to the replay ... -
Jimbo really is playing 4D Chess. Unfortunately for him, the teams he plays are playing football!

Greatest Tight Ends in School History
VideoEagle replied to BillySee58's topic in Mean Green Football
Yes it was. Luis was a family friend. I was impressed he played football and still graduated after 5 years with an MBA in accounting. I saw the start of his recruitment to North Texas. After Marshal beat Judson for the State Championship in 1990, Dennis Parker the Marshal coach who was already announced as the new North Texas coach ran over to Luis and started talking up North Texas on the sidelines. I haven't talked to him in years and had no idea he was also a poker player. -
