The Ivy league is higher on that list than the MWC, what is the MWC doing right??

Total speculation but many of those schools are in places with less competition for sports dollars so might be getting good community support for NIL. Plus a high percentage of MWC teams make the tournament so plenty of opportunities for the big stage.

"The Grand Old Man of Football" Amos Alonzo Stagg (August 16, 1862 – March 17, 1965)

Stagg was a member of the first "All American Team" in 1889 when he played at Yale. He then coached from 1890 to 1946 at the University of Chicago and the University of the Pacific and won the 1905 and 1913 National Championships. He designed much of the game of football during his career.

Five-For-Five: NT Rallies For Win Over Legendary Coach - University of North Texas Athletics

Amos Alonzo Stagg with North Texas coach Odus Mitchell the night before the 1946 Optimist Bowl. The bowl game, a 14-13 loss to North Texas, was the final game of Stagg's legendary college football coaching career.

Even back then losing to North Texas was a career killer.

Memphis basketball has been in the media for a lot of things, not always good things....

Memphis will be fined $5,000 plus 0.25% of its average men's basketball budget — based on the average of the program's last three total budgets. Probation starts Tuesday and runs to Sept. 26, 2025.Sep 27, 2022

Very true. But still one of the top 30 programs in the country historically.

I hear you but, and no offense to the team but I mean we can and have been better.  We barely made the NIT this year for goodness sakes.  Everyone is acting so sad about losing the guys to the portal but honestly that same team back again probably doesn't get to the NCAA either.  That's just the honest truth if you ask me.  What do we have to lose?

That is one way to look at it. Another would be that given a full offseason together and the addition of a couple of key pieces, this year’s team could have built the foundation for something better. I wasn’t convinced this team was special or even a top conference team but I have a hard time imagining losing the entire top six on the roster is ever really a positive unless you are just awful. We were not great but far from awful.

Not necessarily, with the attrition we are facing they may have felt they needed more play ready now guys which I don't really disagree with.  This young man was going to need 2 maybe 3 years before he was ready to play championship level basketball in the AAC

I don’t like pulling a scholarship this late in the game for any reason other than character issues/criminal activity (if that is what happened). Yes we lost an entire top six but we also lost guys who literally never saw the court. I am sure there was room for a developing shooter. Give him Stone’s spot.

I don't see anybody in the AAC with brand recognition far above the rest, aside from Navy but they are a special case.

Before the NIL UNT was doing well in our conferences in terms of financial and facility support. Whether that's true with our collectives is an open question.

You don’t think Memphis basketball has a much better brand that the rest of the conference?

I'm sure they know how many seats are supposed to be installed, but with construction/renovation you just never know until it's done. Since they're re-seating the area, it makes sense to me to wait until they're installed and you can see and touch them to make sure. Could you imagine if they ran into something unexpected and a row is short a seat yet they already assigned seats for that row?

Pretty sure there is this thing called “a computer” that would allow them to make models to properly calculate the seats per row.

You know, SMU and it's alumni can be associated with two negative things:

    1. Football cheating

    2. Enron

#1 is like bribes in Mexico or pretending you didn't find that unmarked graveyard on your construction project - technically not allowed but widespread and expected.

#2 is just plain ol' greed. No big deal, nobody got hurt.

Yet somehow we're worse than Baylor hiding rape and literal murder, or Penn St. facilitating decades of child rape, or Kent State viciously attacking those national guard troops.  It's outrageous.

So are we all just going to ignore the five dead hookers?

5 years is the common length of a coaching contract.  We didn't (don't) have the $$ to fire early.  Wren even kept Benford for his 5th year after he ruined the basketball program.  Wren made another poor decision to extend Seth, that's all on him!

We do have the money to fire early because we have done it the last two coaches, but only after giving an extension first. So in reality, we bought out a more expensive contract.

The last 4 fired football coaches would like a word with you....

Oh please. All were fired after 5 years or more. And we give massive contract extensions for a winning season because we think they are miracle workers. That’s how sad our program is.
