I have been told several of our guys transferred through the portal for the allure of NIL money and did not receive the promised NIL money. But that is only what I was told.

I was also told that NIL was established to compensate athletes for the use of their NAME, IMAGE, and LIKENESS.

But somehow lots of players are getting big $$$'s without having any of these attributes being marketed.  I highly doubt the majority of OL's with 2k followers on social media are being featured in advertisements or have a demand in the 1000's for shirts with their name on it.

It reeks of the money laundering activities that are done through the sale of trivial paintings, etc. for huge $'s.
It's essentially become equivalent of the "jobs" that were given to athletes back in the 80s, e.g. making $100k as a car salesman during the summer break.  Of course, we all knew this was going to happen.

I’ve always thought this would be a funny exchange…

”And so, Beaver, what does your father do for a living ?”

”Well Miss Landers, my dad makes T-shirt cannons.  He has worked at the Taco Casa T-shirt cannon factory for 29 years.”

Judy: "You're dad keeps firing blanks.  How were you ever born?!?"

    Probably not.

The media and the cronies pulling those strings will start to normalize 6-6 being a decent year, and 8-4 or better as playoff consideration worthy. Mouth breathing fans of those franchises will fall in line with the new normal so they can pound their chest at their 7-5 record.

Exactly.  The NFL has conditioned the fans to be okay with 11-5ish records.   Back when I cared about the NFL, I think I recall the Cowboys getting into the playoffs with an 8-8 record and fans were happy.

  4. I'm not much of a hat guy so my opinion doesn't carry much weight but...

While I'm happy to see MG merch at any store, these seem pretty lame to me.

The white one looks like some kind of free hat you'd get back in 1977.

The middle one isn't too bad, but it doesn't really suggest UNT/Mean Green to me.

The left one: Hey, we found an MG patch, let's put it on a black hat.

NCCA could do a lot of things if they grew pair….they have let college athletics run wild. They clearly don’t want control but yet want all the money. Lazy, cowardice… idk. I guess new leadership is needed.

It's almost like they're members of Congress.

Oh man, I know we joke about SMU and their fans, but this picture really does speak volumes. I think more people would come to watch my 5 year old son play soccer. And this is a tournament!!!

I only casually glanced at the photo and hadn't read the end of Matt's post, so didn't even realize this was an actual in-game shot, just thought it was a pre-game picture of the arena.

I'm sure it was a mid-day/weekday game, but still that's a HORRIBLE showing, especially since they claim to be the team for a city of 1.3M people less than 30 minutes away.

One of the things I have hated for YEARS, and discussed with other fans, is that we have a “tradition” of:

    - Hyping up big games, and

    - Having a chance to really make a statement, and

    - Pulling in big crowds, and

    - Crapping the bed

Last night we had a great atmosphere, showed everyone a great game…and WON!

That is huge because that is how you turn people who are just there for the novelty into people who want to come back consistently.  The group sitting behind me commented several times “this is really fun” and “I didn’t know North Texas games were like this.”   THAT is how you build a lasting fanbase.

Yeah, too many times whenever we get to the cusp of breaking through, we've not only failed, but done it horribly.

UNT alum was doing play-by-play on ESPN2. You know he had to be excited. He got to do his exact college job on national TV.

"While enrolled in the Honors College, Emrich worked three years for North Texas Television and KNTU-FM, broadcasting Denton ISD football and UNT men's basketball games."

I think he's also the son of Roger Emrich who had a pretty good career as well.

How many stopped breathing at the end of game when $mut launched that 3-ball?   Shouldn't have been that close.  More free throw practice for everyone tomorrow!!

40 years of UNT fan history had me fully expecting it to go in.

I remember this guy back several years ago was a Penn State commit, and he was one of the best commits in their class.  Then he ran into some serious legal trouble so Penn State had to take away the offer.

Hopefully, he's been keeping his nose clean.

Yeah, got into trouble in 2017, which is a long time ago for someone his age.

  11. And a poorly written article.  After reading all of it, I don't know how many players they actually have.

Based on the statement "Under Big 12 rules, a school unable to field a team will forfeit the contest if no extraordinary circumstances exist", it sounds like they have less than 5 players, but I highly doubt that is the case.

  12. Here's the Fox Sports summary info regarding CM's career (info, highlights, and links to other articles regarding his play, etc.):

And video of one of his knee injuries which seems to have happened while he was spinning and twisting to avoid a tackle and got hit at a bad position.
