  1. I was at that game. Definitely one of my favorite North Texas away games. I remember it was a cold evening in Logan and it was Utah State's homecoming. Pretty large crowd. After that T.J. Covington 110-yard fumble return you could hear in a pin drop in that stadium. The only noise came from me and the other 10 North Texas fans there. That was also back when you had to have a "sponsor" to buy alcohol in Utah bars. At that time there were about 2 bars in all of Logan and you had to be "sponsored" by a local citizen to drink. Luckily my buddy and I met one of the cameramen from the Utah State athletics department, and he obligingly showed the out of towners a good time. At the bar we had to fill out applications and the sponsor had to verify that he knew us. That was one of the strangest laws I had ever come across.
  2. That's correct. Even Seth Littrell called it a "free season" during his most recent media show.
  3. First, allow me to preface my comments by stating that I don't think North Texas should fire Seth Littrell this year. Personally, I don't think any college coaches should be fired this year because of the whole COVID thing. Too many unforeseen circumstances have played havoc with this year. With that being said, the performance of the team both last year and this year has been nothing short of horrendous. Let's delve a little deeper. According to the USA Today coaching database (https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/football/coach), Seth Littrell is the sixth highest paid head football coach among the Group of 5 schools (minus the private schools which are not required to report financial compensation). The schools that pay their head football coaches more are South Florida, Central Florida, Navy, Cincinnati, and Houston. Boise State's head football coach, Bryan Harsin, is tied with Seth Littrell at sixth place. Some folks may shrug this information off as just the price of doing business, and I would agree with them. However, what I can not tolerate is the laissez-faire attitude around some in this fanbase that don't see the performance on the field, cobbled together with the salary of the head coach, as a major problem. Somehow, we should all just be happy to go to game. Seth Littrell makes $1.85 million a year. That is far more than any other North Texas coach has ever received. And as noted, it is sixth highest among peer institutions. With that kind of salary, together with the investments that have been made in the athletic department over the past decade, expectations have been raised! North Texas is simply not getting any return on the investment. In fact, I would argue that North Texas is not only losing money, but losing prestige as well. Yeah, I know, I know. 'Welcome to North Texas.' 'It's been this way forever.' Blah, blah, blah, blah. Seth Littrell better turn this crap around.
  4. Had to dig in the archives for this one ... Scott Hall's first start was as a true freshman on September 16, 2000, at UNLV. Stat wise, it was a less-than-stellar performance. Hall was 9 of 17 for 78 yards with no TDs and no INTs. He rushed 8 times for 21 yards. Richard Bridges and Spencer Stack also saw action at quarterback. North Texas lost 38-0.
  5. Allow me a moment to be clear about why I say the season's over. I've been around since 1998, my freshman year at UNT. So I've been through plenty of shitty seasons at Fouts Field. Personally, I think anybody who has made it as long as I have should receive at least a participation trophy for putting up with so much crappy football over the years. But that's just the point. The Mean Green doesn't play in Fouts Field anymore. And they've been in Apogee Stadium for almost a decade. The athletic department has more resources than it has ever had in the history of the school. And yet, this team still looks like it belongs in the Southland Conference. You will never convince me that SMU is that much better than North Texas. That's ridiculous! I can understand North Texas getting their ass kicked by Texas or LSU (I've seen plenty of that). But being completely uncompetitive against the likes of SMU, or any G5 school for that matter, is not only a complete disgrace but IT SHOULD NOT BE TOLERATED!! The season is over because even if North Texas somehow miraculously pulled out a conference championship and a bowl victory it wouldn't change shit!!! You know why? Because people would still say the same shit they've always said. They can win in their little conference, but when it comes to playing real teams they suck. In order for this program to progress, they have to win out of conference games! Until that happens on a consistent basis it's still going to be the same 'ol shit. And I'm tired of investing time and money, and more importantly, my emotions into a team that does one thing consistently well: let's me down. The season's over. But I'll be back next year and the year after that because apparently I'm a masochist.
  6. At least for me it is .... I can't keep going through this year after year. If UNT can't even be competitive with SMU then there's nothing this team can do to impress me the rest of the season. I can't even bare to watch next week against Houston.
  7. This guy begets this guy ... I'm not worried ... North Texas 51 SMU 48
  8. Completely agree!! This game is NOT "just another game." And the players should feel pressure to win this game. You think the players at the "bigger" schools don't feel pressure to win against their rivals? This is what the players signed up for when they came to North Texas. If they don't want to feel pressure to win then in the words of former coach Dan Hawkins, "Go play intramurals brother."
  9. That's too bad. I appreciate a guy who speaks his mind and tells how it is. In response to the possible C-USA/Sun Belt merger nonsense from earlier this year: “Well, let me just be very frank and very direct — there is no conversation at Conference USA, nor is there any interest. And I think that’s – I don’t know how direct, I can be with that." Conference USA needs more like him.
  10. Ouch! But hey, at least UNT is considered the best of the worst (as someone pats me on the back) ...
  11. The season - as always in my opinion - comes down to one game: the September 19th meeting with the little cheating school that thinks they're on a hill even though the elevation of Denton is 92 feet higher (look it up). If North Texas beats SMU at home I could easily see this team going 7-4 or maybe even 8-3. If they lose, well, for me it doesn't matter what their record is because the season would be over. Go Mean Green!
  12. Hey Billy, thanks for the breakdown. Strictly judging on your criteria (guys receiving P5 offers), is this the best North Texas has ever had?
  13. Nebraska is done for the Fall ... https://omaha.com/sports/huskers/the-milk-has-been-spilled-bill-moos-big-ten-starting-to-plan-2021-football-season/article_0dff03ca-2597-51bc-b140-4042812ab87a.html
  14. It's strong enough to pull my kid in a wagon. I guess we could try a cannon. 🙂
  15. This project has been a few years in the making, and it's time to finally reveal the Mean Green machine. Hope y'all like it!!
  16. Scientists are just now beginning to see the effects of the prolonged quarantine ...
  17. The idea that a merger between C-USA and the Sun Belt is inevitable is ridiculous. Schools will cut, and cut some more, before this scenario ever happens. There are too many egos, too many lists, too many rankings, too much prestige (or lack thereof), and too many perceived or real slights that would ever allow this scenario to come about. Not saying the idea of a merger is right or wrong, but we're still a long way from this ever happening.
  18. I don't think you have to worry about international trademark infringement. Trademarks are only legally binding within the domestic United States. I believe there are some international court remedies, but I doubt the Australian Navy is very concerned with the University of North Texas' athletic department. That is an awesome find!! Some beautiful FA-18s!!
  19. Happy Birthday to the youngest child in the Family Ties clan! Which brings to mind a certain blog that was created around 2007 if I'm not mistaken ... Who was the masked man behind that blog? It gave me a few chuckles.
