There are some improvements. Rogers is a real bright spot. Offense as a whole looks like it has the potential to develop into a consistently dangerous unit. My issue is that I haven’t been particularly worried about the offensive side of the ball going back to the Morris hire. It’s the defense that will end up breaking this season for us. Simply put, we don’t have the personnel for this 3-3-5. Richards - our best defensive player - is almost completely neutralized in this alignment. When we’ve gone to 4 man, we look more competent. Not amazing, but better. Then we inexplicably switch back to 3 man in obvious running situations and get gashed. Even by FCS ACU. We’re simply being hard headed in philosophy on that side of the ball. To the team’s detriment. Either we adjust base alignment or expect AAC play to be a brutal slog for us.

Bump again. Can anyone on here explain to me like I’m a 5 year old what I’m supposed to like and be excited about with our 3 man front?

My issue is that let’s assume that we do make some improvement in the 3-3-5 this season. Even a 20% improvement from this hole gets us what exactly? We’re still staring at a winless season at that point. By the time we’d improve even somewhat you’re into the teeth of the schedule - Memphis, UTSA, SMU, Tulane, ect.

Need to track it down but believe he said something to the effect of this being an AAC Championship contender calibre roster. Not accepting the “rebuilding” narrative some are trying to push. This is unacceptable.

I absolutely hated this game. The creeping realization throughout that 0-12 is a realistic outcome was awful. So many parallels to those Dodge era games that I’m still traumatized by all these years later. Needless to say, I’m not optimistic.

Morris himself said this roster wasn’t broken. There are clearly talent/player fit issues on the defensive side of the ball to run this 3-3-5. Why wasn’t that addressed in the portal? How can Tx State load up in 1 season but we can’t? Did everyone see how big and physical that team is? They matched up nicely with UTSA’s roster - which always dwarfs us physically. Again - why can’t WE figure it out? The excuses are beyond tiresome.

I know it. And there was a contingent here telling people to relax. Cal was majorly improved ect. When you’ve watched this show for 25 years, you can spot the atrocious (Eric’s word) right off the bat. This defense is, in fact, atrocious. *Cue the “you’ve never played college football” force field/deflection that will inevitably come from someone on here trying to defend this performance*

Continuously having 5 guys in the box when FIU was in 12 personnel was mind boggling.

No one who’s masochist enough to be a long time UNT fan - much less those that take time to post on a fan forum are “fickle”. Insane take.

It’s so sad to have watched UTSA/Tx State right before this. Both those teams would drag us. Way more physical on both sides of the ball.

I absolutely hate this defense.

This is such a pathetic showing. We thrashed this team last year.

We’re not ready for the American. That league is going to chew us up.

3 man front is totally overmatched. Not enough defenders in the box. Unreal.
