  1. Cerebus, I usually agree with you, but this is just plain wrong. As head coach he has a lot of responsibilities. One of them is to get butts in the seat to see the product he is putting on the field. I'm not going so far as to say he bad mouths the fans, but he doesn't necessarily sell the program like he should. I would forgive him this inconvenience if his team was completely dominant, but if he wants a geat game day atmosphere (big crowd) he has to go sell the program to the potential fans!
  2. ...And if Nate Newton were our coach then the name "Mean Green" would make a whole lot more sense. Motivation may be an issue. I can see it now in the locker room before game time: Player 1: Hey don't bogart that blunt. Player 2: Weren't we supposed to be somewhere? What's all that cheering outside? Player 1: Oh man, I think we were supposed to kick off or something. (chuckles and laughter) GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. TTech's drinking coach has a football problem. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!
  4. The University of Texas is finally remodeling their baseball stadium. It is way past due. Seriously, for a team that has recently won two national championship, Disch-Faulk field is a hole. They are doing this primarily with a $13 million donation from University Federal Credit Union. I know we are looking at private donors to help us build a new football stadium, but what resources do we have for corporate donations? I'm hoping RV has been beating the bushes where this is concerned. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I like the Kmart idea, however championships are won with defense. D-FENSE!!!!!!!! My vote goes with DeLoach. He's got connections, and he's proven he can recruit to our campus. The converstion begins and ends with DeLoach. Of course the question is moot. Dickey is here for at least a couple of more years. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. I think the comparison is valid. Any team can end up with no depth. The point is they have an easier road to recovery than we do; facilities, money, BCS, etc. Stoops is also under much more scrutiny. His fans will forgive him this year, but if he doesn't produce next year, you'll hear rumblings in Norman.
  7. I hate TxTech, but that game against Nebraska was crazy. Other than that the Atlanta Falcons falling just short in their comeback bid. Favorite: Texas vs OU. (I gotta go with mi familia.) GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!!!!
  8. I'm doing it now and didn't even realize it!
  9. Then you must die! Seriously, good game. In my day JT was the big powerhouse, but times have changed, huh? Do you know if NT recruits either school much?
  10. I'm with ya except i want an effective defense. I didn't see the 1st half of the Troy game, but what i saw in the 2nd half was, well undesirable. DD's game plan works if you have an efffective defense. We don't. The season seems almost lost to me now. I'll follow the team b/c that's how I roll, but now I'm just looking for better play, not just a win or loss. It seems like the fans raised the bar, Good. Keep it raised. GO MEAN GREEN !!!!!
  11. On FOX Net tonight Longview High is playing Tyler Lee. Being a grad of LHS I'm particularly interested. I don't know of any recruits from these teams, but longview does use the term "Mean Green D". The Lobos are ranked 2nd in State. GO MEAN GREEN GO LONGVIEW LOBOS
  12. "I just hate that Bob Barker!" - Happy Gilmore
  13. I hope for a good crowd. The Astros don't play until tomorrow. If the Rangers made the playoffs ... if the Rangers made the playoffs, now that's funny! We've been a ridin' in this Buick before. Losing kills your crowd. Our fan base is growing, and we'll see how diligent they are. Maybe DD likes to play in a nice quiet enviroment. Maybe we could have quiet day like back in junior high. GO MEAN GREEN sorry, GO MEAN GREEN
  14. I know this is like going to the tobacco company for advice on lung cancer, but here's a quote from utexas.edu 19. Why can’t the athletics budget be used to address the university’s budgetary needs? The entire budget for men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletics makes up only 4 percent of the university’s total operating budget. The UT Austin athletics budget is almost wholly self-sustaining, meaning it self-generates the monies it needs to fund its budget—which is not the case for most university athletic programs. The university funds only a very minor portion of the athletics budget, and that support will be reduced to zero over the next few years. If the entire athletics budget were used in one year to cover a recurring institutional deficit, these funds would not be available the following year because the athletics program would cease to exist.
  15. I'm really not the grammar police, but that sentence is horrible. It is either the lone highlight or it is one of a few highlights. It cannot be one of the lone highlights. C'mon Brett, you write for a living, and I almost flunked freshman English, but even I caught that. Of course this is the idiot board... GO MEAN GREEN!!!!
  16. As a runner, well... jogger, I'd be the first to pay for the honor of running a leg. Would I have to run down Harry Hines Blvd.?
  17. Rick, the title of your post is "Supporting the Longhorns and other $ schools". Are you implying that A&M is not a money school? I'm willing to bet you have some other emotional attachment to A&M. Whether it's a friend or relative who went there, maybe it's a military thing, I don't know, but you defend A&M a little on this board. And that's where a lot of us are coming from. I hold a wierd allegiance to Penn St and Joe Paterno, I always root for Army over Navy, and I grew up in burnt orange. But ask me who my team is and the answer is always, "Mean Green, baby!" Summed up best, "Don't be a playa hayta."
  18. Rick, I have to say I think that is the most incisive, well argued post I've ever read on a message board. Good job, sir. I only disagree a little. But it also reaffirms why I watch Boise, or UTEP or (insert sbc school here), because they have to try harder. I do love TX/OU, FLSt/Mia, etc. It's a big explosion! And nothing would fill my life with joy quite like seeing North Texas in the middle of one of those parties. And we're getting there, but don't hate those who have, after all, that's what we want. GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!! Tell me the truth. When A&M plays Texas, are you a closet Aggie?
  19. My math requirement was a 5 hour Trig/Pre-Calculus class. I dropped it once, and failed it once. On the third try I went to math lab every day, and really busted my butt to learn the stuff. As our instructor was passing out the final exam he held up a little drawing of a skull and crossbones, written underneath it it read, "You can run, but you can't hide from Math 1610". Nice and calming, huh? I struggled through the test, then got to the last page and didn't understand a damn thing on the page. I filled out what I could, then wrote a nasty little note about not learning the last page of material. Thinking I had flunked again, I walked out of our classroom situated on the 3rd floor of the language building, kicked a chair down the hall and yelled out , "F....................". They probably heard me outside. I made a 'C'. It's the happiest 'C' I ever got. The strange thing is, I really like math. I'm horrible at it, but I like it. On a side note, my required PolySci class was a taught by Dr. Bush. He said on the first day of class, "I'm going to teach this class with a republican bias. I encourage debate, so if you have a problem with any of this I suggest you find another prof." It was one of the toughest, yet fun classes I ever took. I got to go in and debate politics with my prof for 1 1/2 hours every T/Th. This class is the only place I ruined a curve on a test. It spurred me on to make polysci my minor, and I took a couple more of his advanced classes. I made a 'B' in that class, and went back to ask for an A. A cocky thing to do, I know, but I thought, "You never know unless you ask." He said no.
  20. Balance that with this: Today I was buying running shoes when the attendant, a local college athlete, said how nice the stadium was at North Texas. After i pulled my jaw up off the floor, I realized he meant the track. I can see that, I ran 5 my ass off in that old stadium. Seriously, my ass is gone. Tulsa's offense did hand it back to me a few days ago, though. But i digress... GO MEAN GREEN !!!
  21. Major: RTVF Subsequent job: Television Director. I'm doing exactly what I wanted to do when I went to NT. Directing news and sports. Minor: Political Science Result: I yell at my politicians a lot.
  22. I thought we only scored a field goal against OU and that was late in the game. I really don't recall the game unfolding the way you described it. Or am I thinking of another game. Perhaps I am. The game I'm thinking of Hall and Smith rotated out.
