  1. IMHO, there is absolutely zero reason Jamario Thomas should go into next year as the starter. Open competition, nothing less.
  2. Essentially everyone in the country outside of a handful on this board think the firing was ridiculous. I hear about every freaking day out here - it's nuts.
  3. But trust me on this one... you think WE have a hard time generating interest in the community? You think WE have a hard time with facilities??? FAU takes bastard stepchild to a new level in SoFla. It's a tough climb.
  4. Yeah - they were joking around, busting on George... George handled himself as well as possible.
  5. My gut instinct was to agree with you about the level of professionalism, SoMissFan, but then I thought about it -- it's a brave new world out there. You've got high profile figures like Mark Cuban and his ilk communicating almost exclusively through e-mails and his blogmaverick.com, you have stories breaking daily through various online blogs and message boards (see Rhett Bomar). Every media outlet worth its salt has moved resources into an online format and into the blogosphere -- maybe accuracy has suffered for it, but it's the way of the day. It's the most instant and direct method of contact with the masses... both media and general public. What's the difference between that and a generic press release?? Only the speed of distribution and the appearance of "direct" contact with the people. It's not like RV is online getting into pissing contests with some of us blowhards -- not hardly. But this is a great way to take the temperature of a small but passionate group of his fanbase, and a great PR tool. Things are changing -- and sometimes that forces conventional wisdom to be examined.
  6. Yes, he does. Has for a while. It's an amazing thing. As long as he knows that none of us really knows what we're blathering about.
  7. I'm not against Dodge at all -- It would be an unconventional, exciting hire.. very boom/bust i would think. But I agree that there is no evidence whatsoever of him having a sales-driven personality or being an energizing force to a fan base in the manner that many of you are speaking. Again, I'm not AGAINST Dodge at all, I don't really know a ton about him, short of watching 7 or 8 SLC games over the past few years... but allow me to play devil's advocate, for conversation's sake: This is a guy with no head coaching experience at the college level (any classification), who has not even been in the college ranks in ANY capacity for a decade. From what I have read and heard, his career record was around .500 and his teams never made any headlines or noise anywhere until he arrived at SLC -- a school with more inherent advantages than any other 5A program in the state - the only school in a large, prosperous, centrally located district, amazing facilities, big $$$, and a tradition of nothing but winning and winning BIG. It was a ready made situation. Nothing much changes in Southlake. Not to say what Carroll has done hasn't been amazing - it has been, surely. I think Dodge seems like a good guy and a good coach. I'm just saying that we shouldn't get ahead of ourselves on this guy being the savior as some are. The background seems tenuous at best for a D-1 head coach. Coordinator, sure... but they're very different jobs. That being said, none of us really has a clue how any of this will turn out, and how the coach selected will perform. I know I'll completely support whoever it is... I'm just reserving the right not to be seduced by the sexy names.
  8. agree on the running part -- it's all about personnel. Remember, the last few years, Tech actually had some decent running numbers with Taurean Henderson... his loss, IMHO, was huge this year.
  9. different results at different levels.... it buried NMSU in the first couple of years.. it's going to take some time to get the players in here to run it. Also, Tech beats A&M every year seemingly and has a win over Oklahoma last year and a near-miss vs. Texas this year.. with nowhere NEAR the athletes. I'd say it works pretty damn well. I consider it the modern day wishbone -- the "gimmicky" offense that's hard as hell to defend, REALLY unbalanced, requires specific preparation/personnel changes to defend, and most of all, like the bone, is considered a big "equalizer" for teams that don't necessarily have the pure physical talent to match up.
  10. It looked like such a non-issue to me... if this was any other coach, you wouldn't have heard a word about DURING, much less after the game.
  11. I think even more backhanded from Patterson was "you have to start SOMEWHERE..."
  12. Wow. This is really the way it's going pretty much everywhere beyond this board, isn't it?? Good stuff about Dodge, though. I don't know how smart a call it would be, and I can list 100 reasons it would be "the wrong thing to do", but I know the thought of it makes me irrationally excited.
  13. And I'd have taken SLC by 30+, just like I will against Euless "Little Samoa" Trinity. They're obscene good.
  14. hey, the kids want to win for DD. Good for them, I hope they do. Next year is full of optimism, but no need to challenge the guys out there now for trying to win one for Coach.
  15. Giving a million dollars to the university and attending a game/cheering for the team from a message board are apples and oranges.
  16. Okay... so if that's the case, like so many here have said, what will make this next coach a success IN conference? Everyone talks about OOC wins, but we will TEAR APART this new guy with anything less than an eventual 26-game 4-title win streak in the SBC, right? I just want to make sure we're consistent here.
  17. Nix's defense played more than well enough to beat Florida @ Gainesville today, but SC lost 17-16 after a blocked PAT and 2 blocked FGs...
  18. and, they still have to go TO WVU. This probably just knocked the Big East out of the title game. Florida, Texas, Auburn, you're on deck now.
  19. I'm with ya. Why would you be against our AD and down on the program if the hire is someone RV knows and respects?
  20. More proof of how it's all about "what have you done for me lately"... Greg Schiano at Rutgers is considered the hottest prospect out there, after 6 years and a record around 15 games under .500 (INCLUDING this year's 8-0)..... Flip it around, and there's not one element about him that's even on par with DD.
  21. I've seen SC on TV a couple times this year, and this guy definitely fits the "fiery" mold so many posters have been dying for. He's all over the place, running up and down the sidelines, etc. Now, take that for what it's worth -- not saying it's good or bad, just saying it is what it is. Secondly, Why do I have a feeling this may be the hire and the suspense may be over?
  22. George was also pbp for the Desperados for a season, does the PA at Texas Stadium, and is one of the best college pbp men around. Not to mention, he has public recognition (at least in this area) far greater than most. To say George could someday do the Cowboys broadcast, is, IMHO, not a stretch.
