  1. First we hire Dodge, which was a overreaction to the jerk Darrel Dickey. Now we hire McCarney, which is an overreaction to the "no head coach experience" Dodge hire. Like all of us our strengths can also be our weakness, Rick's strength (his emotion and wanting to please the supporters) is also his Achilles heal. I hope this works out, because Chico is for real. Please don't read this as a negative for Rick. He's a great man and I'm glad to have him as the AD.
  2. Not exactly just like Dodge. With Dodge, whenever we played good teams we got slaughtered. We never came close to hanging with Troy.
  3. Jeez, who cares. I swear some of you have such self-respect issues that you will only be happy if some "name" coach comes in here so you'll feel like a big shot when your d-bag friend at work hears about it. That was the reason so many liked Dodge to begin with. I want a coach who wins because it makes my supporting the team fun. I could care less if anyone one else has heard about him so I can feel good about myself at work. I don't need approval from d-bags.
  4. Like I said before, I don't want a big name, I just want us to win. And what Canales has done with this team even before he became he interim is amazing. He deserves the shot!
  5. Right, plus we tried that with Dodge. It brought more people but we suck. I don't care if anybody has ever heard of the coach as long as he wins.
  6. This is pretty easy. We have the most diverse and unpredictable offense since sometime in the 90's? And he has constantly adjusted to losing a starting quarterback. I don't care what anyone says, when you are down to a 4th QB and still in a game, you are a miracle worker. Canales deserves a shot if he wants it. That's one of the reason I like Leavitt, because I hope he will keep Canales. I expect an overreaction from the athletic director to his gamble by hiring someoe who has been a head coach before no matter what. So if that is the case, Leavitt and hopefully keeping Canales are a good bet. And to those saying we have to have a name in here to convince people to get on with it, who are you talking about? UNT alums, displaced UT fans, Nascar guy, Denton resident? For most all of them the only thing that would get them to games would be if we were in the Big 12. We have a base of fans now. We still get 15-20K at games and we haven't won in years. Two things are going to bring people, that new stadium, I've heard it from people who I never thought would go to games, and winning. We just need a coach that can win.
  7. Not true, there were a few others including me. I'd rather have let Dodge keep trying to figure it out, than have Bower. What I'd really like is a Harbaugh type hire from the last go around. Someone who just has it. But those are hard to find. I think there are blemishes on all of these retreads. I'd prefer Franchione, Leach or Leavitt if we are going to go that route. Leach would be successful for the same reason Bobby Knight was. Franchione as Tasty pointed out, has proven he can win. Leavitt built a team from nowhere. While impressive, I think it's easier to build from nothing that to overcome apathy. There are two ways to overcome apathy you need even more buzz (like Leach) or you need to turn it around fast and exceed expectations (like Harbaugh at Stanford). Hopefully there is a Harbaugh out there and RV and the Prez can recognize it.
  8. You and many other people. This would get the attention of Joe Fan. And if it could possibly happen quickly enough to have a positive effect on this years recruiting. This is a dream scenario.
  9. Something else interesting though, what if Canales wants the job? Canales would be a good resource for RV to find out what what Leavitts really all about but if he wants the job too, it would be difficult to go there. Hopefully he doesn't and can help recruit Leavitt on both sides.
  10. By play well do you mean win? Because there aren't many wins left on the schedule with the injuries we've had.
  11. Wouldn't it be? I might go back to McDonalds and have one if it was $5 just to see why.
  12. I'd be okay with him too, but I hope not for a bargain price. If it is, it will just tell people he is washed up. If we are going to get a big name like Leavitt, Fanchione, Mason - please pay him.
  13. Leavitt is the answer. However, I agree with what harry said on another thread. The university needs to step up and pay. If the university finally does this, then things at UNT will be forever changed. It's easy to take shots at our alumni for not giving, but really why should we. When the university has never shown that it cares why should we. I don't know about you but I work hard for my money and NT is my sole outlet for giving back in the form of financial support. But if the university doesn't care, it would be like me giving to someone who may just throw my money away. I know countless guys who follow what's going on but don't care because it doesn't seem like the university is serious. I think this is a bigger hurdle to clear than the conference we are in. The opportunity is there to get a do over with the new stadium, put some money behind a cauch and you make alums start thinking, hmm maybe they are serious and I should give it a second chance. Because even with the improvement in season tickets and attendance it's a slow grow. We need a kick start and this would be it. I actually hope that when we do hire Leavitt or whomever that the contract comes out and people go whoa. It would do more than the stadium to create a change in culture.
  14. Credit given for doing what you'd said you'd do if Dodge was let go, assuming you do it.
  15. Meh, I'm just enjoying North Texas Football talk on the radio. Accuracy not necessary.
  16. I would like to know which of the names in the poll would RV hire that isn't Bower and I'll vote for him. Apologies to Bower. I'm sure he's a good man, but don't think he's the right man.
  17. Thanks, Can I just use my vote to vote against Bower?
  18. I think Tasty already did that. But I will add to his comments that Southern Miss hasn't suffered from losing him, still having winning seasons and are 5-2 this year. And have you ever been to USM? It's in the middle of nowhere, but is a real nice campus. It seems as though Southern Miss just gets good kids no matter what. We have SMU and TCU in our own backyard to deal with. It's not that we wouldn't be thrilled with winning seasons here every year, it's that we don't think he'd do it here.
  19. If we do a retread - Leavitt would be the best choice. He had a team in the top 5 in the country. He built a program, and in the BCS. Otherwise someone like a Jim Harbaugh was last time. Been at the highest level, has his feet wet in the college game, and needs a chance. Or similarly like Tressel was before he went to Ohio State. Someone who has been at a lower levels but given the big boys problems consistently. Not sure there is anyone like that right now though.
  20. Totally agree. It's not like he was Captain Kangaroo at FAU who had actually won big at big programs. He took a middle of the road team and had them competitive most years. Not dominant. Might as well hire Dickey back, because he did that too.
  21. Not really, it was ESPN Dallas which is run by guys with access inside the doors at the athletic office, which means it may have legs.
