This is interesting even though I have offered no opinions. Please indicate precisely which points that Dr. Loury and Mr. McWhorter contend makes them "simps". What points of theirs do you dispute?

Let's put it nicely. If he gets an offer elsewhere it's for one of two reasons. Either the coaches from the other team have failed to watch game film, or he has brought an absolute shitload of Dr Pepper with him through the portal.

Newsflash for everyone. NONE of the players, coaches, or athletic department employees care about North Texas if a better option comes along. Please don't question their loyalty because they have none. Bank on that. And I am not saying anything bad about that. They are all going to do what they perceive as being best for their finances, their football careers, and their families, and there is nothing wrong with that. I too hate to lose players but I want every one of them to always do what they believe is best for their personal situation. But, and there's always a big but, I expect that while they are here that they are 100% committed to this program, this university, and respect this university's traditions. I still cant fathom how we let a player that absolutely avoided contact be a defensive captain, how we let a new coach dedicate his first year to playing pirate in honor of a Tech coach, and we let mercenary student athletes select what uniforms they'd like to wear because they'd prefer to disregard our traditions.

No. I only hear "North Texas". I think elements in the school tried to push UNT for a while but it never really caught on except in social media because we're all basically lazy and typing UNT is easier on our poor overworked thumbs. Properly, it's THE University of North Texas, much like people pronounce THE Ohio State University.

College athletics are evolving. Some sports will be purely pro, some entirely amateur, and most somewhere in between. My opinion, and please take this for what it's worth (nothing), is take advantage of our assets (large student enrollment and low enrollment costs) and let the free market determine player payroll. A simple fact is that we never will be able to outspend the 30 or so giants of college football. They have 100K seat stadiums with fans paying thousands just to be on the waiting lists, they have enormous media contracts, and they have booster networks which can donate $billions in a heartbeat. Their ability to spend easily exceeds that of the NFL. We can't compete against that, nor should we try. Nor should we want to be one of those little lapdog schools that strive to live parasitically off those giants (no offense Smoodles). Here's what I was suggesting as far as "utilizing the free market." Student fees, donations, and media revenue are still in the athletics budget for each sport. Non-spectator sports would offer scholarships, and nothing else. The revenue sports should equally divide every penny from ticket sales, parking revenue, away game payouts, and postseason events to each scholarship athlete in their individual sports once the costs of their scholarships have been covered. Essentially, 100% of the spoils from each sport are equally distributed to it's participants. It's a fair way to allocate money to the athletes that earn it and it promotes their teams to excel and sell tickets. And if any player feels he or she has a higher market value than what's being given, then please pursue that elsewhere with our blessings. Opinions?

I love how the actors/writers/production crew (all the same few people) describe the mad dash to create the storylines, sets, and costumes the next day immediately after the games. They all have day jobs. Even though it parodies the SEC schools the themes are familiar to fans of every school. Some days you eat the bear, some days the bear eats you, and some days you just get laughed at.

I've been reading these boards so often that I am slowly beginning to accept good as an adverb, alot as a real word, and that assure, ensure, and insure all mean the same thing. Then again, I was one that loved the sarcasm and satire even when I was the target. Please post more often.

Hodge is doing an outstanding job. Period. No question about it. He has fielded a team that has been very competitive with every team we've played this season despite several of those schools having resources that dwarf our own. This is incredible for a first year coach in what could only be described as a rebuilding year. It shows the impressive leadership that Rubin and Aaron have assumed and the dedication the newcomers have exhibited. The only, ONLY fault that I could find with this year's basketball team is that they allow poor leadership in our athletics department to select uniforms that negatively impact their performance. It's not just cosmetic, it has led to some humiliating defeats because the "tough and trashy look" inspires officiating calls to be made against our team. I'm not saying that the right thing to do, but it's obvious it happens. And one more thing, these deviant color uniforms do an extremely poor job of representing our school. There's absolutely no doubt we would have beaten Boise State last night if we had worn our Green uniforms. And we would have looked good doing it.

Happy 70th Birthday to Coach Matt Simon who was the Head Football Coach at North Texas for 4 seasons, 1994-1997. During his time here he guided the program through the transition from 1AA back to FBS football. He won one conference championship (1994) and beat Oregon State, Boise State, and Texas Tech in the following seasons all on an extremely small budget and no facilities newer than 1952. 1997 was also the season that North Texas hosted Texas A&M as a home game in Texas Stadium. A&M was undefeated and had outscored it's previous two opponents by a combined 125-6. I believe the 45,000 attendance that day may have been the largest attended home game in North Texas history. The Mean Green fought valiantly and the score was tied at 10 during halftime. North Texas held the Aggies on their first possession of the second half forcing a three and out punt. North Texas should have been in excellent position to start a midfield drive but our usually excellent punt returner Tubby Coleman muffed the punt. A&M scored quickly and suddenly all momentum was on their side as they scored 16 points late in the game to cruise to a 36-10 victory. This same 1997 A&M team subsequently beat Texas 27-16 and Oklahoma 51-7 before playing in the Big12 championship and the Cotton Bowl. Simon is also credited with coining the "Safeway Bowl" challenge with SMU by stating "I'd like to play because I think we could beat them, and my players feel the same way. If they'd like to play on a Safeway parking lot... just give us a date and time." SMU was avoiding scheduling North Texas after the Mean Green had beaten them in 1991. SMU continuously cited a 27-3-1 record in the series, but that record included SMU going 20-1-1 in the years predating WWII when SMU had athletic scholarships and North Texas didn't. Realistically those antiquated early games between a scholarship program and a non-scholarship program are totally irrelevant and meaningless to all sports fans other than SMU homers, and an indelible impression that was somehow made on sportswriter Brett Vito who continuously blurts the record uncontrollably. Matt Simon was terminated after the 1997 season and North Texas Athletic Director Craig Helwig filled the position with Darrell Dickey.

Yeah, against a very bad team missing it's two best players that only suited out 8. I feel very bad for our equipment staff if that is an example of success for us. Really bad crap happens far too often when we wear the garbage bags. This same stuff happened at UTEP in 2022 that kept us from making the NCAA Tourney. Learn Damnit, Learn! .
